15th April 1912 (109 years ago): Titanic sinks

At 2:20 on 15 April 1912, the British ocean liner Titanic sinks into the North Atlantic Ocean about 600 kilometers south of Newfoundland, Canada. The massive ship, which carried 2,200 passengers and crew, had struck an iceberg two and half hours before.

On 10 April the RMS Titanic, one of the largest and most luxurious ocean liners ever built, departed Southampton, England, on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. The Titanic was designed by the Irish shipbuilder William Pirrie and built in Belfast, and was thought to be the world’s fastest ship. It spanned 269 meters from stern to bow, and its hull was divided into 16 compartments that were presumed to be watertight. Because four of these compartments could be flooded without causing a critical loss of buoyancy, the Titanic was considered unsinkable. While leaving port, the ship came within a couple of meters of the steamer New York but passed safely by, causing a general sigh of relief from the passengers massed on the Titanic‘s decks. On its first journey across the highly competitive Atlantic ferry route, the ship carried some 2,200 passengers and crew.

After stopping at Cherbourg, France, and Queenstown, Ireland, to pick up some final passengers, the massive vessel set out at full speed for New York City. However, just before midnight on 14 April, the RMS Titanic failed to divert its course from an iceberg and ruptured at least five of its hull compartments. These compartments filled with water and pulled down the bow of the ship. Because the Titanic‘s compartments were not capped at the top, water from the ruptured compartments filled each succeeding compartment, causing the bow to sink and the stern to be raised up to an almost vertical position above the water. Then the Titanic broke in half, and, at about 2:20 a.m. on 15 April, stern and bow sank to the ocean floor.

Because of a shortage of lifeboats and the lack of satisfactory emergency procedures, more than 1,500 people went down in the sinking ship or froze to death in the icy North Atlantic waters. Most of the 700 or so survivors were women and children. A number of notable American and British citizens died in the tragedy, including the noted British journalist William Thomas Stead and heirs to the Straus, Astor and Guggenheim fortunes.

One hour and 20 minutes after Titanic went down, the Cunard liner Carpathia arrived. The survivors in the lifeboats were brought aboard, and a handful of others were pulled out of the water. It was later discovered that the Leyland liner Californian had been less than 32 kilometers away at the time of the accident but had failed to hear the Titanic‘s distress signals because its radio operator was off duty.

Announcement of details of the tragedy led to outrage on both sides of the Atlantic. In the disaster’s aftermath, the first International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea was held in 1913. Rules were adopted requiring that every ship have lifeboat space for each person on board, and that lifeboat drills be held. An International Ice Patrol was established to monitor icebergs in the North Atlantic shipping lanes. It was also required that ships maintain a 24-hour radio watch.

On 1 September 1985, a joint U.S.-French expedition located the wreck of the Titanic lying on the ocean floor at a depth of about 3,800 meters. The ship was explored by manned and unmanned submersibles, which shed new light on the details of its sinking.

I have declared my candidacy for Minister of Culture! Read about it here:

Citizens of FNR,

Today, I am proud to announce that I am running for the position of FNR Minister of Culture. You may have a few questions for me, so I will answer them in a concise manner:

What experience do you have?
Not much, although I consider my coordination with Doctors Orvos in starting the new RP and discussions with him on worldbuilding to be valuable experience for regional coordination.

Why have you decided to run despite so little experience?
To be completely honest, I decided to run when I saw that Obets was running unopposed. I think that the Ministry of Culture is an extremely valuable part of the FNR, as the events coordinated by it are the main reason a person would want to join FNR over most other regions. I want to make sure that the person who heads this ministry earns their position because they were the best candidate, not just because they were the only one.

What are your plans for the Ministry and the region at large?
To begin with, I plan on improving the consistency and quality of regional polls. In addition, I plan on hosting a regional showdown similar to the Pokémon tournament. In addition, I will try to improve the accessibility of gaming events and watch parties to increase enjoyment and unity throughout the region.

What are your thoughts on the recent rise in political parties?
I believe that international political parties, if taken too seriously, could have a detrimental effect on the region as a whole. That is why I am running as an independent candidate.

Why do you think you are good at coordinating events when part of the reason the Dongerlandian Civil War chapter of the RP fell apart was due to your inactivity?
I have to admit, I don't have the best track record. But I have much easier access to a computer now than I did then, and more time due to finishing some projects I was working on for a long time. In conclusion, I'm not going to tell you to vote for me if you don't think I'm worthy. I only want you to vote for the best candidate.

Thank you and have a lovely day!

Longshoreman On Strike In Tyulenistan

On the eve of International Worker's day the Tyulenistani Labourer's Congress (TLC) (طيولينيستاني إشچيلير عورولتايي) - the largest labor union in Tyulenistan - has announced plans to stage a national strike for the nation's longshoreman.

The strike, which is due to start Monday, will be staged in many port cities of Tyulenistan including the nation's two largest port's Soimonov and Gunorta Patyshalygy. Ovadana Ishdagarkty, spokeswomen for the TLC, reported to TSN that she has sent contact to the Labor and Social Protection Ministry, but she also stated that Minister Almasev has yet to respond to the Union's request.

Mrs Ishdagarkty spoke to reporters saying, "The vast majority of Tyulenistan's dockworkers and longshoreman have not received a single wage increase since 2014. Despite this workers have been expected to work more days and longer hours. Too add to this issue, since the 2020 election's Tyulenistan has seen a rise in domestic and international trade. This means our workers are working more days, longer hours, and are expected to increase their workload for the same amount of money."

With nearly 86% of all trade arriving by ship, business leaders have begun to urge the government to intervene. Citing raising concerns over the strike's ability to disrupt supply chains, and further continue the struggle to fully recover from the economic downturn of 2008." The last time the nation's longshoreman went on strike was in 2012, and former President Muhammat Demirchi's support for the union helped pave the way for his stunning win in 2013.

The Tyulenistani Labourer's Congress is the largest labor union in Tyulenistan. In 2019 it was reported to have thousands of members. It is not clear if or when negotiations will take place, but the economic impact of this strike could be devastating for the nation.

Kemhebekov Accused Of Vote Buying

Deputy Yedil Kemhebekov of Podgornyy has been accused of buying votes in order to halt a 2018 administrative ethics committee investigation after emails from 2018 leaked revealing that a "transaction" had allegedly occurred.

Igor Yadakik, a spokesperson for Deputy Kemhebekov sent out a short statement nearly immediately after the news broke. Mr Yadakik responded saying, "This slander must not stand. In 2018 a democratic vote occurred to exonerate the Deputy. To question democracy and the democratic process is to question the foundation of Tyulenistan."

This would not be the first time Mr Kemhebekov was accused of ethics violations. In 1998 a Tyulenistani watchdog fined, than Attorney Kemhebekov, for pressuring a witness. After an investigation Kemhebekov was placed on an administrative leave by the State Council, but survived a disbarment by a unanimous vote.

Since the News broke early Friday morning no further investigations have been announced, but there is plenty of time. Sources closer to the State Council say there will be more news to come in the next few days.

Arryati Back In Office

The president is back at his desk and working hard a day after he was reported to have had a root canal. During his surgery the president had to be anesthetized, and thus was unable to complete his duties as president. As per the constitution ( طيولنيستانين كونستيتوسيياسي ), The Speaker of the People's Congress Nurislam Suhrab Inkaryochek acted as president while Arryati was under anesthesia for his dental procedure.

Speaking to reporters Thursday morning the president was quoted saying, "I am feeling much better today. The doctor has me on a few medication, which I take during non-fasting hours of course. I'm also glad to be back to work, but I knew we were in good hands under the supervision of Speaker Inkaryochek."

During his almost 12 hours as Acting President Mr Inkaryochek spent most of the afternoon and evening drafting legislation with a group of other law makers. Jokingly Inkaryochek told reporters, "The office is really nice, much nicer than mine!"

A spokeswomen for the President, Irina Iya Kuznetsov, confirmed that Arryati has an extremely busy schedule following a day of being out of office; including calls with foreign leaders and meetings with governors... among other things.

Tyulenics Ready For 2022?

On 14 October 2020 Tyulenics descended onto the polls to vote for their state's Deputies in the Upper House. The results, which was a continued blow to the opposition, saw the reelection of many of the same Deputies who had frequently supported the government's legislative, judicial, and diplomatic policies. However, when the citizens of Tyulenistan entered the voting booths last October they saw a rather small selection to chose from. Out of the 20 Deputies who were running for reelection only 9 of them had any opponents.

In a stark contrast, a report from the Election Commission show that as of today - 550 days away from election day - only two deputies stand unopposed. Magjan Olzhasov from Kone Paytagt and Vadik Mirov Lee from Podgornyy currently have no challengers. Both ran unopposed in 2020, but with still over a year until the election there is plenty of time for challenger to declare their candidacy.

See 2022 Upper House Election

This current surge in interest in government has political annalists, journalists, and the current government scratching their heads. TSN spoke to political strategist Aset Toreghozhina about his predictions for 2022.

"I see this as a sign of one of two things. First, under recent electoral reforms people are feeling more confident in the system and thusly want to get involved - which would be both good and bad for the government coalition. Or second, this could mean that people are unsatisfied with their current Deputies and are seeking radical change. Whatever the case is I think we are in for an interesting election season, and no matter how you look at it there are uncertainties when it comes to the support or popularity of the government coalition."

Approval ratings for the government coalition (TTH-TA-HP-YSH), which hover around 43% are far lower than that of the President and Prime Minister, who enjoy approval ratings of nearly 51% each.

Some incumbents have already taken notice, including freshman Deputy Arina Mikhay of Kaspi . Mrs Mikhay's surprise win in 2020 was the only interesting news to come out of the elections, and now she is ready to defend her seat. Liazzat Serik Rysbekova, a former lawyer and school teacher, and Milo Tsrealtov, the former Deputy who lost to Mrs Mikhay in 2020, have already hit the campaign trail. Deputy Mikhay's campaign has announced several events around the state and have begun "ramping up [their] donation and contribution efforts."

Atalar Resigns With Indignation

Minister of Emergency Situations and Public Health Alparslan Atalar has resigned following, what sources describe as, a fight with the Prime Minister, and other members of the Cabinet of Ministries. Atalar has been a controversial figure in the cabinet ever since he was appointed in 2013 by former President Demirchi - his appointment was to satisfy a supporting agreement between the government coalition and the Conservatives and Reformists (KwR). The status of the supporting agreement is currently unknow following the minister's resignation.

At this time the only information that TSN is able to confirm is that Alparslan Atalar has submitted his resignation, and that Deputy Minister Zhazira Agabekovich is serving as acting minister. We are unable to confirm the exact reasoning behind why Mr Atalar resigned out of nowhere. At this time no official comments have been made, and neither the President, Prime Minister, nor Party Leader of the Conservatives and Reformists, Yerbol Muhammat Zahar, were immediately available for comment.

Deputy Minister, Zhazira Agabekovich (TA), will serve as acting minister until President Arryati names a new appointee. The president will most likely ask Mrs Agabekovich to serve as permeant Minister of Emergency Situations and Public Health. Zhazira Agabekovich was born in Maktimkuliiy on 31 December 1978. From 2005 to 2011, she headed the Housing and Social Services Directorate. In this assignment, Agabekovich was one of the main contributors to the design and implementation of a popular local housing strategy. From 2011 to 2013, she was engaged as an expert in managing and coordinating social and human resources policies for national and international organizations. She has a long activation in the ranks of the New Dream Party and as a member of the Tyulenistani Parliament.

Representative Georgievna Retires Parliamentary Seat

People's Congress Representative Golova Lana Georgievna has announced that, active immediately, he will be stepping down as an MP. Georgievna announced his resignation via his social media account early Thursday morning writing, "I'm sorry I must announce my resignation from the People's Congress. I want to say thank you to all my supporters. It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my grandson, who passed away. I resign so that I can spend more time with my family."

See LinkPost

Mr Georgievna has represented Podgornyy's 2nd district since 1996, and from 1996 - 1998 he was a member of the Sunni Alliance. In 1998 the Sunni Alliance and the Party of Islam merged into the Islamic Political Movement. The former Representative has long been a political giant in both regional and national politics.

The special election, to fill the vacancy left by the resignation, will be on the 2nd Wednesday in June (09/06/2021). As of now no candidates have declared their candidacy. When pressed on it Iliyas Sergey Alexeyeva, party leader of the Islamic Political Movement, said that there are a few candidates who the party leadership has in mind.

President Arryati To Undergo Minor Dental Surgery

The Ministry of Information was able to confirm that on the 14th of April 2021 Tyulenistani President Albani Kurzahk Arryati is scheduled to temporarily hand over his executive duties to, as per the constitution, The Speaker of the People's Congress. Nurislam Suhrab Inkaryochek, representing North Kulaly 1st district, is the current Speaker and will serve as acting president while Arryati is under anesthesia for a dental procedure.

The President's office was able to confirm that Mr Arryati has a broken molar and that it has become infected and will now require a root canal. They continued to say that Mr Inkaryochek will only serve as acting president for "a few hours while Mr Arryati recovers." The president, on Monday morning, continued to say that, "While I dislike going to the dentist, I have a greater disdain for this tooth pain which I have been suffering with."

The Constitution of Tyulenistan ( طيولنيستانين كونستيتوسيياسي ) dictates that, "In the event that a president is incapable of committing his/her duties as President, the Speaker of the People's Congress becomes the acting president until a new president is elected, or when the president is able to complete their duties again. The acting president is not given the same powers as that of a sitting president for example, the acting president does not have the authority to address the nation or parliament, dismiss the legislative branch or appoint candidates for parliamentary approval of government or judicial posts. The acting president cannot call for a referendum, grant military ranks and state orders nor can they exercise their right of pardon.

Tyulenic Couple Found Guilty Of All Charges

On Wednesday March 17, 2021 authorities arrested Duya Evshalla Atymonii and his wife Tira Jelltev and charged the couple with four counts of child neglect, one count of child endangerment and three counts of child abuse.

A couple in the coastal city of Hazar, in the state of Kaspi, have been arrested following a months long investigation. An investigation which revealed that the couple had failed to ever register their child for school. Investigators had also found that the couple had been socially isolating the child for a large majority of their life. The child, who is now 8 years old, has both emotional and developmental delays.

"At this time we are unsure if these delays developed as a symptom of the social isolation and lack of education, or if the delays were the cause of it. There are known cases where parents will isolate their children because that particular child has an exceptionality. There is still a lot of stigma around mental health and about mental, physical and emotional disabilities. And this isn't only an issue that persists in Tyulenistan. Sadly we see instances like this all over the world." Said Dr. Artur Sultevovich, a partner at the Morskoy Institute of Health's Family Science Department. Dr Sultevovich was asked by investigators to, "assist in this sensitive and high stakes case."

The parents, Mr Duya Evshalla Atymonii and Mrs Tira Jelltev, were arrested Wednesday morning and charged with four counts of child neglect, one count of child endangerment and three counts of child abuse, and will be held without bail until their first court appearance - which according to our sources has not yet been scheduled.

The child will be placed under protective services. The Department of Family Affairs, an institution under the direction of the Ministry of Education and Youth Development will be working to find the child a new home, and will offer assistance to the child in order to help their development. A statement from the Department of Family Affairs revealed that the child, whose identity shall be protected under Tyulenistani law, shall stay at a specialized institution while their health and wellbeing is being more fully studied.

The fate of the young child is still unknown. It is unclear whether they will put up for adoption, or if a member of the family shall serve as caregiver. When pressed on the matter a spokesman for the DFA (Department of Family Affairs) responded by stating they will, "always keep the best interest of the child at the front of any decisions made."

The two appeared in court in Parahatchylyk Yeri early Monday morning, and following more than 6 hours of deliberation the couple was found guilty of all charges. During the trial the defense argued that the two were simply doing the best with what they were provided. A rather weak defense, plus when considering the magnitude of evidence found during the months of investigations, the defense was nearly doomed to fail from the start. Mr Atymonii was sentenced to 15 years in prison while his wife Mrs Jelltev was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In his sentencing the Judge issued a harsh remark when he eliminated the possibility of parole for the pair.

Just moments after the Judge sentenced Mr Atymonii and Mrs Jelltev, People's Congress Represented Rada Badem from the State of Kaspi announced that he would be introducing legislation which would increase the funding for the DFA (Department of Family Affairs) and also provide funding for educating people about mental health and disabilities. Both the Healthcare Minister, and the Prime Minister of Tyulenistan reacted positively to the news regarding Representative Badem's proposal via their private social medias'.

TSN reached out to the DFA in order to get an update on the child's condition. The DFA responded saying that the child is still in their custody and is under going medical treatment, and they will soon be on their way to recovery.

Onufri Refutes Calls To Resign

Five days after the Opposition sent an open letter to the Prime Minister calling on him to resign, a statement sent via the Information Ministry has unequivocally stated the Government's position regarding this matter. Information Minister Baltabek Ayanev spoke to reporters in a televised press event Wednesday afternoon:

"Prime Minister Onufri is fulfilling his constitutional duties by ensuring the checks and balances established in the constitution are maintained. Any and all calls for his resignation come from those who wish to weaken the democratic institutions in which Tyulenistan was born. These calls are not taken seriously by any in the leadership of the government. The opposition would confuse you with their propaganda, but the oversight of each individual ministry is the responsibility of the Prime Minister. Establishing a law that would enforce oversight of the Judiciary by the Legislature would be damning to our democracy."

Opposition Representative Erva Zinaida Mammedov from South Kulaly's 5th district spoke to TSN reporters via phone shortly after the press event.

"It is a shame that the government brands solutions to the corruption within the judiciary as 'propaganda'. Both domestic and international watchdogs report as corruption within the Justice Ministry as being among the highest in government. It is almost as if the government doesn't want more transparency and oversight. This is a dangerous path, and I urge voters to remember this for years to come."

The legislation, which now has cross coalition support, seems destine to reach the President's desk soon. The fate of the bill, which was created by the President and Prime Minister's coalition, is still unclear. While legislation doesn't have to go through the Upper House before going to the President's desk, the Upper House can veto legislation - which requires only a simple majority vote in the Upper house (11/21 Deputies). The President could also veto the legislation, although it is not clear how President Arryati would act when or if the legislation reaches his desk.

Opposition Threatens To Call For PM's Resignation

In an open letter to PM Onufri, Opposition Party Leader Evdokim Tretiakov threated to call a vote of no confidence if the Prime Minister continued to fight against the People's Congress's efforts to pass new and more strict anti-corruption legislation.

- TSN Previously reported that the Opposition was against this bill. Since then negations occurred and a more bipartisan approach emerged. -

Onufri argues that the bill is "a blatant violation of the checks and balances established in our constitution." The PM argues that investigations into the actions of judges is purely a matter handled by the ministry. The Prosecutor General's office offered a statement supporting the Prime Minister's position. Saying that Mr Yrysty and his staff, as well as those at the State Council, are "devoted to rooting out corruption," and that "if you do not believe my office is doing enough I [Yrysty] can show you that stack of case files I have currently open." The Prosecutor General's quotes came directly from his personal social media account.

From 05/03/2021 "PM At Odds With Parliament"

In the letter Mr Tretiakov continues by accusing the Prime Minister of wanting to cover up corruption, and simultaneously wanting to secure power in the executive. Writing, "It is a shame when those who are entrusted with the awesome responsibilities of Prime Minister decided to betray that very trust, while also protecting those who ought not be protected!"

A vote of no confidence would not be thought possible under regular circumstances, but since the PM has been directing his attacks at his own coalition it is statistically possible that the Prime Minister could be forced to resign.

The Opposition, who are still licking their wounds after their utter loss in the 2020 Presidential election, would most certainly benefit from instability within the governing coalition. This scenario looks more and more realistic every day as fractures within the coalition do seem to be forming.

Members of the New Dream, who endorsed Arryati over their own party's candidate, now feel betrayed for being locked out of the executive. "Demirchi may have sold out to the opposition, but at least he respected the terms of the coalition. Arryati should have appointed a member of the New Dream as PM, and that's that." Said Representative Olgorukov Miron from Soimonov's 32nd District. Representative Miron was one of eight New Dream MPs who encouraged their constituents to vote for Arryati in 2020.

The likelihood that a vote of no confidence would be successful is low. A total of 98 MPs would have to vote in favor. That would mean that all members of the opposition (58) plus those who support the opposition on the cross bench (4) would have to vote yea, plus an additional 36 Representatives. It is not impossible, but it is unlikely.

Meanwhile, members who support the legislation in the coalition are hopeful that the letter will put an end to the stalemate between the Government and the Coalition.

Arryati In Hot Water

Tyulenistani President Albani Kurzahk Arryati and his administration have been facing mounting criticism after a rough few weeks. Facing a budget crisis Arryati’s office announced that they would be reallocating funds in order to help address the problem.

When asked at a press event on Tuesday if Tyulenistan’s pension programs were at risk of reallocation Finance Minister Abssyli Formenkov answered, “At this time nothing appears to be off the table. At this time we are assessing all areas in which taxpayer money is spent.”

Many Tyulenics over the age of 65 rely solely on their pensions in order to make a living. 76 year old Altalya Ghezhovich, who lives in Maktimkuliiy Soimonov, spoke to us about her feelings following the press event.

I worry about what will happen to my pension. I am too old to work, and my pension hardly pays my bills as it is. I must rely on my children to help me pay for food sometimes. They cannot cut our pensions. We will suffer.”

TSN reached out to the Labor and Social Protection Ministry regarding cuts or changes to pension and or other welfare programs. They replied:

The power of allocation, and thus reallocation, is a power vested in all parts of the executive. The President confers with the Prime Minister, and each respected minister in order to discuss and negotiate budgets. Thus, any changes within the Labor and Social Protection Ministry must be approved by Minister Yermek Almasev. Mr Almasev has a long record of fighting for the rights of Tyulenics, and he plans to continue that as Minister.

Aside from making the public angry by threatening pensions, the Prime Minister has also continued to wage war on the People’s Congress as they continue to process an anti-corruption bill through committee. A bill that the PM argues is "a blatant violation of the checks and balances established in our constitution."

Arryati has been in office only 62 days, and yet he is already facing a mounting political crisis. It is yet to be seen how he will navigate these treacherous situations. As everything unfolds we will see how Arryati’s legacy is formed, and if this will be a characteristic of his administration.

Madina Confirmed As Justice Minister

Just after 12:00 (Local Time) the Pikir Hdyanler (Upper House) voted to confirm Camran Ayaulym Madina as Tyulenistan’s next Justice Minister. The final vote was 18 – 3, which was not a surprising outcome. Madina has been serving as acting minister since Temirzhan Jeanev resigned from his post early last month, after news of the former minister’s affair went public.

Born in 1954 a young Camran began practicing law in 1980 in an independent law practice. In 2001 Madina earned national attention when he was hired as a law clerk for the State Council, and he was assigned to assist investigators in the high profile case, Obinsky v The People of Tyulenistan. A case involving an oil CEO who was charged for man slaughter after ordering the assassination of one of his competitors.

In 2011 Madina was hired by a Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Justice, and was made a member of the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies. Then in 2018 he was a member of The New Right of Tyulenistan’s executive policymaking body, where he was given several national-level assignments. When Aryyati won the 2020 Presidential election he made Madina, a long time supporter of Aryyati, Deputy Justice Minister.

The Minister assumes the office at a controversial moment as Prime Minister Onufri wages a war against a new anti-corruption law that has been making its way through the People’s Congress.

Opposition MPs Propose Safeguards Designed To Protect The Republic's Healthcare Workers From Sexual Assault

People's Congress Representitives Olga Meyramova (AH), who represents Kone Paytagt's 10th district, and Aziz Asena (TD), who represents North Kulaly's 15th district, have proposed a bill that seeks to protect Healthcare workers from sexual assault and harrassment by creating and funding investigatory boards inside of each and every Tyulenistani hospital. These independent boards would investigate cases of sexual harassment brought by healthcare workers. Mrs Meyramova says that these boards, if created, will be responsible for handling cases made against other healthcare workers, and those brought against patients.

Estimates from the Ministry of Healthcare say that nearly 70.1% of all healthcare workers in Tyulenistan are women - the healthcare sector is the largest women employer inside of the country - and over the years women nurses and doctors have had very little substantive protections when it comes to crimes related to harassment..."especially when it comes to allegations made against patients." Said Dr Maria Zladinkev, partner at Tyuleniy Health.

Reports, collected from several non partisan sources, published last year revealed that 43.1% of Tyulenic nurses say that they had been sexually harassed by a patient. Of those responding, 90% were female nurses, 10% male.

Mrs Meyramova and Mr Asena, who are both members of the Opposition and are the authors of the bill, say that the country' s safeguards which protect women are "draconian at best.” “We must ensure that all cases of harassment are taken seriously. Furthermore, we must do everything we can so that nurses, doctors and all healthcare workers can do their jobs to the best of their abilities...without fear of being assaulted at their places of work." Said Meyramova as she announced the proposal on the floor of the People's Congress Monday morning. Which was also International Women's Day.

Opponents to the bill have already begun voicing their opposition. Some, like Represntitive Mustafar Vlad Zmagail from Soimonov’s 2nd district, worry about what this bill would do to the rights of the accused. Others point to the fact that sexual harassment is complex and has occupational hazards in nursing.

The proposal must now make its way through Committee no. 3 before facing a full vote - providing it survives its way through the committee vote.

Tyulenic Vertical Farming Company Boast Success

Roofed-Agriculture (وچيكلي وبا حوژاليگي), a state-owned Linkvertical farming company based in Parahatchylyk Yeri, released a celebratory statement via the chairman's personal social media. The post comes on the eve of Roofed-Agriculture's 12 year anniversary. Gorj Vladimir Kimdirev, who has served as chairman since Feb 2010, has accredited the company's success to domestic interest and current market conditions.

Vertical farming is the practice of growing crops in vertically stacked layers indoors in a climate-controlled environment - free of most pesticides. The main advantage of vertical farming is the increased crop yield that comes with a need for less land. The company has a 8 hectare facility in Parahatchylyk Yeri, most of which is located underground, which first opened on the 6th of March, 2009. The implementation of vertical farming had been an extremally controversial topic in the early years. Toropov Ivan Onufri's, current prime minister and president at the time, administration fully supported the initiative. Dorofeyev Saveily, who served as Onufri's prime minister from 2006-2009, was subsequently forced to resign as PM by the People's Congress.

The opposition against Saveily actually began within the government coalition, and nearly made the government collapse in 2010. Sasha Nazer Albekdev, a member of the New Dream lead the opposition which would force Saveily to resign. Albekdev would subsequently lose his reelection bid in 2012, and Mr Saveily was replaced by Lyapin Seryogin.

Most who opposed vertical farming pointed at the cost as their main reason. The cost of building the facilities, maintaining them, plus the reoccurring cost of hiring employees made many question the potential profitability of vertical farming, especially since Tyulenistan entered into an economic recession in 2008.

For Roofed-Agriculture's first six years they relied solely on government funding. Only since 2015, after the first chairman was fired and replaced in 2010, has the company been ably to turn a substantial profit. The company, which under the supervision of the Ministry Emergency situations and Public Health, has a contract that lasts until January of 2022. At which, the government will have to decide or not to renew the contract. In the last few months the Ministry, lead by Alparslan Atalar (KwR) has been extreamly critical of the company, and has been threatening budget cuts. If the company can continue its success there might be a chance to save it.

PM At Odds With Parliament

Tyulenistani Prime Minister Toropov Ivan Onufri is currently leading an opposition against Representatives in the People's Congress as they prepare to pass new, more strict anti-corruption measures.

This bill, proposed by Ibrahim Ivan Isaev (TA), seeks to establish a judicial oversight committee that would be responsible for monitoring alleged corruption in the Justice Ministry. Over the years rumors of corruption within the justice system, and especially with the nation's judges have become endemic. "This bill was designed to create accountability and oversight. It has the endorsement of many constitutional lawyers, and we are currently working on securing the votes." Said Representative Isaev, speaking to TSN reporters during a recess inside the Parliament Building in Morskoy.

It is unclear how many representatives would currently vote for this measure. Several members of the Islamic Political Movement have already publicly objected to the bill. Vladi Bashtkar Zheken, from Podgornyy told TSN he opposes the bill because of how "harsh and invasive the procedures are." Citing sections of the bill that could make certain financial statements available to representatives at anytime, and without a warrant.

The opposition is criticizing the bill calling it an "unnecessary power grab by the governing coalition." "There are ways to fight corruption without degrading the institutions and the limits which are set upon them by the constitution; limits which secure our democracy," Aliya Salikhanhuly (AH) said in her speech during Monday's debate.

The fate of this bill, which was proposed by the New Right of Tyulenistan, is unclear. The fact that this bill is being led by the New Right could also suggest that the party is listening to its constituents, after Demirchi's administration was riddled with corruption, and trying to do something about the corruption problem within Tyulenistan.

Tyulenistani Ambassador To France Dismissed

Early Monday morning TSN got word that President Arryati has asked the Tyulenistani Ambassador to France , Lukpanovich Latif, for his resignation after reports show that Mr Latif owes nearly € 3.500 (1.510.831ولغام) in parking citations. Most of the parking tickets and violations are due to the city of Paris, while others are due to cities more know for their tourism rather than their diplomatic importance.

French authorities have a history of reporting Mr Latif's unsavory behavior to the Tyulenistani Government, but it is unknown what pushed the president to dismiss the ambassador rather abruptly Monday morning.

Mr Latif, who has been the French Ambassador since 2018, has been using his Diplomatic Immunity in order to refuse paying the absurd number of tickets he has accumulated in his less than three year tenure. Violations range anywhere from double parking, speeding, to driving under the influence. In 2019 Latif was arrested in Nice for driving under the influence. The Ambassador refused to take a breathalyzer at the scene, citing diplomatic immunity. Mr Latif would later settle with a consideration.

Sources close to the president say that, in his phone call with the ambassador, Arryati was, "unequivocal and discerning" regarding the options left for the ambassador. The source continued to say that the president, "wanted Latif to resign over the phone."

Muhammat Kuanysh Madiyarov, someone who has experience in the intelligence community, is likely to replace Lukpanovich Latif after he formally resigns. Although Madiyarov is a freshmen diplomat, he has earned respect in the national spotlight during his time in the defense ministry.

Akkthim Released From Jail

Vladimir Akkthim has been released on parole after serving 8 months out of his 36 month jail sentence. Mr Akkthim, who was sentenced on the 16th of June 2020, was found guilty of three counts of defamation and one count of tax fraud.

Both Mr Akkthim, and his legal council, have claimed that his incarceration was politically motivated. A claim that is widely believed among the international community, and human rights groups have been pressuring the Tyulenistani government since early December 2019 when Mr Akkthim was first publicly charged.

Akkthim is a vocal member of the opposition and served as a Representative in the People’s Congress from 2000 – 2008 and 2012 – 2016 representing Kaspi’s 19th District. In 2012 Akkthim changed his party affiliation from Tyulenistani Democrat to the Revolutionary Federation, making him the first Revolutionary Federation candidate to represent the state of Kaspi – the party was founded in 2012. Today, Fedolt Pizma Bardakchi (YP) is representing that district.

“I was being punished for being too loud and for exposing too much corruption. The governing coalition of Tyulenistan doesn’t jail you for being a part of the opposition…as long as you don’t cause too many issues for those in charge.” Mr Akkthim told reporters in his first meeting with press since he was jailed last June. “We will never allow our voices to be silenced by those afraid to hear what we have to say.”

Mr Akkthim will be barred from public office for the remainder of the time he was supposed to serve in jail. That means he will be on house arrest for another 840 days. During that time period his movements, communications, and financial transactions (among other things) will be monitored as per the early release agreement.

Morskoy University Hires First Female Dean

Morskoy University's School of Health has selected Hudaya Myratgeldy to replace a vacancy left after the dismissal of the former dean. Peyhan Ryzuan Patmavovich, the former dean was removed following a conversation regarding university staff and other members of administration was leaked to the media early last year. Khurshed Firuz Sabin served as interim dean until Myratgeldy was selected from a group of 15 other applicants.

Myratgeldy, who was the only women candidate, has dedicated her life to improving hospital and medical practices in Tyulenistani Hospitals and clinics. Dean Myratgeldy grew up in Nintizarasankoly, in the state of Kone Paytagt. Born in 1964, Hudaya was raised by her mother and grandfather. Her mother was a night nurse at a local hospital, and it was because of her that Myratgeldy decided to pursue a career in the medical field.

In 2002 Myratgeldy graduated with a doctorate in Health Administration from LinkHeidelberg University in Germany, after receiving a degree in nursing (1986), and health education (1988). Tyulenic Tycoon Jailed For 11 Years On Embezzlement Charges

A former banker from Parahatchylyk Yeri has been sentenced to 11 years in prison on embezzlement charges. A court in Morskoy on February 19 found Ertae Hassani guilty of stealing $334 million from The Central Bank of the Republic of Tyulenistan (طيولينيستان ريسپوبليكاسينين ميركيزي بانكي) and also ruled that all his property must be confiscated.

Hassani co-chaired the investment group Amhkdula Group in Morskoy, and was an honorary president of Tsetski Bank in Soimonov. He had previously served in senior positions at Tyulenistani banks throughout the 2000s. Mr Hassani's international business dealings through Amhkdula Group are now also under investigation.

Police in the Tyulenistani capital, Morskoy, arrested Hassani in May 2018 at the Prosecutor General's request and placed the fugitive oligarch under house arrest.

In 2009, Hassani spent nine months in pretrial detention on suspicion of embezzlement, but was released after a court dropped those charges. Hassani was found guilty, however, on lesser charges of misusing bank funds and violating accounting regulations. The court ordered his release on grounds that his nine months in pretrial detention was sufficient punishment.

The former banking executive's lawyers have called his sentence, "harsh... and demonstrative of a mistrial."

Famed Tyulenic Cellist Dead At 87

The famed Tyulenic Cellist Tikhon Grisha Zhaykovich, who played in the LinkTchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, has passed away. According to Marianna Polakoff, Mr Zhaykovich's daughter, the 87-year-old controversial figure passed away after suffering a fall from his bed. "My father will forever be missed, he will always be remembered for his music and sadly his politics." Mrs Marianna Polakoff spoke to TSN reporters from her apartment in LinkZelenograd via a phone call early Friday morning.

According to Mrs Polakoff, she had visited her father's apartment in LinkSaint Petersburg on Wednesday. "He was in good spirits," she added. On Thursday Mr Zhaykovich's nurse found him and called for an ambulance which rushed him to hospital, but the musician had already passed.

In 1934 Tikhon Grisha Zhaykovich was born in the city of Nowy. Tyulenistan was still in the LinkRussian Socialist Republic in the Soviet Union as a part of the LinkKirghiz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, and young Tikhon's father worked for the Communist government. When Tikhon was three his family was relocated to LinkOrenburg, and then again when he was seven they relocated to Moscow when his father took a job with LinkGeneral Directorate for the Protection of State Secrets in the Press under the Council of Ministers of the USSR (Glavlit).

Mr Tikhon began playing the cello at a young age, "My mother always wanted her children to play music. I'm sure my mother had me playing the flute before I could speak." He had said once in a TV interview. But then at the age of 17 Zhaykovich got deeply involved in politics, and aligned himself closely with LinkStalinist theory. He would continue to be a controversial political figure - he once spoke prolifically defending Stalin's, often violent, means of achieving Linkcollectivization.

Despite his views, Zhaykovich rose to stardom while attending the LinkMoscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he excelled in all his classes and stunned audiences during performances. The LinkMoscow Symphony Orchestra in 1965 invited Zhaykovich to join them, and he gladly accepted. He was subsequently kicked out in 1968 for threatening the composer. After that, he began composing and performing his music and found great fame. In 1988 he was invited to return to the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. He accepted the offer but threatened to leave in 1993 when the Russian Ministry of Culture remained the Orchestra. Zhaykovich played in only one performance in the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra before leaving in protest. In his resignation, Mr Zhaykovich wrote, "Damn you for selling out to the capitalistic pigs."

Mr Zhaykovich is survived by his Daughter and his three grandchildren. The family has asked us not to report on them, or disclose the location where the famed cellist will be laid to rest.

Opinions on Kissassia's Campaign

1. I am actually glad I have a competitor, it makes me try harder. Thanks!

2. I feel the opposite about political parties (although take this with a grain of salt coming from a Political party president). I feel they bring us together and get us more involved with international affairs, and eventually bring us together as a region. No democracy is a democracy without opposing sides.

3. You do bring good points and point out good values for the Minister of Culture position. In fact, you give me a new idea for something I would bring if I am MoC.

Good to see we've got another candidate for Minister of Culture! I have one question for you, springboarding off of Obets's comments above: Why do you believe political parties are "detrimental" to the region? Would you mind elaborating on this point of view? Thanks in advance!

I'm worried, given the course of human history, that at some point, the political structure will become a sectarian mess a la U.S., which will lead to a corrupt view of the regional leadership and, ultimately, many people leaving the region. However, as long as the political parties are closer to clubs than ways to gain power within FNR, I'm fine with their existence.
