Edit: Well even then, the chances of them even knowing what the Haka is would more imply that the dancers are performing some kind of curse on the audience. Little better than assuming terrorism.

There's a notable correlation between a lack of education and worldly knowledge and being a fundie Baptist in the Bible Belt. I'd be floored if anywhere close to a double digit percentage of them even heard of, much less knew what a Haka dance is.

Oh shut it. The notion that the south doesn't have good schools is complete bullsh*t. There are good schools and bad schools in every state. Some of the best primary and secondary school districts in the country are in the south, as are many of the country's top universities. If you don't have actual evidence to go on don't make insulting blanket statements about other countries. That just puts you in the 'ignorant' category.

I don't fly a confederate flag or anything like that. I barely have an accent. But I've spent most of my life in one part of the south or the other. Self-righteous hypocrites and foreigners that don't know what they're talking about, who insult the entire region and everyone in it, piss me off. Frankly the endless bashing and name calling is what has caused so many people to vote for crass populists like Trump.

Having also lived most of my life down South, the only thing I like is Texas, and I more often say it’s distinct from the remainder of the South.

Aside that, the deeper into the former Confederacy you go the worse things on average get.

The people who fly the Confederate flag (doesn’t matter if it’s the proper one or not) believe that the Confederate States of America should be restored, that the Civil War was a war of the North invading the South, and that the Confederacy was destined to lose the war yet they fought for their “State Rights” nonetheless.

A variety of reasons. You can probably find a few assholes that are still salty about the results of the war, there are several people that think it's a non-offensive symbol of the region, most have co-opted it as a symbol of modern politics, some (including most of the previous category) just use it trigger people they don't like, and for another handful, it's just part of the uniform.

There are a few rough patches, mostly in the old cotton regions. To the hypocrites I point out the "rough patches" that are Chicago, Detroit, LA, etc. There are no more assholes in the south than anywhere else in the country.
