Recent events in Albanacula: December 2024:

  • Ongoing fallout over the vote of no confidence for Consul Frenchie Stas on 28 November. Parliament voted--nearly on party lines--128 to 62--to remove Consul Stas from the office after numerous failed attempts to do so. More problematically, the ruling Liberal Democrats have installed their leader, Cano Braxtu, to be interim Consul. This move has sparked a constitutional crisis since he was unelected by the people, and no formal process of selecting the Consul had taken place, as prescribed by the Constitution.
    Officially, Consuls are MPs that are democratically elected, then confirmed by Parliament, and receive ascent from the Kretu. This harkens back to the Appointment Crisis of 2023 where Stas had been reelected to be Consul, but Parliament refused to vote to confirm him until 5 days after the inauguration was scheduled.

  • Numerous protests have erupted across the nation as supporters of the ousted Consul demand his reinstatement, and Interim Consul Braxtu's resignation. Some are calling on the Kretu to dissolve Parliament and call for elections, an act not pursued since 1999.

The Imperial Veche (Vietie) has approved a bill to move the administrative capital from Novwgord to the more developed Hornislav. This is seen as a return to the historical capital 500 years after its replacement.

Located in the geographic center of the nation, Hornislav is considered the origin of the Selanese civilization, and has been the capital since the establishment of the Selanese Empire, until a new settlement further west was founded during the reign of Jaromir II, which would eventually become today's Novwgord. However, Hornislav has remained the center of culture, religion and learning. Only in the past century did it suffer another attack by "National Salvationist" (Narodenoje swpaseneje, NS) forces, leading to its decline. After the war, it has become rebuilt to a level surpassing Novwgord, and is today the economic center.

The decision was met with celebration among residents of Hornislav. Deputies from the ruling Nationalist (Narodenaja) party welcomed this decision, citing "the true heart of the nation" and "a city more worthy as capital". On the other hand, the opposition Liberal (Svobodenaja) party appears to be divided, where half of the deputies interviewed supported this bill, and the other half opposing it, citing various reasons.

According to the decision, the residence of the Imperial House shall remain in Novwgord until a new bill on it is approved. The Imperial House has refused to comment on this decision.

Attacks against the Selanese people.

A terror attack on a Selanese diaspora was reported by correspondents of Radio Hornislav, killing 4 and leaving 5 more injured.

The terrorists had on their possession symbols of the "National Salvation" (Narodenoje swpaseneje, NS) criminal group, responsible for the mass destruction of the Selanese Empire and a near genocide of the Selanese nation. While this group has been outlawed following the liberation of the entire nation, it is still reported that there are hideouts overseas, targeting Selanese diasporas.

This has not been the first time an incident of "Selanophobia", or anti-Selanese sentiment, was reported overseas. If you or someone you know is facing danger overseas, please contact the Selanese embassy as soon as possible.
