In that case, King Berengar I would like to suggest a marriage pact with Empress Julia I between his third sister, Princess Alara Maranyon and her third brother, Prince Tiberius Caesar, Prince of Epirus.
The Empress Great-Grandmother, Empress Theodora Caesarina accepts King Berengar's suggestion. (The Empress Great-Grandmother is the De Facto and De Jure head of the Imperial Clan.)
Yep, she was sorta in a self-imposed exile for a while, living in a villa by the Aegean Sea and letting the Empress Grandmother run the show, until the whole Prince Marcus and Boguila situation, then she came knocking on the palace doors with her sunglasses and Louis Vuitton to show everyone who's really boss.
The Riessans would see the fact that a successive number of women of increasingly old age are the ones in charge of the Imperian government as weak, given the patriarchal stigma that runs through the culture.
But there is something impressive abound being able to still grab the reigns of power in one’s winter.
The Empress Great Grandmother is 74 The Empress Dowager is 55 and the Empress mother is 46
They're not in charge of the Governments, that the Prime Minister/President of the Imperium, They do however dominate High Society and the Imperial Clan and have the Keays to the Caesarean Dynasty's $4 Trillion net worth of assets so through that they are able to throw their weight in Imperian Politics, that and they also take up some of the Empress's work such as issuing Imperial Rescripts and reading reports from Imperial Representatives in the Provinces.
And taking from the Ottomans, Former Empress-Consorts, especially the Empress Mother may intervene directly in Political Affairs by exercising the right of observation: Sitting in Cabinet Meetings and observing parliament from a private screened gallery. They are also by default, Councillors of State and can assume the title of Regent of the Empire if needed.
The archprince is a tad perplexed at the suggestion that his policies just recently "came to light" - Thiranaedh has had these socio-cultural institutions for a thousand years and longer. In an uncharacteristically courteous private response to the colonel, the archprince graciously accepts the Imaratian's decision not to come visit Thiranaedh. He shows regret at the fact that Giorgi Elanadze would believe the exaggerated and slanderous reports of human rights abuses instead of coming to see Thiranaedh's splendor, beauty, and wonderful society with his own eyes. The archprince reassures him that he will always be welcome at court in Bælâkfèr, and wishes him all the best in his endeavors.
Those who know about the archprince's private correspondence with the colonel believe that the current head of state of Thiranaedh is unwilling to antagonise Elanadze, whom he supposedly believes might be used to topple the current pro-Genes regime. Whether or not the archprince's intentions would be fruitful in any way, shape or form is anyone's best guess.
No person should live to see 74. Thiranaedh is proud of sustaining a population of young men and women that live to the zenith of their physical ability, and die a heroic death not long after. The fact that these heroic deaths are often found in family feuds, armed duels, mercenary service abroad or childbirth is seen as a secondary concern.
The perceived widespread sexism and misogyny in Riessan society is a subject that has weighed on the archprince's mind as of late, and though he has had a hard time to give it much thought with the barrage of what we now know to be vapid threats against the sovereignty of his country, he hopes to learn more about Riessan gender roles. Thiranaedh is a nation where heterosexuality and monogamy typically aren't the norm - monogamous unions have always occupied a prominent place in Okhéia society, but the country relies on a vast network of non-monogamous relations to keep its fertility rate higher than its death rate. When compared to many other countries, the Okhéiæ tend to get a lot of freedom to choose whom they sleep with, man or woman, which is a homage to the nation's unorthodox pagan culture in an otherwise somewhat restrictive state.
The archprince would like to know more about Riessan gender roles, and invites that nation's leading cultural figures, as well as those of other Meilluran states to create a cross-cultural dialogue to establish whether there might be possible to reach regional common ground on women's rights, among other topics.
The Predosas would oddly not be out of place here as a centuries-old clan of mercenaries with their moments of family duels and deaths.

…up until this point. Having an apparently unbreakable sense of duty, and seeing marriage as a dutiful act, they have been historically passionate monogamists. And are pretty rigorous in gender-roles.
Riessan reactionary ideas comes in waves. Back in the 1930s Riessany had some of the most liberal laws on gender roles and sexuality— but then there was a major conservative backlash. A similar turn towards liberalism and then backlash occurred in the 1980s.
Augustus I really rebuilt that glass ceiling after ascending to the throne.
King Berengar has taken something of a behind closed door policy. As long as the strong, hyper masculine heteronormative patriarchal system is upheld in public, you can do as you wish behind closed doors.
This is mostly a social aspect, not a legal one, with most of the repressive legal enforcements having been done away with, though the limits on women to ascending to the throne were a more recent addition.
