I'm sorry, but I'm not much of a fictional geek. So all these books are pretty much a mystery to me.

Australis, the god of cartography, looks down upon the actions of Holly United with displeasure. Such hubris. Once, mankind feared acting in such a manner, lest they bring down upon their own heads unwanted attention from the heavens. And so, perhaps it is time that they do so again. It is with all the authority of Divine Judgment that the territory of Holly United is deemed to have been overreaching, and her response to change deemed overaggressive. Mundane ripostes such as military maneuvers are laughed aside and the status quo of The Map left unchanged.

Unknown to Panther DF special forces secretly plant nuclear bombs underneath Black Pagoda with the special forces division sacrificing themselves in a manual detonation. While the entire city is devastated by the nuclear blast the mushroom cloud spells out *BANG*

Shortly afterwards a cyberattack hits Panther ridding his nation of pictures of Panthers and instead replacing them with Racoons.

Somewhat. I'm of the wrong generation to have really gotten into it. But a younger family member introduced me to the books, and I read them all. So, I have a sincere fondness for them. I think they're great books, and the characters very well-written. Plus, I just love fantasy books.

This is a heinous act without cause or precedent. Charges of war crimes will be brought forward before the international tribunal.

The international trubinal, which for some reason (most certainly not due to bribery) seems to be entirely formed of Johanneslandian ducks, finds the raccoons rather sweet, and applauds the nation of Holly United for their services to cuteness.

The-nation-formerly-known-as-Panther will remember this betrayal.

Until such a time that we may remedy this situation, we will suffer our cuteness in silent resolve.

As Panther said to A Down And Dusky Blonde, Katniss Everdeen is from the Hunger Games.

Both are great books btw and I suggest anyone who hasn’t read either of them should read at least one of them.

I would actually be interested in hearing what you both liked about the "Hunger Games" series. Obviously, being a HP fan, I have no issues with enjoying the young adult fantasy genre. However, I've heard quite mixed reviews, so I've been reluctant to start them. A very good friend of mine loved them, so I have at least one trusted testimonial.

As was mentioned before, the books are The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. A new trilogy based in Panem was started by Suzanne Collins with the release of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It was much better than the Divergent series... Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant.

Tru Dat! I have some things in common with Katniss. I used to hunt for food for the family with a bow and arrows when I was a girl. When I was older, my Dad taught me to use a rifle and bought me one for my birthday.

What was that? I have an inquiring mind and want to know.

As I said above, I had a connection to Katniss. I thought that the character development of Katniss and the overall story arc were outstanding, not like the Twilight series which were to me just bad fan fiction. Vampires sparkling in the daylight? Give me a break.

Confession: I only ever read the first one and some of Catching Fire. Catching Fire isn’t as good as the first one.

I’m not normally very good at expressing why I like things. I simply like them, but if I had to say a reason then it’s because the Hunger Games starts as a good drama that slowly evolves from Katniss volunteering to the beginning of the Hunger Games where it turns into an action novel and gets several times better.

I see, that's pretty cool. Makes sense you would identify with the character. I've never been hunting, myself.

I rewatched the 1980s film "The Lost Boys," recently. First time I've watched it since the "Twilight" books came out. That film has a lot of blame for Twilight. It's great, but those mopey, emo vampires are definitely a forerunner. They even sparkle!

I understand. I feel the same way. I end up just making exasperated noises and saying "It's soo good!"

But your description was helpful, that there a good arc to the story, as it evolves and gets better.

I’ve never seen The Lost Boys, but Lou Gramm’s “Lost on the Shadows” is definitely one of my favorite 80s songs.

Speaking of good 80s songs:

I like 80s Vampire flicks. Fright Night is awesome, Near Dark is good as well. Vamp is a guilty pleasure. The Twilight movies looked ridiculous, so I avoided them. The hilarious Honest Trailers had me covered though.

That's cool, mates!
Although, fantasy novels are really aren't my type. 😅
Yes, I do love the sleuthing-adventure genre though. Read a lot of Hardy Boys, Famous Five, Secret Seven, Percy Jackson etc. in my early teens.
Right now, I mostly read non fiction books For e.g. the works of Dale Carnegie.
His books are world-class. Simple & precise. 💯

Abalone is speaking about the time when I blew up a whole nation. That was never to be spoken of again. Its from the past, which I would rather not speak of. The Sayabaran people are socially evolved now, and much different from the people of that time.

Sir A. C. Doyle would have made a great detective were it not for the fact that he was a physician. 🙂
I've never read Nancy Drew. But, I definitely will.

Oh yeah, I didn't recognize the name, but I looked it up and yes, it is quintessential 80's rock.

"Fright Night" is great! Kid who is a horror-buff witnesses a next door neighbor as a vampire, and no one believes him...such a good premise. Reminds me of "The Burbs," too, that Tom Hanks movie with a somewhat similar premise. I don't know if "Suburban Horror" is an actual genre, but the 80s had a number of pretty good films that could fit into that category.

And "Near Dark" I think I almost completely forgot about. Bill Baxton is so good in it, he just gets crazier and more fun to watch as the story progresses. I never knew about "Vamp" but it looks pretty bonkers...going on my list of movies to watch.

There's a sort-of documentary/overview of 80s Horror films I watched somewhat recently that you might be interested in:

"In Search of Darkness: A Journey Into Iconic 80s Horror"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Search_of_Darkness

A family member has the "Shudder" streaming service that's all about the horror genre. And that was on there. It's the only place I've ever seen it. But it's over four hours long, and pretty remarkable. It has the feel of those old VH-1 documentaries that used to be made -- mostly talking heads, lots of clips, rapid cutting from one person talking to the next. It doesn't go very deep, but at four hours in length, it goes movie by movie through the 80s, from hidden gems to blockbusters, and it's an amazing survey of sorts. A lot of fun. And some pretty great "experts," too, from John Carpenter to folks who worked in production.

Yep. One my favourite flicks of all time. “You have to have faith for this to work on me, Mr Vincent!” 🧛‍♂️

It’s a fun flick, both comedy and horror.

Panther wrote:"In Search of Darkness: A Journey Into Iconic 80s Horror"

It’s on my list to watch, looks like an impressive piece of work. Videodrome and Night of the Comet are also great movies of that era without Vampires. Elm Street Part 2 is one of the weirdest.
