Yorktene | Outrage in Augusta Square, January 1900 | CBC News |Governer Marion Arloch of Maine, a Republican has been shot to death in Augusta Square this morning while leaving the state capitol building. He was rushed to the local hospital where he died from complications from surgrey. The shooter, has been identified as Marcus Wren, a registered Democrat who says he had shot Governor Arloch because of his views on the statehood policy of prohibition. Arloch, who was an outspoken supporter of prohibition has recieved criticism for his view, and several death threats, in which one was carried out on him. | Court Trial |Judge Duite from the state of Maine, has issued the shooter, Wren to life in prison with no parole. Which was later negotiated by Wren's lawyers to overrul his decision and have the trial take place with a jury. The jury has ruled Wren, guilty of the crime in a vote 10 to 0. They have sentenced him to death by firing squad. His set execution date will be Janurary 20th, 1900. | |

Monroe won the election by winning 60% of the electorial college but slightly losing the electorial college to Marsich, the first time in history for this to happen. Thomas Monroe and his Vice Presidential pick, Arnold Harris will assume office on January 20 of 1901. | Riots |Riots against the President Elect have taken place accross the country, with the most notable one taking place in Boston, Massachusetts. Over one million people have hit the streets to protest, and some to even riot the outcome of the election. In Boston, there has been twelve deaths and several fires started by rioters, as well as many buildings and buisnesses looted. Several arrests have been made. President Elect Monroe has called for unity, and to stop the riots. He has called for the people of New England to accept the outcome of the election. | |
