Vaspartama is made up of five tribes that settled on the Caspian sea. Each tribe represents a different ethnolinguistic group that migrated into the same area over time

For most of Vaspartamian history there were no borders, only a large domain where herds of sheep and horses could be grazed and some crops could be cultivated

The first of five tribes is the Scoloti tribe, and these people were ethnically similar to the Ossetian people today. They settled in what is now Vaspartama in prehistoric times and remained there ever since.

The second of the five tribes is the Sole tribe, made up initially of nomadic Proto-Indo-European speakers who arrived from Central Asia and later replaced by Galatian Celts. Vaspartamians tend to be taller than average and also have blond or bright red hair, freckles and blue eyes and these phenotypes show how numerically superior the Sole were in Vaspartamian history and how interconnected the tribes are because all five tribes show these traits now.

The third tribe is the Iberi, made up of Slavs who followed the Don and Volga rivers to finally settle on the Caspian sea. They introduced agriculture to Vaspartama and lived harmoniously, content to be ruled by Scoloti and Sole nobility. While they were the underclass, they had the most influence on the religion of Vaspartama, with Perun and the other Slavic deities being quickly adopted by the common people. The nobles kept the cult of Maatir, the mother goddess of the Sole.

The fourth tribe is the Onor, made up of Bulgarian invaders from the Pontic steppe who migrated south and conquered the entire region, replacing the Scoloti and Sole nobility with Bulgarian nobility. They didn't stay aloof for long and became quickly Slavicized, adopting the language (=Bulgarian) and customs of their people and even combining their religion with the indigenous religion-- they identified the thunder god Perun with their own god Tangra and even now they worship the local pantheon with Tangra equivalent to Perun. They were less taken with the cult of Maatir which only survived this time by combining with the now dominant Iberi religion. The Bulgarian title Kanas U-Bigi remained the main unifying title of Vaspartama even after its meaning was long forgotten.

The fifth tribe is the Yeles, made up of Mongols who were quickly expanding into the steppelands. The Mongol yoke was readily accepted because the Vaspartamian people noticed how the Mongol god Tengri was very similar to the Vaspartamian god Tangra-Perun, and they chafed under the rule of their nomadic nobility. This was the second time the cult of Maatir almost went extinct but after Vaspartama stopped paying tribute to the Mongols in 1517 and the tribal nobility was restored, the "Miracle of Maatir" occurred, when Kanas U-Bigi Radomir the Enlightened was inducted into the cult of Maatir and made many reforms such as outlawing bride-kidnapping (but not husband-kidnapping) and making it so that descent favoured the matrilineal line and dowries passed from the husband's father to the wife's.

Further, he decreed that when the Five Tribes conquered a people, the men over eight would be executed and the remainder would be educated as Vaspartamians. The women would keep their dignity and could opt to choose husbands from the Five Tribes. Eventually, all Vaspartamian women would choose their husbands rather than the converse.

The delineation of slaves also changed, where women could keep bed slaves and chattel slaves but men could only keep slave warriors and this shift in property ownership was the greatest coup for women in Vaspartama. With the cult of Maatir now the religion of the ruling class, a central hierarchy was introduced and the highest priestess in the land, in charge of determining when to plant, harvest, and make war, became the Matriarch or Matriarhat. Because this position was more permanent than that of the Kanas U-Bigi, which was only ever truly needed in times of war, the Chieftess became increasingly authoritative, legislating moral decency and conducting inquisitions.

The Vaspartama Raajavansh was a short-lived empire that existed in two stages. The first stage was when the Kanas U-Bigi at the time led the Five Tribes on a migration along the southern mountain range into the Ganges River Valley. They came into conflict with many Indian states but remained dominant until a coalition forced them back into the steppes.

The second stage was very similar to the first, but this time Indian people asked for protection from more powerful Indian conquerors. A brief dominion was imposed on northern India, but heavy armour and elephants eventually proved too costly to fight against and the tribes assassinated the Kanas U-Bigi and returned of their own accord.

Vaspartamian society is centered around tribal affiliation and even slaves belonged to a tribe-- slavery is in theory illegal now. Tribes are divided into clans, like the Dulo clan (of the Onor tribe) or the Cattis clan (of the Sole tribe). The leader of a clan is the most militarily powerful, wealthiest, or most senior member and is called the kral.
The leader of a tribe is the strongest and most morally upright member and is called a tsar or tsaritsa for male or female.

The leader of all the tribes is the Kanas U-Bigi, or high king, who is always the militarily strongest and most morally upright tsar/tsaritsa and this is chosen at an acclamation, or khuriltai, held every time a Kanas U-Bigi dies. Such acclamations are held every four years if no decision is reached and the Chieftess leads the people until the next acclamation.
