History of Chalna

Chalna is an inhabited planet. This is the homeworld for the Chalnoth, an anarchistic humanoid species.

While commanding the USS Stargazer in 2354, Captain Jean-Luc Picard visited Chalna. He recalled his visit there to Esoqq when they were imprisoned together twelve years later.

The Chalnoth are the aggressive species native to the planet Chalna. The Chalnoth do not believe in government so their society exists in a state of total anarchy, where only the strong survive.

Due to their physiology, the Chalnoth can only survive three or four days without food. Moreover, they have nutritional requirements different from Humans; they cannot eat the 'edible' discs provided by Esoqq's alien abductors but can subsist on a Humanoid.

Esoqq, meaning "fighter" in the Chalnoth language, is a male Chalnoth. Esoqq claimed to have many lethal enemies among the anarchist Chalnoth, but also claimed he had slain the ones that mattered.

In 2366, Esoqq was abducted and replaced with a replica by a hitherto unknown species along with Jean-Luc Picard and the Mizarian Kova Tholl in a covert experiment to study their different attitudes towards authority, which included the impostor Bolian Mitena Haro. Esoqq's attitude, typical of his people, was that authority was not needed. He was the first to cast suspicion that one of the others was an impostor, mostly focused on Tholl, as he saw him as a collaborator. He helped open the door and was punished alongside the others.

Esoqq was released from imprisonment along with his fellow abductees after Picard exposed the experiment.
