I feel like theres a communication error here. I’m not saying we should stop reading book, it just feels like leftist political action starts and ends at theory. Like, if we agree the revolution is not possible in the US, and you think democracy will get us nowhere, then what are we supposed to do to fix the problems we are all well aware of?

a revolution being impossible in the U.S as of now doesn't mean that smaller-scale agitative action (i.e unionizing, protesting, mutual aid) is is also impossible. it also doesn't mean that you need to go on some 20 message long tirade against someone for Suggesting Reading A Book.

also, even if leftist political action DID start and end at theory (which it does not)? that would still be better than your suggestion of just Watching Netflix and never pointing new leftists toward helpful leftist-created resources ever.

some people want to do crime and rehabilitating them means you took away their free will to do crime?

because the nationstates creator is a centrist w/ no understanding of politics. use the issue results tool if you want to control your stats

Guide to Issue Results

How to Improve your National Statistics, Earn Badges, and improve the Bloc!

How to Use the Issue Guide!

Greetings Comrades, and congratulations on taking the first steps to developing not only your nation, but the Bloc as a whole!

This guide will show you the basics of the issue results guide and explain how to look for statistics to improve!

Step One: Load the following link in a new tab in your browser. LinkIssue Results. You should arrive at a page that looks like this:

Step Two: Go to your nation's Issues Page. You will see all the issues currently available to your nation. Each issue will have a name, as well as a number. We'll use this number in the next step.

Step Three: Choose an issue you'd like to see the results and statistics for. In this example, we're gonna pick the first issue available, "Bait and Switch." Now find the issue number for lookup. It can be found to the right of an issue name and looks like "Vol 32, No. 591." For our purposes, only the number is important.

Step Four: Jump back over to the tab with the Issues Results site, and scroll down the list until you find the name and number that matches the issue you've chosen. Click that link. You can also use Ctrl (or Cmd) + F to search for the issue name and number to make it easier on the eyes, and cut down on scrolling!

Step Five: You should now see a page with three columns. The first column contains each of the possible responses to the issue. The second column details the range of statistics change from choosing that response. This is presented as a range of possible value changes, alongside an average. The third column contains how many times that response has changed a particular stat. Higher response numbers indicate generally more accurate average statistics changes.

Step Six: Choose a statistic you'd like to improve. This can either be your own preference, or a target set by the Regional Development Program. In this example, we're aiming to improve our nations Agriculture stat. Scroll down the list of statistics changes for the first response to find the effects on agriculture. In this example, the result from the first option is seen in the picture below!

Step Seven: Repeat Step Six for each possible response for the issue. In this example, we can see that the other option is likely to reduce the Agriculture score.

Step Eight: Choose the issue response that is likely to give the effect you want, and take a look at the results! In this example, it's the first response! However when examining the statistics changes, we can see our Agriculture stat was actually unaffected, but our Trout Fishing Industry grew by 35%!

Some Notes: As we've just seen, the guide isn't 100% accurate and only presents a general view of how different responses will change your nation. As a result, the effects of any one result may not be what you were hoping for. Don't lose hope! Any losses can be recovered, and the guide presents a useful tool for comrades to start shaping their nations!
Additionally, NationStates Issues have an overall normalising effect on statistics, generally bringing them closer to average. This means nations with high scores in a particular statistic are likely to suffer greater declines in score values than rises, and vice-versa for nations with low scores. Keep this in mind when choosing your options!

That's the guide! Thanks so much for reading, and hopefully this was of some help to you! Keep your eyes out for news related to Regional Development, and if you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch!

New Astri wrote:yes. this is bad. people should not be forced to conform to gender roles if it makes them unhappy, no matter what they're "supposed" to do.

"gender non-conforming men are tools of capitalism" has got to be the most bizarre excuse i've ever heard for bigotry toward gnc people

just letting you know that "transsexual/transsexualize" are very outdated/offensive terms in english--what you mean is "transgender," someone who identifies as a different gender than the one they were assigned at birth. a transgender woman and a feminine man aren't comparable because one is a woman and one is a man, even if they're both feminine.

there's no such thing as "overly feminine" if it makes someone happy. and the assumption that large portions of feminine men care about if straight women find them objectionable or not is hilarious.

literally nothing good i sure can tell you that. today on the rmb:
- feminine men are a tool of capitalism
- reading theory is anti-modernist (the revolution should be brought about via squid game instead)
- iota gets a headache

Oh, theory.

I honestly cant read theory because it sends me spiraling. My short-ass attention span and general stupidity make me not understand theory, not understanding theory makes me sad because, yknow, what worth am i to anything if i cant grasp basic notions?, Sadness worsens my everything and pushes me to give up. Rinse and repeat.

mm not having the capacity to read or understand certain material doesn't make someone stupid or worthless. all that matters is doing as much for leftism as you are presently possible of--and if that never includes reading theory, then it never includes theory. part of healthy leftist rhetoric is accepting and accommodating people who aren't capable of certain forms of activism, and that includes accepting and accommodating yrself

Opposition to democracy? No, opposition to liberal democracy. The original Bolshevik council structure is ideal. Successive layers of democratic councils where each representive is instantly recallable and therefore accountable to their constituents. Only one party so that the legislators can exclusively focus on the needs of the people instead of maintaining seats or their own party infrastructure. Centralism to insure that the goverment remains united and resistant to corruption. This is left wing ideology, actual democracy instead of special interests.

I'm sure you're underestimating yourself. I don't know you personally, but from your posts you seem intelligent and introspective. I'm sorry to hear things haven't been great for you recently. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. You're not alone in this, there's a lot of people that care about you.

The single party thing is confusing. Factions will still form within to single party, and what happens to people that don't want to be part of the one party?

Sheeeeeeeesh I missed a real hoot in this board. Also, New Astri, when did someone argue about feminine men being anti-revolutionary? Just curious. Just to give some takes that should be known to western leftists:

Consumer Media - Maybe a starting place for class consciousness in certain ways, but it isn't going to teach practical lessons about fighting against capitalism and oppression

Liberal Elections - Similar; the game is rigged, so you aren't going to win socialism no matter how many times you play. It could be a start of things for many though, such as the overturning of an elected socialist making visible the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. Maybe a candidacy stirs up support for issues that socialists advocate for or within an ideological ballpark of socialism. Or perhaps a candidate can only do so much, but maybe that amount is providing critical support to organized labor, or avoiding the imperialist oppression of the global periphery, or rhetoric that promotes proletarian internationalism or validates socialist economics. You should participate in liberal elections in the imperial core, but you should have no illusions that by doing so you're getting anywhere close to socialism without the buildup of dual power and eventually revolution.

In summary, read any one or combination of Lenin, Luxemburg, Engels, and Marx (The State and Revolution, Social Reform or Revolution, Socialism: Utopian and Scientific, and Critique of the Gotha Programme are my recommendations).

EDIT: But also always remember that even a social democracy is dependent upon unequal exchange and the capitalist exploitation of the third world :)

If you don't want to be part of the party some socialist countries (Like China) permit independents to run as well. Factions are fine, public disagreement is not. This is what China does and what the USSR did. Debate and argue all you like about policy but once a majority opinion is reached and voted upon debate stops. This prevents foreign governments from digging their claws into potentially dissident representatives and gives people confidence that the government is always united. Unlike the system of the US, where the state is perpetually gridlocked with competing special interests from both within and from outside of the country.

What's missing is democratic centralism, which is why party politics matter. Think of it this way: members of the party (socialists by requirement) have a lively democratic debate to decide what the party's positions are on issues, and then are held to those positions in political engagements outside the party. Thus in addition to a congressional model of local representation that decides certain agendas and laws, there is a democratic process among the socialist party itself. There is nothing democratic about allowing bourgeois politics within a socialist state that has already supplanted the bourgeoisie; they do not and cannot represent the mass of the people.
