whats this??? i actually made a campaign dispatch in time???

Hi! ^-^

My name is Dendrobium, big nerd, professional idiot, member of Solidarity, and current Senator in the Thaecian Senate, and I am seeking re-election. In this factbook I will give a short explanation of who I am and why you should vote for me. So sit back, take a snack and a drink (stay hydrated), and allow me to begin.

As mentioned, I am Dendrobium. Some of you might not know me (that well), so to briefly summarize: I have been in Thaecia for exactly one year now (give or take) and have been a Senator for 8 consecutive months of that. Being a member of Solidarity, I am a person who is open to progressive and positive reform, and have been advocating for that for quite some time now. My favorite color is rainbow and my favorite number is triangle.

  • In the last few months in the Senate, countless of bills have been discussed, amended and voted on. Those who have had the (dis)pleasure of sharing their term with me will probably tell you I have participated in nearly all of them in some way; from holding fierce debates on treaties, to proposing amendments left and right, to arguing for and against certain changes brought before us, heck, I think I even proposed an amendment during a voting periode one time, accidentally exploiting some rules and extending time spent on the bill that way... That was fun... Point is, I'm an active Senator and when re-elected intend to remain as active as I can possibly be!

  • Thaecia is more than just a region on this silly site: it's a community. A community of some of the best people I have met and in which I am very active (at least I like to think so). Everyday I try to take a look in the discord or RMB, to hang out, chat with people, share some memes, tell Andy to go to sleep, ... The list goes on! Now this doesn't simply mean I have too much spare time and desperately need to find a hobby, it also means everyday I come close to the people who make up this wonderful region and who I, as Senator, am supposed to represent. Though, thinking of it, I should probably find a hobby as well...

  • Lately a lot of new political parties have sprung up, to the point I can't even keep track of them, and I'm assuming some of you can't either. So saying x-party is bad and y-party is good has no good purpose (although we all know TRP Solidarity is the best one ;) ). For that reason, as I have been doing during my last two terms, I will not be voting or debating based on party, but based on content. If a bill is bad, it gets a big ol' Nay; if a bill is good, sure, slap an Aye on that baby. There is no point to toxicity based on one's allignment, and toxicity is something I nor Soldarity stand for. What I do stand for, is positivity, progress, co-operation and good vibes. Conclusion, if you vote for me, good vibes are guaranteed.

So, uh, yea... That's about it really... Tada! If there is anything you should remember from all this, it is that I have been at least half a decent Senator for the last few months and voting for me means four more months of me being a fool and bringing some positive, progressive, much-needed change to the Senate. Stay hydrated, stay healthy, check your posture, and have a wonderful rest of your day.

The Slightly Influential of Pap Sculgief

Pap Sculgief for the Senate

Introduction
I'm Pap Sculgief, but you can call me Pap. I'm running for the Senate this by-election after taking a brief break from the gamee, however I'm back and will put my all into serving the region. Hopefully, you all have a general knowledge of me, but in case you didn't know, I've been in the region since February last, and have been trying my best to help the region grow and progress in multiple positions in the region and so I feel that I am the right fit for the Senate.

My experience
7 months of Congressional experience
Since the February election last year in which I was elected to the House of Commons, I have spent a collective total of 7 months in Congress in Thaecia. I started off in the House of Commons in which I learnt how the region worked and built up my reputation. I then was elected to the Senate in July 2020 in a by-election, and joined an amazing group of Senators in creating one of the most efficient and effective Senates we’ve seen. We got through bills quickly, while making sure that every bill that came our way was properly scrutinised before we thought about passing it.

Mark made on Thaecian Law
In the more recent bills passed by Congress, you can see my name on many bills as either a sponsor, amender, or even author. During my time in Congress, I learnt the trade, and used it effectively, amending bills to ensure that they are the best they can be, or even writing a bill that creates a completely new procedure in the region. You can see my name on many bills including, unfortunately, the House Committees Act, but also the Executive Branch Impeachable Offences Act, and you can see the bill that I authored - LR.041 - The Thaecian Petitioning Act. I don’t intend to stop there and I know how to write an effective bill, meaning I’m ready for the job!

My Policies
Efficiency and Activity
7 months in the legislature, and I never missed a vote. I want this to stay the same this term. I'm already active in and around the region, so you can trust me to stay active and always put my point of view in. Efficiency will also be at the forefront of me and my campaign, I will focus on making sure that bills are passed quickly, by putting my views across quickly and not proposing unnecessary amendments that slow down business. While speed is a focus, it doesn’t mean that I won’t read everything carefully and make sure that bills are the best that they can be.

Reforming the procedures of the chambers of congress
As a Senator, I intend to amend the House and Senate Procudure Acts. There is lots of unnecessary things in it that need to be removed. For example, why do we have a Shadow Speaker and Deputy Speakers? They are remnants of our party-centric past and one of them needs to go. I also don’t get why caucuses are mentioned in the bills, again, something from our past, where parties were key parts of our political system. These bits need to be removed to get rid of unnecessary bureaucracy.

Properly define a regional emergency
Our constitution mentions a regional emergency and defines it very poorly, exposing it to manipulation if a situation arises that needs it. A regional emergency should be properly defined so we know what exactly what to do in the case of an emergency. As a Senator, I will seek to amend the constitution to ensure that a regional emergency is properly defined and the procedure to calling an emergency is also properly defined. This will ensure future stability.

Working closely with fellow colleagues and the public
As a Senator, I will no doubt be looking to work with fellow Senators on bill ideas or potential amendments to maximise my ability in the chamber. I did this in my July-October 2020 term and it proved incredibly successful, and so I am clearly capable of this. As well as working with Senators, I want to work with the MPs across the pond and the general public, because they are the ones who are able to submit bills to legislature. Working the MPs will be really important, because it will make the legislature more efficient and allow me to understand the views of those working on bills and amendments, and vice versa. The sharing of ideas is very valuable.

Closing Words
The Senate is a tough chamber to work in, and I know that, but I feel that I am the right fit for this chamber. My experience and record over the last year proves my congressional capability, showing that I am ready to step up once again and take a seat in the chamber. And also, to all the new members of the region, if you want to get involved, run for an office! I can’t stress how important it is to run for an office, because if you do get elected you get invaluable experience that provides you the stepping stone to you getting involved more! So try it! Go on! Anyway to finish off, please vote me to the Senate this election. Thanks![/b]

Islonia for Prime Minister

Some words
Boo! For those who don't know me yet, I'm Islonia, commonly referred as 'Altys' or 'Islo'. I'm a highly experienced individual in all three branches of government. People usually know me for my passion for efficient and flexible governancy, my toughness during debates (sometimes my original posts being referred as "Islorant", which are apparently feared by some), or my love for the Linkpikathink emoji. Either way, before passing on to my policies, here's a quick résumé of my experience in NationStates as a whole. Worth noting I may have forgotten some points aha. :P

Platform

Islonia

As a TL;DR, I will work towards restructuring the executive, easing the burden on anyone holding a high office, helping the ministries and departments in their organisation, and promoting and recruiting new staffers. I pledge to further our current FA stance by working closely with our friends abroad, offering more rewarding positions to people in need of experience, and always listen to every one of your complaints, whatever (in a reasonable manner) they may be. This campaign is similar to my previous one, while also differing from it by being more detailed, precise, and radical in its shape changes.

My reasoning behind my policies is simple: our executive is underperforming compared to the legislature. Our region's gameplay focus has always been on that and the laws. In return, our executive was never allowed to fully develop. Yet, we have seen how - with dedication and manpower, the government can answer the citizenry's demands and propose new ways of participating in the region. The recent additions of the Thaempirial Army (led by Brototh) and the WA Program (led by myself) are proof of this.

Therefore, I wish to continue on this track to make the executive attractive and more active! :)

To achieve such goals I will not hesitate to remove inactive departments and ministries to focus on more "core" roles that we can consolidate (recruitment, immigration, archive, FA, etc) and then slowly expand towards new possibilities.

1. Reorganising the structure of the Executive.
My first policy will be to reorganise the current structure of the Executive. As this is an enormous topic, it will be separated into several parts. If you want a TL;DR, I got a really nice graphic for you. :P

Let's begin:
- with Foreign Affairs, the MoFA will be renamed to the CMoFA (Chief Minister for Foreign Affairs). If you want to know more about my ideas for FA, head here.
- with Legal Affairs, the MoLA will be renamed to the CMoLA (Chief Minister for Legal Affairs). If you want to know more about my ideas for LA, head here.
- Finally, the Chief Ministry of Domestic Affairs (CMDA). My thought process on this is simple: As we have seen with The Islamic Country of Honour's tenure as HAM, the position can be an overseer simply delegating tasks to the departmental heads and being there to help when said heads are in trouble. However the HAM, due to this same reason, was a rather big ministry compared to the others, despite having departments running mostly independent from each other.

This Chief Minister will now oversee the following ministries & bureaus:
- The Culture Ministry
- The Data and Research Ministry, which is a new ministry merging the Education Ministry (research department) and Government Site & Factbooks Department (Data). The reason behind this change is explained here.
- The Recruitment Bureau, which will replace the Recruitment Initiative.
- The Immigration Bureau, which will replace the Welcomer and Regional Counseling Departments.

The idea of separating the three ministries created by the Constitution in such a way is to :

  1. Ease the job of the PM by delegating the overseeing of (primarily) domestic tasks to a specific person, like how it worked when I was Deputy Prime Minister.

  2. To have a position whose only task outside overseeing will be to upgrade the overall organisation of the ministries and bureaus by making ad sharing to them different useful organisational resources/help (i.e. a google sheet, giving guidelines on projects, etc).

  3. Allow the Executive to add/remove/change bureaus/ministries under the Domestic Affairs banner, for a more effective executive.

  4. Offer more rewarding positions to Thaecians (to people in need of experience for example, while still considering skill from applicants) while not actually creating more.

Islonia debating against the White Laurel Act in #ns-politics

2. Foreign Affairs.

Firstly, I plan to keep Thaecia involved in Consortium. I myself am one of the most involved persons in this project, and I am really eager to see it last for a long time! As part of this, I would like to see our executive staffers collaborate with other Consortium governments, to exchange our experiences and bring new ones to and from our friends abroad.

Secondly, I plan on making the Foreign Affairs Council more involved in the region's FA. People selected to be part of this council (commonly referred as Senior Diplomats) are experienced persons who we should be able to rely on for any incident that requires the FA to get involved. As we've seen in the past, having just the PM and FAM working on the job can get really stressful. The goal here is simple: ease the burden given to the PM & CMoFA by sharing it with the council, and making FA more healthy and enjoyable while also training possible future FAMs! :P

Finally, as for Foreign Affairs overall, I wish to continue our current approach on the world stage as I believe it currently is the best thing for the region.

3. Legal Affairs.
Not much to say here. Legal Affairs always are that part of the government here to advise the rest of the executive on legal stuff, and I won't give them more work than that (doesn't mean the Chief Minister cannot come up with initiatives by themselves). This part of the executive can't be combined with Domestic Affairs, as no other department/ministry will have the legal expertise like that of the LA.

However if I find a dedicated citizen, I wish for the Chief Minister to be more active on the legal sphere of the region. To propose their own reviews of bills and laws: are they constitutional, what is their impact, is it necessary overall (does it do more good than bad), and so on. Basically the executive's spokeperson on legal affairs.

4. Data and Research Affairs.
Let's face it: The Education Ministry cannot function as it is. Teaching people isn't appealing enough due to manpower and interest constraint.
Therefore I decided to abolish the EM and replace it with a history department tasked with recording Thaecia's history and keep it up-to-date (basically what the EM was doing but without the classes part). The other part of this ministry is the government site & factbooks department that becomes the data department under the MoD&R.

The idea for this ministry is to remove the burden the CMoDA would have if these 2 departments were directly under it while still creating a position that's rewarding (you get to become a thaecian historian and/or get organisation and efficiency skills through managing a team and the display of information through the data compiling).

5. Culture Affairs.
My opinion hasn't changed on the MoC, if anything my term in the position only furthered it. It clearly lacks the manpower to do much yet has an incredible potential. Silly polls, game nights, CYOAs, RMB engagement, etc. basically all the classical things, sometimes participating in bigger events (Paradoxical 2, LNF 1, LNF2) is the best course of action. The culture ministry also is the ministry where you test things to see whether or not they fit the region's culture. The WA Program and the different weekly games I host on discord are an example of this. Some stuff does work, some stuff doesn't. Either way, we either learn what events not to / to host in the future or we entertain people.

The ministry has great potential. We only need to help it shine.

World Assembly Digest - February 2021
A busy and contentious month in the Assembly

By Boston Castle

This month was extremely active in the World Assembly with several resolutions, some quite contentious, passing in both chambers.

Repeal: “Freedom of Assembly”

This proposal was proposed by Wymondham to repeal a long-time resolution on the books (GA #27-passed in December 2008!). The North Pacific stood against this repeal effort, largely due to concerns about specific wording in the repeal. Wymondham’s resolution was, however, supported by the community-at-large and passed 58%-42% on February 5. This would not be the first thing that Wymondham worked on this month-an active month from an impressive first-time author.

Commend King HEM

On the same day that Repeal: “Freedom of Assembly” passed the General Assembly floor, a proposal passed the Security Council: “Commend King HEM”. The irony here lies in Wymondham’s co-author Maowi getting her month started with passing this proposal. Similar to Repeal: “Freedom of Assembly”, this proposal was quite contentious, with the newly formed Partnership for Sovereignty issuing a statement against it. Despite this, the proposal still passed 77%-23% on February 5.

Commend Northern Borland

Initially intended to be something of a joke proposal and a tongue-in-cheek commendation of the nominee by Honeydewistania, this proposal raised trying questions about pure stats commendations and condemnations that are still being discussed in the Security Council. The vote on this proposal went back-and-forth several times between passing and failing during the several days it was on the voting floor, something reflected in the even-split in TNP’s vote. The proposal’s back-and-forth status was largely due to the influence of 10000 Islands Delegate HumanSanity, whose vote changed several times. This vote passed extremely narrowly 51.2%-48.8% on February 10 giving Honeydew his 6th Security Council Resolution authorship.

Right to Assemble

The second time that the fundamental right to assembly was discussed in the Security Council and the intended partner to the repeal earlier this month, this was the second time that a proposal by the team of Maowi and Wymondham was discussed in February. This proposal capped off a busy month for both authors. As suggested by the title, this resolution codified a right to assembly.

However, this proposal was not without controversy as an effort by Greater Cesnica was introduced at the same time and both proposals made the formal queue. While the original proposal was not as controversial as the repeal effort earlier this month, this proposal passed easily 79%-21% on February 13 giving Maowi her 6th General Assembly Resolution authored.

Commend 1 very fast endotarter

This resolution dealt with the commendation of a figure well-known to many in The North and abroad, 1 very fast endotarter, also known as r3n. While the exploits of his long and illustrious second stint on the game are well-established elsewhere, it is worth noting that this proposal raised the ire of several in the defender community. Some figures in the defending community were reluctant to support the measure, or even outright opposed it, due to r3n’s association with independent militaries for whom the vast majority of activities are raiding in the NPA and the Europeian Republican Navy. Ultimately though, TNP author Noahs Second Country saw his proposal prevail, with TNP’s backing of course, and earned his 4th Security Council Resolution authored, and first of this month, 78%-22% on Valentine’s Day (February 14).

Right to Secure Digital Communication

A new face to many in The North, Greater Cesnica has long been accused of badge-hunting in his exploits in the General Assembly largely due to the large volume of proposals he creates and readily submits. Though some may intentionally vote against his proposals, even ones which deal with such a vital issue as ensuring digital communications are secure, his proposals often pass-such was the case with this one. While mired in questions of what constitutes a badge hunt and even if the term should apply to eager authors who pump out quality proposals, Cesnica saw this proposal passed with an emphatic 85%-15% margin on February 17-giving him his 3rd General Assembly resolution authored.

Liberate The Embassy

Perhaps the biggest topic in gameplay, the one which has led the most people to sound off recently has not been the R/D Presidential election-themed tag raids going on in Lily, Grey Wardens Warden Matthew’s trips to fast-food restaurants after the movies, but rather the invasion of The Embassy and the subsequent closure of over 3,600 embassies. Arousing debate among nearly every force that participated in the invasion, defenders seized on the moment and sprang into action with 10000 Islands Delegate HumanSanity submitting and passing a liberation, stopping raiding forces from holding the region for a potential refound. This proposal passed on February 18 by a 70%-30% margin marking an auspicious Security Council debut from the 10000 Islands Delegate.

Whistleblower Protection Act

Yet another proposal that quietly aroused conflicting feelings among many, this proposal dealt with questions of how to protect those exposing illegal activities. Though the proposal itself remained relatively uncontroversial to many, Europe delegate Imperium Anglorum issued a statement announcing that he could not back the legislation due to deficiencies he saw in the legislation. However, the opposition of that region and The East Pacific during the waning days in which Libertanny held the delegacy did not imperil final passage, it made passage by 78%-22% rather than a larger margin. Passage ensured that The North Pacific’s own Boston Castle earned passage of his 2nd General Assembly Resolution.

Repeal: “Commend Northern Borland”

As mentioned earlier in our roundup of this month’s action in The World Assembly, stats-based commendations and condemnations are still a hot topic of discussion in the wider world of the Security Council. Commend Northern Borland was always a contentious resolution, having passed by an extremely narrow margin when it first came to the floor, and opponents seized on this. While pointing out flaws in the resolution, including its use of tongue-in-cheek sarcastic or ironic language, this Repeal made the case to repeal the Commend and it was, indeed, repealed. This proposal passed on February 22 by a 59%-41% margin without the North’s support. It gave The North Pacific’s Noahs Second Country a 2nd Security Council resolution passed this month, coming 8 days after the passage of Commend 1 very fast endotarter, and his 5th overall.
Supporting People With Disabilities

Occasionally, a proposal will genuinely come to be considered quite “feel good”, this one qualifies under that category. Codifying the rights of the disabled into World Assembly law and “reaffirming the right to not be discriminated against on the grounds of disability”, this proposal passed easily-83%-17%. This proposal, authored by Free Las Pinas marked a promising debut for the author in the General Assembly and his resolution, passing on February 25, received the overwhelming support of the North.

Condemn Lily

One of the most infamous independent militaries of the last few years-Lily has no shortage of detractors and admirers. With their rainbow-colored tags on regional WFEs and the sheer number of operations they undertake, it is clear that at some point, regardless of their affiliation, they would be on the receiving end of a condemnation. One such attempt to condemn Lily came to the floor on February 22 and while it showed condemn worthy things, it did not tell the whole story or prove convincing enough for the North, or the wider World Assembly community, to approve it. This proposal failed by a 78%-22% margin on February 26.
