The Empire of Dromainia is a large, genial nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape, avant-garde cinema, and punitive income tax rates. The compassionate, cynical population of 50 million Dromainians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

Protesters are up in arms over new nuclear power stations, the nation's industries are scrambling to switch to biodegradable plastics, internet sites are legally unable to stop their users from posting pornography, and studio executives abandon tragic stories of star-crossed lovers because "it's been done". Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Dromainia's national animal is the lynx, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
