Massacre in Idaho, Patriot Militia pledge retaliation
BOISE - The conflict between UAR forces and Patriot militia just north of Cour d'Alene, Idaho came to a violent end today when American forces stormed the Patriot compound, leading to the deaths of all 39 Patriot militants on the property, including two minors under the age of 18. A total of three UAR soldiers were killed, while an additional 7 were injured in the final attack. The Patriot militia attempted to set fire to the compound as UAR forces breached the complex, but this was extinguished shortly after the fighting ceased.
President Romney commended the soldiers that fell in combat in a short press release, calling them 'Heroes in the face of fascism.' The Idaho Congressional delegation has already begun plans to propose a bill to allow the three killed soldiers to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. By contrast, Patriot militia leaders issued a condemnation of the 'communist' forces that killed their fellow terrorists, promising 'God's holy retribution' against the UAR for the attack.
White House Re-Dedication Ceremony Scheduled for January 6, 2032 WASHINGTON, DC - Eleven years after the first domestic attack on American democracy, President Romney and other government officials have announced that the White House Re-Dedication Ceremony will take place on the anniversary of the 2021 assault on the U.S. Capitol by Patriot forces. The White House was destroyed in an aerial strike that killed former President Donald Trump at the closing of the Second Civil War nearly two-and-a-half years ago, and President Romney has been residing at the Blair House since then while the famous structure has been rebuilt.
The Reconstruction Committee has attempted to rebuild the White House's main building as close to the original 1791 design as possible, although steel and concrete largely replaced the wood and masonry of the original structure. The remains of the former building, as well as the West Wing which was also destroyed, have been used to create a veneer for the new building. Additional structures are being built alongside the rebuilt portions, including an add-on to the East Wing that survived the destruction as well as an expanded rebuilt West Wing.
As of the beginning of December, the new White House was approximately 50% completed, with final completion scheduled for August of next year. President Romney has indicated he would like to move into the building by April to assist in the final construction process, joking that 'the Blair House is nice, but it definitely feels like [former President] Truman wants me out.'

American prestige and presence in the international arena all but collapsed as the country fell into the Second Civil War, with troops staged around the world being hastily recalled in order to combat the Patriot Movement. With the end of the Civil War, the UAR now has begun to extend itself back onto the international stage, albeit cautiously and in recognition of the fall of American influence. As of 2032, the UAR has tentatively reached agreements with both the European Federation and the Pacific Defense Organization, gaining observer status with the latter, while acknowledging the threats posed by both the Russian Union and China. It remains to be seen just how the UAR will deal with both as their strength recovers.

The United Kingdom's exit from the European Union in 2020 was the beginning of the end for the supranational organization, and the growing divide between Western Europe and Eastern Europe meant that for some countries leaving was preferable to staying. The 'Great Secession' of 2024 left only the Western European states committed to the EU, and without nationalist opposition from the east managed to fully federalize in 2028. The new European Federation originally comprised of 14 members, but the dissolution of Belgium in 2029 resulted in its membership dropping to 13. Despite the reduced geographic composition of the EF, it has already begun showing its influence by committing to alliances with both Albania and Greece as well as intervening in several conflicts in Libya, the Middle East, and the Congo. The EF has been eager to reform its ties with America, however it remains deeply suspicious of its main rival the Visegrad Pact in the east, as well as with Iran as it continues to bombastically threaten the EF's allies Israel and Kurdistan.
Taking advantage of the growing chaos in the nations around it, Russia began embarking on a series of forced annexations in central Asia beginning in 2024, culminating in the creation of the Russian Union in 2026. This new organization was for all intents and purposes a revived Soviet Union, with Russian President Vladimir Putin in charge. The Russian Union also made gains in Europe, invading Ukraine in 2026 while the Americans and Europeans were too busy dealing with unrest of their own, and then annexing Belarus and several Georgian territories the following year. By 2030, the Russian Union had managed to annex or otherwise install puppet governments in nearly all of the territories of the former Soviet Union, providing Putin with the impetus to declare himself 'President for Life'. Because of this aggressive behavior, the Russian Union has made enemies of most of its neighbors, including China for the continued interference in Mongolian affairs and the new UAR for granting asylum to several Patriot leaders. The Russian nuclear arsenal however means that little will come of this international outrage.
With the United States falling into internal conflict, the People's Republic of China jumped at the opportunity at last to create the order in the Far East that it desired, beginning with the invasion of Taiwan in 2025. The breakaway island put up a stiff resistance but was ultimately broken by Chinese manpower, and to this day the island is governed in a particularly brutal manner. Chinese agents further infiltrated the governments of the country's neighbors, reforming or overthrowing them to create pliant Chinese client states. Additionally, Chinese economic aid was sent to the nations of Africa and Latin America after American funds dried up, turning several left-leaning countries on both continents into loyal Chinese allies. However, this has led to a great deal of hostility from the remaining democratic nations of the world, and was the direct cause for the creation of the Pacific Defense Organization. China however has not shown any indication its aggression will end any time soon, and in 2031 even occupied North Korea to prevent Kim Jong-Un from further unification talks with the south.

The long-governing Modi government in India finally came to an end following a corruption scandal in 2024, allowing the INC to regain power after a decade in opposition. With the United States withdrawing from the region due to its civil war, India was left to fend for itself against not only a hostile China but also an empowered Pakistan, leading to a short war with both over control of Kashmir in 2025. India came out on top against Pakistan, seizing all of the disputed territory, but was forced to agree to a status quo peace with China after the threat of nuclear annihilation presented itself (with several nuclear weapons being discharged against Pakistani and Chinese forces during the war). As a result, India has a very low opinion of both China and Iran, who approached Pakistan as an ally of opportunity, leaving it in want of major allies in the region. India has recently begun overtures to both the European Federation and the Pacific Defense Organization as a promising ally in the region, and these calls have not gone unnoticed by either as the threats from both China and Iran continue to grow.
Iran's long-standing feud with the United States came to an abrupt end when the Americans fell into civil war, allowing Iran to set about remaking the Middle East in its image. Its biggest threat, Saudi Arabia, was dealt with relatively easily by supporting anti-Saud and fundamentalist uprisings across the country, leading to the overthrow of the monarchy and establishment of a friendly puppet government in 2027. From there, Iran engineered the breakup of the nominally pro-western Iraq, overthrew the Assad regime in Syria (thereby angering Russia in the process), and gained the support of multiple Islamist governments in North Africa and Arabia. By 2031, Iran's influence encompassed nearly all of the Middle East except for Israel and Kurdistan, both of which had turned to Europe for protection in response. Additionally, Iran co-opted the Taliban regime in Afghanistan into a loyal ally as well as gained Pakistan's favor by promising to help retake Kashmir from India. This aggression, coupled with the Iranian government's overt hostility to non-Islamic governments and societies, has managed to completely ostracize Iran in the international community.
The unpopularity of the Bolsonaro Government in Brazil led to a military takeover in early 2023, and a short-lived dictatorship governed the country before free elections were held once again. The new Brazilian government was quick to label itself as the new power in the Western Hemisphere as the United States collapsed into civil war, and Brazil acted upon this by signing several agreements with friendly neighboring countries to establish itself as an international powerhouse. This led Brazil into conflict with both Russia and China as they began expanding their influences in Venezuela and Peru, respectively, and the Brazilian government responded by persuading several allied nations into a defense agreement. With the slow reemergence of the United American Republic, Brazil is all too eager to reestablish ties and gain support in ostracizing the overseas threats that have made their way to South America. Brazil has also begun to push for greater relations with the European Federation and Pacific Defense Organization for the same reason.
Growing political and cultural differences between Western Europe and Eastern Europe finally led to the collapse of the European Union in 2024 when members of the Visegrad Group - Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia - all unilaterally withdrew, citing a collapse of a 'European' identity as well as overbearing regulations. The group quickly reformed their unofficial agreement into an international alliance, rebranding themselves as the Visegrad Pact and gaining the support of much of Eastern Europe that also disagreed with many EU rules. However, the conservative nationalism of the membership meant that democracy was quickly done away with in most member and observer states. The bitter rivalry with the more liberal EF to the west means that, despite the greater threat from the Russian Union to the east, the Visegrad Pact instead has pledged non-intervention in most international affairs, preferring to hold down their own as opposed to intervene in affairs that do not concern them.
The catastrophic withdrawal of the United States from the Far East, coupled with China's aggressive actions against Taiwan and across Southeast Asia, prompted the former allies of the United States in the region to seriously consider a new alliance to ward off future Chinese aggression. The result was the Pacific Defense Organization, inaugurated in 2028 as a five-nation alliance of Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand. The alliance swiftly put an end to Chinese aggression against the Philippines and Indonesia, the former of which became an observing member of the Organization once Chinese interference was rooted out. Japan has shucked off Article 9 of its Constitution in order to rearm for potential conflict, while the Organization as a whole has been eager to welcome the United American Republic as a member to further dissuade China from further aggression in the region.
