I would say about two thousand men each should be the perfect number, enough to conduct even large scale simulations, but still easy to check. And for the time we would be ready as soon as you are.
By the way, so your daughter has a role in the army, Director? I wasn't informed of that."

The Director cheerfully replied, "I would be worried if you were. She graduated a year or so ago from the academy and became a cadet in the 1st Unit. As I was informed some time ago, she has swiftly risen up for the ranks for her service during the War of Agitation. I specifically informed Commissar Volkov that I would remove her from command if she tried to promote my daughter out of pandering to me. Imagine my surprise when she told me that she had no idea Cathy was even related to me, thought Riddleshaw was a common name. I can not blame her for that level of ignorance, she was an ex-raider who got placed into the Commissariat rather quickly. Needs must back in the day and all that."

With the expanding army of the Union requiring more and more production to commit to keep in good standing. Two of the smaller arsenals were ordered to begin expansion within New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Along with the construction of two new hospitals within the city’s of New Orleans and Little Rock to help provide a more expanded healthcare service for Union civilians and revenue from passing travelers. And with the recent understanding of fusion power generation. Three of the Nuclear power plants within Union territory would be brought back online to fill the ever expanding demands. Notably the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station , The River Bend Station, and Waterford 3 Plant.

Revolutionary middleland

Connect The Dots (Part of the Handcuff Campaign)
Expansion 3 of 5

Lop Bop grinned from ear to ear at the news of the biggest entrapment in the history of Revolutionary Middleland. With some time, the top of Texas would be starved and absorbed. It was an invasion before an invasion even took place. That was one of the many regions guaranteed to someday cave in to the desires of Middle. Revolutionary Middleland had its sights set on complete control of the state. The far-seeing, the revolutionary armies and political leaders had labored even to their deaths in order for this moment to shine through. The marvelous homeland- the wonderful state they had created- it was coming to fruition. The Handcuff Campaign was not finished. Miraculously, there would be a southern theater involved in this campaign as well. The precious rewards would soon be reaped by those who had spilt legions of blood to establish themselves a new regional order.

Rather than filling in the blanks on the northern front, a decisive push southward would be universally agreed upon as the most correct path for Revolutionary Middleland to take. The capture of San Antonio would be of utmost importance, and the shortest possible route would be taken to eventually get there. It was the hopes of the Middle organizational high command that such a press southbound would cut off the Republic of Texas from a proper expansion westward. That would begin the restraint of all of Middle's regional foes- organized or not. It would be the downfall of the Texan identity.

To take on this important task of establishing the path to the city of San Antonio, the organizational armed forces committee of Revolutionary Middleland would take a different strategy than selective and precise mobilized warfare. Reverting back to traditional tactics, an army of four thousand soldiers would be organized, supported by various technicals and ad-hoc killdozer type armored personell carriers and infantry fighting vehicles. Of course, cavalry would make up the remnants of what was left between the infantry and motorized soldiers. It was the hope of the tacticians that the numerical advantage would not only take over the roadway itself, but carry them over to San Antonio.

In that same hasty and time conservative manner, those four thousand soldiers would hurry over the border through a narrow stretch of land, the unique flag of Revolutionary Middleland fluttering ominously in the dusk air. The first violent cracks of gunshots were heard at the fortified town of Brownwood. Scrap walls came tumbling down to well-placed RPG fire and scattered militiamen collapsed en masse to the rattling of the fifty cals. The plumes of fire rose over the town as its residents were shoved northward by the collection platoons. It would only be a short march southeast to San Saba where the killdozer bus APC's toppled the sandbags and crushed civilians and paramilitary alike. The rattling of cannon fire drew on and on until midnight, where the city's residents surrendered after a horrifying bombardment campaign.

When the residents of Llano saw the incoming maelstrom, they dropped their weapons and surrendered. The battered farming tribes of the Loyal Valley were obliterated and cast into a hastily dug mass grave. The tide of Middle's advance stopped only at the city of Fredericksburg, the germanic farming community reduced to only a handful of dozens of people after the war- all of whom voluntarily surrendered on the condition that the residents of Fredericksburg would not be relocated.

A good number of technical documents would be recovered from the region, and a medium factory would be found in a state of disarray. This repair would not be easy, but it would be done regardless.

Middle would gain 2,100 people.

Ardmore, OK would be increased to Level 3 Scrap Output.
Eufaula, OK would be increased to Level 2 Scrap Output.

Since the military situation of the NCS, with the Pests severely weakened and almost surrounded, was getting better by the day, this was a perfect moment to send diplomatic envoys to his old and new neighbors.
To the Directorate, which ties had already been established, the President himself decided to go, alongside the chosen diplomat to establish the Confederate embassy, as was decided in the last meeting with the Directorate's representative, slowly signaling their enter inside the other's territory, alongside his Whitwshirts guards.
To his newly acquired neighbor to the North-East, the VTU, Secretary Monroe was requested to go, because he proven his diplomatic capabilities when he first met the Directorate, he would cross the Appalachian mountains towards Virginia.
Lastly, to the South a new faction was individuated, so Secretary Pickett was sent there to establish first contact, hoping it would be a friendly one. Their envoy would march south from Montgomery.

Revolutionary middleland

Communication Between Comrades (Part of the Handcuff Campaign)
Expansion 4 of 5

Applause would fill the state of the liberated zone of Revolutionary Middleland. Cheer Middle, because the strategic gateway was seized from the Texans twofold in two places! First, North Texas was immobilized! Second, the pathway to San Antonio was laid and the central state would be immobilized! The tactical prowess of the secretive Lop Bop would be freely flowing, yet nobody would be aware of it outside the bunker. The civilians were only cheerful because of the alleged success on the Texan front and the release of the tasty holiday rations rather than the simple fare of the typical Middleite's diet. However, the discussion on the Texas matter would not be complete without the collapse of the regional city of San Antonio.

Two thousand soldiers would stay in the occupied Llano zone just in case the Texans got too rowdy with their neighbors. Two thousand more would be mobilized for another press southwards. A few days were allowed for the supply lines to properly catch up. Once the soldiers of Revolutionary Middleland were armed and replenished, the green light from the authorities was given for them to invade. San Antonio, the key of Central Texas. If the results of the interrogations were true, this would drive a wedge between prominent Texan factions and cut off communication between comrades.

The march of the spirited Middle soldiers brought them to their first battle- for the city of Kerrville. One of the more populated settlements, several rifle companies of Revolutionary Middleland would face off against the organized and determined Kerrland City Army, bloodying the banks of the Guadelupe River. With a high resolve, it would take Revolutionary Middleland several days to capture the town, civilians being forced north whenever possible. However, due to the Guadelupe River splitting the city in half, many of the citizens fled and were now going to squeal and blow the element of surprise. That would mean a cohesive and alert foe, and Middle would need to painstakingly liberate every single city from then on.

Boerne would be a bloodbath for both sides, as a highly mobile and skilled rifle organization picked off Middle's soldiers, and Middle's soldiers let the machineguns rip into the militiamen. Rooting out these noxious guerrillas would occupy valuable resources. Once Boerne would fall, Middle would try its hand in the invasion of Bulverde just short of San Antonio. While the citizens weren't properly equipped, they were defiant, and managed to stall for enough time to where the metropolitan area would rally itself in preparation and unity. What followed were several failed invasion attempts, each paving the way in with blood. The mortars and cannons were out of range, so Middle would have to employ a unique solution.

From Dallas, 7 Po-2 biplanes would take off for the first time, the freshly trained pilots piloting the red craft through the skies, soaring southbound towards their targets. Their targets would be the frontlines of Leon Valley]- one of many municipal communities which held Middle away from San Antonio proper. Armed with light bombs and a .50 cal machinegun on the back, these 'sewing machines' would be the first to breach the lines. With no flak in the wasteland, the defenders of San Antonio looked absolutely astonished at the sight of their foes bringing in planes. They could not fire back but with small arms rounds. Initiating a divebomb, the city's strongest links would be blown out from under them- including munitions depots. The planes would pull back up, letting the gunner wreak havoc on the infantry. This practice would continue deeper and deeper, even striking some parts of neighboring Windcrest before the lack of bombs forced them to pull back to the Dallas AFB.

Even despite the limited capability of the Po-2, it was enough to get the infantry to a point where they would launch a decisive break-through, slaughtering the frontal communities and finally launching a conventional shelling of San Antonio. They would hold out for a few days until the Po-2's would return, contributing directly to the additional bombing, suffering only light damage which could be repaired later. The shelling would increase in intensity the closer Middle got to the bombed out core of the city. Eventually, the defenders would just give in, motivated by the lack of supplies.

Virtually no technical documents would be recovered, and a small factory with moderate damage would be devoted to repair. Middle would gain about 1,800 residents even.

Sent To Sweep (Part of the Handcuff Campaign)
Expansion 5 of 5

The last thing Lop Bop needed was a hole in his frontline. There had been a long-ignored patch of land which stood in between him and control of the northern part of the state. With the strategic center in the hands of Revolutionary Middleland, the ideological cadres that ran the state and its military affairs decided that it would now be wise to loop back north and get rid of that bubble of hot air that was the Texan identity. The fighting had been the fiercest it had ever been, and it seemed that this strong culture was to blame. Well, Middle would crush that culture, no matter how many blows it would take trying to do so. Lop Bop would personally see to it that Middle would take these remnants- and sweep them away. Sent to sweep, lost to the irradiated winds of time.

This lone bubble was caught between Middle and the Texas Republic. It was encircled, but not encircled long enough to be starved out. However, the feeling of hopelessness among the majority rural population would prevail. Middle would take advantage of that despair and use it for its own gain. Revolutionary Middleland must prevail. It will always prevail, no matter the cost. It is inevitable, simple yet brutal. To accomplish this gain, the ideologues attempted to imitate what they did in Dimmitt, a small number of highly motorized units would be responsible for the capture of the control centers, and auxiliaries would deal with the rest. It was a relatively insignificant part of land anyways. Lop Bop would consult that heavily marked up map of the plains and look on with a smug expression of ironic satisfaction- it was almost a meta knowledge that the future for the free was grim.

Supported by 300 infantry, 600 mobile units were arranged from technical to ad hoc APC, two thirds in a vehicle and one third on a horse. They would be supported by the same seven planes from the Dallas AFB, repaired and replenished since the last battle they had engaged in. This would have to be done in under a day, to preserve the fast-acting nature of the campaign that had already dragged on long enough due to the stubbornness of the San Antonio Region fighters.

The first battle would be southbound from the Oklahoma border, on the twin cities of Nocona and Nocona Hills. Combined infantry and cavalry would quickly overwhelm the frontline city and establish a base pad to continue their fast-acting blitz. In Forestburg and Sunset, wheels would tear through the autumnal plains with the rattling of machineguns softening defenses and the infantry swooping in to consolidate power in the hamlets. Early on, there would be no mercy as backlines of cavalry escorted civilians north into revolutionary occupied territories for them to begin their re-education in the lifestyle that Middle declared as right.

The Po-2 planes would begin pre-emptive bombing of the city of Decatur, but without any proper recon, they merely bombed out things which looked valuable from above, and albeit while defenses were softened by the blasts and subsequent machinegun fire from the pullup, it would be in a similar state to what it was before. Because of the mechanization, there was no time to begin a mortar shelling. The brunt of Middle's attacking force would converge on this point, maintaining cohesion and discipline. The defenders tried their best to shoot through the windshields to disable drivers, but because not a single technical was without a rear gunner, it would be in vain. The armored vehicles lead the charge, and cavalry kept pressure on the flanks.

By nightfall, the city belonged to Middle.

After recovering a fair amount of blueprints and a heavily damaged medium factory for repair, Middle would have a net gain of 1900 people even.

Expansion 45/Operation Baptism

While Commissar Whitmore and the Third Unit bargained with the Council of the League of Athens and Commissar Xiphos and his Second Unit plunged into a nightmare of their own making in the ruins of Atlanta, Commissar Giermun Gableson and the Fourth Unit marched westerly into the last northern province of Georgia, Dalton. Vanguard elements soon ascertained that the province was not controlled by either local settlements or raider gangs, but a bizarre and twisted cult that purportedly practiced human sacrifice and regularly demanded tribute in the form of supplies and young women, preferably virgins. Astonished and horrified, the Commissar ordered the Emissariat attachment to quickly move to secure the aid of the local settlements so that the cult could be eradicated within as short a period of time as possible. Unsurprisingly, the local settlements all but begged the Emissaries to aid them in their plight against the depraved marauders and the Commissar sought to fulfill the promises made to the settlers. Before this promise could be fulfilled, however, the Protectors had to find the cultists, a difficult task, and worse was the fact that the settlers themselves had no idea as the cultists came to them rather than trusting them to deliver their tribute. Inhibiting this search however was the discovery of cult sleeper agents within the local settlements and their relaying to their fellows the arrival of the Protectors and their bargain with the settlements. The benefit of this was that there was no longer any need to look for the cultists, since they were launching a full-on assault across the entire province on every single settlement.

Dalton, Georgia

It should be noted that much of the cult's prowess in subduing the local settlements and pressing them into subservience was due to their intimidating actions and ruthless reprisals against those that acted against them. Against local settlers whose biggest problem up until then was the occasional raider gang, the lack of resistance was to be expected and it had bred into the cultists a sense of undeserved superiority. Against the trained and experienced soldiers of the Fourth Unit, whose prior experience with raiders possessing above-average cruelty had rendered them resistant to such fear tactics, the cultists found themselves facing lions where before they had bullied kittens. To their credit, the cultists were no slouches in fighting, being part of a society based around human sacrifice and other such bloody conduct, yet they were for the most part warriors and not soldiers. Their organization was haphazard at best, their equipment was not standardized and for the most part cobbled together garbage and their mentality did not allow for otherwise logical and reasonable battlefield conduct. Their solution to being repulsed from a settlement was to try again, with more screaming and howling, and to a man possessed little in the way of actual tactics beyond frontal charges.

Continuous attacks had bled the cultists white and enough of their number were captured for Securitate assets to acquire information from them regarding the location of bases, armories and chem labs. With their prior strength diminished, Commissar Gableson ordered a general attack on the cult's installations and for the Fourth Unit to take absolutely no prisoners save for interrogation. Cultist leaders and lieutenants, identifiable thanks to prisoner info, were targeted in mass by Protector marksmen, vanguard elements swept through swathes of the cult's territory to burn and raze as much of their identified infrastructure as possible and center Detachments were employed to besiege and level the most fortified of their strongholds. It became general habit to find and locate the cult's altars and shrines for demolition and bit by bit, the cult began to fracture and dissipate like the nightmare they were. The last of their bases, where the remainder of their leadership had fled to, was personally stormed by Commissar Gableson wherein he dueled the cult's highest remaining leader and his personal guard handled the rest of the cult's warriors. Hours later, the cultists were left hanging from the walls of their final refuge and Commissar Gableson proclaimed the pacification of the province.

Militaristic Pursuits

Harrison knew that the Trade Union's military would have to improve if they were expected to protect the new territory that was now under the Trade Union's flag, so Harrison decided to reorganize the army to better increase its efficiency when answering the call of duty. The Council were quick to agree with Harrison's proposal, not that he needed their acceptances but it would help in the long run, and General Shepherd was immediately called in from Williamsburg to discuss the army's reformation personally considering he was unofficially in charge of the Trade Union's militaristic branch.

It took the old General a few days to make it back to Ashton, but when he did he was met with cheers from the townsfolk who believed he was the reason the Trade Union is what it is now, some attributing him for the expansion efforts more than Harrison. Shepherd didn't particularly enjoy all the attention but he can certainly appreciate it, at least his tireless work is finally being appreciated by people other than those Council stiffs. He was immediately escorted inside and brought to the Council Meeting Hall, all of the Councilmen sitting on the sides as Harrison sits at the head with his hands folded in front of him. After a moment Shepherd quietly took his seat next to Harrison, waiting for the esteemed President to speak.

"Ladies and gentlemen-" The President began, taking a moment to scan the various faces of the Council members, "It has come to my attention that our current military system isn't going to work as needed, we have expanded too fast and sadly our army was left behind. That's why I am reforming our military-" He pauses as the room is filled with worried mutterings by the Councilmen, "Shepherd shall retain his rank of General but I shall be introducing new ranks, not unlike old world America, to better reduce the strain that Shepherd must be feeling-" Shepherd let out a grunt, so that must be one of the reasons he's doing this. He must feel threatened by Shepherd, considering the people are considering him responsible for annexing the Trade Union's new territories. Before Shepherd could continue his thought Harrison continued, "I will be enacting these reformations immediately… If any have objections then speak up now-" He asked, eyeing Shepherd for a moment before looking forward once again. At the end of the meeting no one spoke up, which meant it was finally time to move forward...

In a new edict issued by the Infrastructural Bureau of the Secretariat of the United Prefectural Directorate on behalf of the Director and enacted by the Presidium, it has ordered that the following Prefectures are to begin immediate construction of medium-class factories for the purpose of establishing civilian industry and providing employment and consumer goods to the general populace. While these factories may be retooled for military use if the need becomes apparent, it is the hope of the Monetariat that this does not come to pass and that these factories will greatly improve the overall quality of life in the UPD and provide excess goods for trade with the various foreign powers that have been met.
