The Floofy Foxes of The Solar System Scope

Comfed wrote:True, but that’s hardly specific to religion. There have been many groups across history that oppress people who disagree with their dogma - look at any autocratic country ever. That doesn’t make religion bad, it makes the governments that manipulate it bad.

Also, when you hear religion I think you jump straight to ultra-conservative christians, who don’t represent Christianity, much less religion, as a whole.

No I'm not. Everything I've said applies to the main branches of Christianity at least up until the past few centuries. It is fair to criticise religion seeing how much it has strained history. There are religions of every kind that have combat priests that bless the soldiers and tools of war. Major religions keep changing their doctrine to suit their needs, as the pope endorsed homosexuality while it being scorned by Catholicism and all other forms of Christianity for centuries, leading to many adherents to denounce him. Does this seem like a force of peace and unity to you?

So you are not going to give the Pope any merit in trying to fundamentally change the ideals of the Church that have stood there for more than two millennia?

I don't know what's happening here, but I'll give my 2 cents. If your atheist, that's fine. If your religious, that's also fine. Just don't harm anyone and your fine in my book.

Rabbitz wrote:The same could be said for science. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the physical description of the skulls of Blacks were purposefully skewed in order to make them look more like apes in an attempt to prove their inferiority through "scientific" means (i.e social Darwinism). In essence, trying to say that members of the church were the only ones who have abused known facts for their own agenda is a fallacy.

That is just applying former beliefs to science erroneously. The church invented intolerance, as pagans as they were called were much more open when it came to many things.

Rabbitz wrote:So you are not going to give the Pope any merit in trying to fundamentally change the ideals of the Church that have stood there for more than two millennia?

No. It is a dishonest move. The Bible doesn't change its contents according to popular opinion.

But hey, he and everyone else are free to believe whatever they want. Forcing your beliefs on others is the problem.

It’s fair to criticize that, but don’t apply that to modern religion. The US, for example, permitted and encouraged slavery. Does that mean that the modern US is the kind of country that would allow such a horrible thing to exist today? Just because it has bad things happening in its history doesn’t mean it’s automatically bad.

You are forgetting the part where pagans used christians as lion food because they refused to fight for Rome. Intolerance was not made by the church, only expanded upon by the minds of men.

No. It is a dishonest move. The Bible doesn't change its contents according to popular opinion.

1a. Intolerance has nothing to do with it. These people skewed facts for their own game knowing full well that it violated the doctrines of Christianity.
1b. Then if scientific books changed, they would be considered dishonest? Does changing the contents of something according to newfound ideals suddenly make it dishonest and unworthy to behold? Isn't the whole point of change to replace and add on new things as old practices and facts are discarded?

Quite unlikely. If you do win, which is highly unlikely, you could have a clear path to the Delegacy, which is highly unlikely.
