Yes "things I need to survive" even though rattlesnakes can do fine in the wild without the long hand of the gove- I mean herpetologists intervening in their personal lives.

It's like a bedroom; it's a safe place to sleep and eat and rest and play, not a prison where you're forced to stay all day every day. Some really dedicated keepers actually reptile-proof their houses and let the critters roam whenever (though the more common practice is to lift the reptile out at times when you're around to make sure it doesn't eat a rubber ball and die).
