Sports in Westmoor

Sports in Westmoor

Professional Sports

The two most popular sports in Westmoor are rugby and football, both of which have professional leagues. There are regional leagues in all four states and there are two national football leagues, one men's league and one women's league, and one national rugby league. Football is played with the standard rules found on the international level while rugby has some variations that exist just within Westmoor. The national men's football league is used to seed the international football team, the Westmoor Men's Champion Team, which is funded by the Westmoorish federal government.

Westmoorish Men's Football League

The Westmoorish Men's Football League consists of four teams, one from each state. The official names of these teams are simply the name of their state (Bernow Men's Team or Noirhaven Men's Team). Each of these teams have colloquial nicknames, such as the Noirhaven Nosebleeds or the Lowland Tug Boats. Season play is organized as a Round Robin tournament where each team competes against each other twice. The two teams with the most wins go on to compete in the championship game known as the Black Creek Cup. When games end in a draw a rematch occurs. The Men's Football Season begins in January of every year and ends in July. The Black Creek Cup is traditionally played in August on Second Independence Day, though there have been years where the date had to be moved.

Westmoorish Women's Football League

The Westmoorish Women's Football League is structured almost identically to the Men's Football League, using the same ruleset and season schedule. However, the Women's Football League's championship game takes place in September on the anniversary of the crowning of King Albert.

Westmoor National Rugby League

The Westmoor National Rugby League plays Westmoorish Rugby, a regional variation on Rugby with rules similar to gridiron football.

The Federated States of Domanania

Geography of Domanania

Domanania is located in the North Mesder Sea. The only country with a land border to Domanania is Ioudaia. Domanania is mostly surrounded by water and has large territorial water claims. Geographically, Domanania's landmass is approximately 113,000 square kilometres. 2000 square kilometres of Domanania are occupied by water, most of which is in the north west, surrounding the large island.

Landmass and Borders

The Doman Island extends southward from the border, making up the territory of Ioudaia. The nation of Serpens land lies roughly 600km to the north. The main island sits in the Four Passages sub region of the North Mesder Sea. The coastline is indented across the entire length, but is more so to the north, with three areas making up small bay areas. Some 500 small islands can be found along the coast and around the three large islands to the north.

The line between Domanania and Ioudaia follows the longest (shared) river in Domanania, the Táwuntapí and goes along the Southern Gíraets Mountains. After the Doman civil war ended, the border between the two countries was finalized and splits the island between the two powers.

The total land area of the island, including the islands, is roughly 376,670 square kilometers. Some 30 percent (113,000 square kilometers) of this total, constitutes the territory of the Federated States of Domanania, with the other 70% going to Ioudaia.

Topography and drainage

The majority of the land is a series of uplands that originate from an super volcano that broke apart roughly 500 million years ago. These uplands culminate into the tallest peak, Mt. Dantaesá in the Gíraets mountains.

The northern parts of Domanania are relatively stable geologically, but has been known to experience harsh earthquakes from time to time. There is an active shield volcano on the north island, which erupts infrequently. The last documented eruption was in 1983, however the flow from this volcano is rather slow, and very few populated areas lie in the typical flow area.

Domanania has few large plains; its lowlands are the product of mountain erosion. Approximately 30 percent of the area of Domanania consists of lowlands, with the rest consisting of uplands. The great majority of the lowland area lies along the coasts, particularly the west coast, and along the major rivers. The most important lowlands are the Táwuntapí River plain around Táwunt and along the Doman-Ioudaian border, in the north west around Thutsash Hánsaesh, the central plain around Haerusran, and the Saekraesae plain in the north.

The Táwuntapí River is Domanania's longest river (almost 200 km), which is shares with Ioudaia as the river moves along the border. The longest undisputed river is the Thutsashapí River in the east (250km). The Gíraethapí River, which flows from the central plateau into lake Hérusran, is 120 km long and feeds the Utnusapí River is 100 km long. Other major rivers include the Davínapí, which flows from lake Thutsash into the Four Passages; the Shapí River, a tributary of lake Hérusran; and the Zhapí, the smallest tributary of the Táwuntapí River. The major rivers flow out towards the coast. They tend to be broad and shallow and to have wide seasonal variations in water flow.

Domanania is covered by large swaths of forests, particularly in the uplands. Estimates in 2018 say the country is 54% forested, a decreased from estimates from 2005. In 2005, the estimates had the nation at around 65%. Large swaths of forest are being cleared for suburban development, and green energy development for wind and solar farms. This puts in danger the unique Doman "Candle Light Tree", a type of pine tree that has a symbiotic, bio-luminescent fungus that grows inside of their cones. They are valued due to their strength and flexibility, and only occur every 1/1000 pine trees. Efforts have begun to preserve these trees, and prevent continued deforestation.

Climate

Part of the North Mesder climate region, Domanania has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. The movement of air masses from the north exerts a greater influence on Domanania's weather than does air movement from the south. Winters are usually long, cold, and dry, whereas summers are short, hot, and humid. Spring and autumn are pleasant but short in duration. Táwunt's mean temperature in January is −5 to −2.5°C; in July the mean temperature is about 22.5 to 25°C. The islands to the north experience colder climates on average.

The country generally has sufficient rainfall to sustain its agriculture. Rarely does less than 750 millimeters of rainfall in any given year; for the most part, rainfall is over 1,000 millimeters. Amounts of precipitation, however, can vary from year to year. Serious droughts occur about once every eight-ten years, especially in the north and western part of the country. About two-thirds of the annual precipitation occurs between June and September.

Domanania is less vulnerable to snow storms and blizzards than nations in the north of the region. Most of these storms are blocked by the island to the east, and Serpens Land in the north. However, some storms can make their ways down the Mesder, and most are ablated by the northern islands. Consistent rain storms come in from the south and east, often from air pressure being trapped in the four passages. These create areas of high pressure, which are followed by a strong low pressure area that brings in moisture and rain storms.

Areas have been well irrigated for centuries, making use of seasonal floods. Particularly in the south east, and west. Floods can cause severe damage when ancient structures can't hold much of the water back. Modern improvements have increased the efficiency of these public works.

Graphically the seasons can be represented this way:

Not to mention, for a period following our independence, Finland was pretty much a protectorate of Germany. Atleast very, very influenced by them following the German landings in the south and their attacks to places such as Helsinki under Goltz.
