In 3 weeks of job hunting I can say two things: the Ďworker shortageí is to a certain degree, a myth. Secondly, the vast majority of recruiters and companies treat candidates like disposable garbage

It's all in the handshake, Hock.

Depends on the industry and what the company is offering pay wise.
At my work we have tons of open reqs that they canít find people to fill, but Iím not sure that the pay is competitive with the rest of the industry.

The pay might be an issue, but from my anecdotal experience and from what Iíve seen online itís because hiring departments are still acting like itís the aftermath of the Great Recession and are looking for unicorn candidates that perfectly fill a position. Iíve sent out countless resumes to no-name and weíll-known companies that Iím either qualified or over-qualified for and have been ghosted or told Iím under qualified after an interview or two. Iíve listened to recruiters rant about how hiring managers constantly complain about a worker shortage but also constantly reject any candidate the recruiter sends to them, regardless of how little or much experience that candidate has. I could go on

Thatís very true, businesses have been extremely slow to react to this change. A lot of tech companies are also facing extremely high attrition because they think they can treat their employees the same way they have for years and that a 2% raise is perfectly adequate.

But there's free donuts on Fridays. You'll never get far if you aren't a team player, Cek.

They told everyone at my workplace that they were getting 4% raises due to inflation. Despite the fact inflation was over 8%. They finally raised it to 5-6% after people started mentioning in their 1on1s that they could get 10% or more raises by going to another company.

Iíve come to realize based on my experience at multiple companies is that HR/recruiting departments are wildly incompetent and tend to be staffed by people who canít get jobs in other fields because they donít have any skills or lack intelligence. This sounds harsh but Iíve literally had an hr person forget to show up to a meeting I requested because I had someone physically shove me in the workplace
