The Republic of Kluz is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, ruled by Czar with an even hand, and renowned for its rum-swilling pirates, ubiquitous missile silos, and daily referendums. The hard-nosed, devout population of 27.966 billion Kluzians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked morass — juggles the competing demands of Defense, Education, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 77.5%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The very strong Kluzian economy, worth a remarkable 1,566 trillion Kluz Zloties a year, is driven almost entirely by government activity. The industrial sector is mostly made up of the Arms Manufacturing industry. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 56,011 Kluz Zloties, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Signs saying "No Poor People or Weirdoes" are common outside shops and cafés, cheese lovers have a case of the bleus, referenda are held for every conceivable government action, and innocent defendants often plead guilty for fear of receiving a much harsher sentence before jury. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Kluz's national animal is the Asiatic Lion, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.
