I like fire | I tend to listen to a lot of metal before I sleep to tire my brain out, and then I switch to soft instrumentals. I find Lo-Fi beats to be the most drowsy-inducing for those nights I'm just totally restless. Though, I am curious about these Japanese and Indonesian folk songs, I do enjoy learning about music, and about music from other cultures. Folk music can be really cool! Bob Dylan is certainly one of the better known artists. There is a group called the Arcadian Wild, they have some good songs. Like "Wolves of the Revolution", "Empress", "Wander. Wonder.", "Envy Green", and "Millstatt", they have a really nice sound to them. There's also a bunch of other acoustic folksy-artists that I like to listen to, especially in the autumn. I really love pretending to be in a lightly-drizzling autumnal forest, just hiking, seeing the trees and the blazing oranges and yellows, deep reds, the busy hustling of animals preparing for the winter, the air of the end of a season, as the world prepares for the winter. I like to imagine the chill in the air, the nip of impending Winter, the smell of a sweet hot cocoa to warm the spirit. Making my way to a modest tent, light the campfire, whip out the acoustic, and play sweet melodies while the stars rise, and Orion rises higher and higher in the sky. It's a lovely kind of magic, i think. Too bad i live in Florida, and the closest we get to "the nip of impending Winter" is the one day a year the night temperatures falls below 40 degrees Fahrenheit/5 degrees Celsius. It hasn't gotten below 0 degrees Celsius/32 degrees Fahrenheit in my recent memory. The trees here hardly put up any kind of show, though I am grateful for where i live, because it has its own kind of eternal Summer magic, the kind where you just feel endlessly careless, with the sand in between your toes, the tang of key lime pie dazzling the taste buds, the fish darting to and fro in the shallows, the relaxing sound of the waves crashing upon the shore... The annoying honk of the desperate seagull stealing the food you just made without any consideration for your person, likely fueled by a being worse than the fiery pits of hell, spawned to Earth solely to torment the souls of people who just happen to catch the winged monster's ire... I will stop now because I realized that I had rambled on for a good while and this went from music to my undying hatred for seagulls. The Dominion of Drystar | For a brief moment I almost thought you were our own kpop loving Poppy from TSP, but you actually used paragraphs and punctuation. I like fire | Nah, I'm just your friendly neighborhood Phoenix, also from TSP :P Everyone has preferences, and that is what is so amazing from music. So much expression in different genres, so much talent that exists, just bursting to be heard above the monotony of mainstream pop. Even just barely below the surface you find so many gemstones. I can never not be in awe of how many different things appeal to many different people, some people have overlap with their tastes, but no two people overlap exactly. It's so amazing to me. We are all musical snowflakes in a massive alpine forest, with so much to explore, and not enough lifetime to see it all, and the forest continues to expand endlessly. It is honestly so awe-inspiring to me. Atsvea, Lord Dominator, Turbeaux, Canaltia, and 6 othersOuter Bele Levy Epies, Virdonis, Lura, McClandia Doge 2, Middle Barael, and The young ur | |
The Most Serene Eco-Republic of Middle Barael | I never really go to sleep with music, but on the weekdays, I wake up with music. Usually it’s either Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (my school musical, I listened to it to help cement the songs in my head), Alegría (the Cirque du Soleil Show), or from Hamilton, but sometimes it is other songs, like the other day I woke up with Total Eclipse of the Heart. I have in the past once tried to fall asleep with Alegría, but I eventually stopped, because I fell asleep just as quickly without it, and all it really did was drain my phone battery. I don’t really love American country music or American folk music, but I love ethnic music. When I went to India around a year and a half ago, we listened a lot to Punjabi Pop-Music (aka Bhangra), and the community I live in has many Jews and Israelis, so I also listen sometimes to Israeli Pop (I’d recommend listening to the singers/groups “Static and Ben El” and “Netta”). I listen also to a lot of traditional Jewish and Israeli music. I come from a family that loves travel and different cultures, so I listen to a lot of Middle Eastern Music, Indian music, French music, and Italian music, and when I was little my mom worked at a music studio called Putumayo, which collected traditional music from around the globe, including African, Middle Eastern, Indian, Latin American, French, East Asian, and Greek. My mom also lived for a very long time in the Arab quarter of Paris, so I listened to a lot of older French music, such as Edith Peof, and music from the Middle East, North Africa, and the Sahel, since many of those people lived in her neighborhood. Ultimately, while I may not listen to music very often, I still love different types of music from around the globe. Cameroi | folk music of folk in fantasy stories, folks who haven't been born yet, or live in another universe, called "filk" because the misspelling stuck as a genre label. the other is almost anything that's a bit obscure, but without overdone percussion. preferably anything that reminds me of strange endless forest covered mountains and odd little houses and odd little people sized trains, live creatures are not for buying and selling but only adopting if they wish to be. they have their own music too, as do mechanical objects. The Federated Bailiwicks of Verdant Haven | You. I like you. This is utterly fantastic, both as a show and as a soundtrack. Francesca Gagnon utterly owns it as The Singer in White for the 1994 production. Absolutely heart-touching and powerful. My wife and I used this soundtrack (plus the one from Quidam) as the background for dinner at our wedding. I'm extremely sad that the revival tour that opened late last year had to be suspended due to the pandemic. I wanted very dearly to go, and given how long it's been, I'm not sure if they'll be able to continue it once things return to normal. Even though it's changed up a bunch in the new version, I desperately want to attend. Cirque shows have their own kind of magic. Eco-empire | For those interested in factbooks, I have (at last) finished my Overview factbook. The Rational Democracy of Eco-empire Flag Motto & Location The hard work of one does more than the prayers of many Location: See Here General Information Population: 45 million humans Capital: Darwin II Official Language: Esperanto/ English National Language: English Demonym: Eco-empirean Politics Government: Legislature: Establishment: from United Nations Economy GDP (nominal): $533 billion Average Lifespan: 90.6 years Currency: Euro Miscellaneous Time Zone: Varies Drives on the: Left side Calling code: +019 Eco-Empire The Rational Democracy of Eco-Empire, , is a Semi-direct, technocratic democracy located in north Forest. It borders Plifte to the south, Newvigen and Canaltia to the west, untamed wilderness to the east and ocean to the north. Most residents live in or around the massive Eco-cities, the biggest of wich is the capital, Darwin II. The cities are home to the bulk of Eco-empirean human assets with only a small, dwindling minority still residing in the countryside. Eco-empire seeks to promote and uphold the values of enviornmentalism, secularism, reason and scientism throughout the known world and, in the future, the Cosmos. It is not part of any supranational body, altough Eco-empire mantains good relations with most of them, and tries to be as self-reliant as possible. It is well known for it's citizens internationalism and civic patriotism, devotion to science, eco-friendly policies and anti-theistic stance. Etymology "Eco-empire" was the pejorative name given to the nation when it was founded. As time progressed, the inhabitants of Eco-empire began to openly embrace that name, as a way to prove they were proud of their choices and ideals. The Khauta people lived in eco-empire for 200 years before explorers from Neo intermarium braved the unrelenting wilderness and discovered them and the pristine land they lived in. Soon, the greedy colonisers began enslaving the natives, occupying their land and burning the forests, using their supperior numbers and firepower to defeat the divided tribes. The natives rebelled against their new oppressors several times, but the lack of an unified strategy prevented them from achieving sucsess. The new regime adopted immediately a democratic socialist, decentralized and secular regime. The native Khauta and the Exilees eventually merged, forging a new culture. During this time, the so-called "Order of violet" arose, supporting the estabelishment of a Theocratic regime. They quickly gathered a large number of fanaticized members which were promissed a post-mortem life of riches and oppulence if they died in service of the Holy cause. However, the war was won by the Eco-empirean regime using lightning strikes and colaborating with resistance movements. the war left a deep scar in Eco-empire, reinforcing their anti-theism and isolationist stance. To prevent this from happening again, the government banned many cults, strenghtened the armed forces and drastically augmented the funds given to education and science departments. Eco-empire has since been only once in an open war, against the neighboring Brazilistan due to their support of the neo-violetist Klan for a Violetist State. The war was won and brazilistan annexed thanks to a blitzkrieg campaign that encircled and crushed the Brazilistani army. Eco-empire has not estabelished formal diplomatic relations with any other nation on forest, but it has many informal ambassadors and observers in neighboring nations. Image- Kahuta village razed by colonisers Geography Northern Eco-empire has a subartic clima, being partially covered by tundra forests. It usually has very cold winters (reaching −50 °C), and short, cool to mild summers (up to 26º C). With 6 consecutive months where the average temperature is below freezing, all moisture in the soil and subsoil freezes solidly to depths of many feet. Summer warmth is insufficient to thaw more than a few surface feet, so permafrost prevails under most areas not near the southern boundary of this climate zone. Typically, in the north there is few precipitation, no more than 380 mm (15 in) over an entire year. Away from the coasts, precipitation occurs mostly in the warmer months, while in coastal areas the heaviest precipitation is usually during the autumn months when the relative warmth of sea vis-à-vis land is greatest. The northern Eco-empire is covered by Taiga forests. Southern Eco-empire presents a striking contrast to the north, being entirely of tropical savanna climate. It has a lenghty dry season (7-8 months) and a short wet season where it receives just enough precipitation to preclude it from a semi-arid climate classification. This region is dominated by grass and/or shrubs with some scattered trees. The South is covered, thus, by a Tropical savanna Biodiversity In the north, the taiga is home to a relatively small variety of animals, includes 85 species of mammals, 130 species of fish, and an estimated 32,000 species of insects, due to it's harsh conditions. Insects play a critical role as pollinators, decomposers, and as a part of the food web. Many nesting birds rely on them for food in the summer months. The cold winters and short summers make the taiga a challenging biome for reptiles and amphibians, which depend on environmental conditions to regulate their body temperatures, and there are only a few species in the boreal forest. Nonetheless it is home to a number of large herbivorous mammals, such as moose and a smaller version of Stephanorius. The largest animal in the taiga is the Steppe bison. Many large carnivores also dwell in the taiga, such as the grey wolves, brown bear and the Epicyon Haydeni. The southern regions have more bidiversity, containing around 3,400 plant species, 500 birds, 150 mammals, and 220 reptiles and amphibians. The southern region ecosystems include riverine forests, wetlands and savannas. Animals typically associated with tropical and subtropical forests are often found throughout the wetlands, including jaguars, howler monkeys and tapirs. On the drier areas, mammals such as the serval, guanaco, kahutan lion (similar to the cave lion), and the toxodon. In terms of avian wildlife, torrent duck, giant coot, flamingos, lesser rhea, mountain-toucans, egyptian vulture and some humming birds are the most common. There are also large flightless birds like the Geyornis. In terms of reptiles, the most well known (and feared) are the Komodo dragon, wich lives in the savannas and the gigantic (but rare) Titanoboa. Eco-empire is crossed by many rivers, the biggest of wich is the Huygens river, and, as such, id home to a wide varirety of aquatic or semi aquatic species. Notable among them are the spectacled caiman, beaver, common snapping turtle and the giant otter. image- Epicyon haydeni Settlements Eco-empire adopted the concept of Eco-cities to better divide the nation in autonomous regions, each led by a major city, and to allow the countryside to be turnedinto natural reserves and no go zones for humans (except researchers and vigilants). Each city is governed by a city council, and most of the issues that the city and surrounding region faces are solved through popular referendums and E-democracy. The cities are linked to one another through a network of state-funded and renewable energies-powered high speed trains. there are still some traditional villages, mainly populated by the eldery and tourism villages, where visitors from all over the world can admire Eco-empire's natural wonders. Demographics In some areas where, prior to independence, the birthrate was catastrofically high, one-child policy was implemented. Religion Teaching of religion as presenting any kind of truth in schools is strictly forbidden, including in private schools. All religious cerimonies or mass gatherings must be state-authorised. In the case where an individual’s religious convictions conflict with medical care, the physician must not obey the pacient and do what is deemed scientifically/medically fit for the situation. Vaccinations are mandatory. Government As such, Eco-empire is governed by a "system of popularly elected administrative councils, allowing local communities to exercise autonomous control over their assets, while linking to other communities via a network of confederal councils." that are supervised by the central government to mantain unity aand cooperation. All are welcome to partake in the communal councils, but political participation is not mandated. Legislative: Ideology image- The parliament Law Eco-empirean law is divided into two principal areas: private law and public law. Private law includes, in particular, civil law and criminal law. Public law includes, in particular, administrative law and constitutional law. However, in practical terms, Eco-empire's law comprises three principal areas of law: civil law, criminal law, and administrative law. Criminal laws can only address the future and not the past (criminal ex post facto laws are prohibited). Eco-empire embraces Defensive democracy and prohibits all pratice and dissemination of hate ideologies (such as nazism, fascism, stalinism, maoism, ethnic supremacism, ultraconservatism,etc..) and pseudoscientific false claims (flat earth, creationism, vaccines cause authism, geocentrism, and other anti-scientific theories) Foreign Relations and Military Eco-empire will fight by all means necessary any state or organisation that:
Military Tactics: Image- Standart eco-empirean soldiers Economic Indicators Currency: Euro Fiscal Year: October 1 - September 30 Labor Force: 72.345 million Unemployment: 1.90% Eco-empire has a mixed economy that combines private enterprise with substantial state enterprise and government intervention. The government retains considerable influence over key segments of infrastructure sectors, with majority ownership of railway, electricity, aircraft, nuclear power and telecommunications. As a Self-reliant wannabe, Eco-empire tries to run a local, circular/recyclable economy. "Everything that can be reutilised, will be reutilised!" is a core tenet of the Eco-empirean economy. Most energy that powers Eco-empire comes from renewable sources, wich include geothermal, solar, wind, hydroelectricity, biomass, tidal and wave energy with wind energy being the most commonly used form of energy. A solar pannel ring orbiting the system's star will be opperational soon, meaning that traditional power sources will soon be abandoned. Science and Technology Currently, Eco-empire is developing three groundbreaking projects. First: Project ressurection, the return of the "Canis Dirus" through genetic engineering of the common grey wolf (Canis Lupus). Sucsess is at hand. Second: Project Escape, the development of a large spaceship that would use solar sails, and that would be used to deliever people and cargo between Eco-empire and colonies in other celestial bodies. Already in testing phase. Third: Project Harvester, the development of crop pollinisation robotic insects, will allow huge underground or underwater farms to produce mass quantities of supplies, therefore allowing most of the surface to be designated as protected and Human free areas. Eco-empire has a space agency (Main article: The EESA), wich is fairly well funded, having an highly active space program, conducting deep-space, planetary, and aviation research, and developing rockets and satellites. Scientific education is a priority in Eco-empire, with the history of earth and life being taught to all children from a very young age. Image- The improvement of artifficial intelligence and androids is one great acomplishment of Eco-empire Culture Education and Healthcare The Eco-empirean health care system is one of universal health care largely financed by government national health insurance. Approximately 79% of all health expenditures are covered by government funded agencies. Art and Architecture During the colonial period, many fortified castles, resembling the european ones were built by governors and aristocrats to mark their powers and to protect themselves from rebels. Altough, once again, many such castles were destroyed by the violetists, many still survive. Kahuta buildings have traditionally been typified by wooden structures, elevated slightly off the ground, with tiled or thatched roofs. They often use sliding doors that break down the distinction between rooms and indoor and outdoor space. Since the end of the violetist rule, however, the most common buildings are the high rise buildings of the cities. many castles and kahuta buildings have been declared protected sites by the ministry of culture, and atract thousands of visitors each year. Eco-empire has also preserved many shrines and religious temples despite it's atheistic nature. Food and Drink Breakfasts typically consist of flatbread and insects (mainly fried ants), occasionally with some variety of boiled eggs or cheese. Midday meals are often similar to breakfast, though often include many different kinds of fresh vegetables, while evening meals usually include some small portion of meat or fish served with some combination of sweet cofee bread, oat products, legumes, potatoes. Kahutas brew an alcoholic beverage known as Spîn Malhu (spirit finder), wich is similar to ale beer. When consumed traditionally it is often served as a snaps, but nowadays it is also popularly consumed as a drink ingredient. However, plain waer is still the most widely consumed drink. The Confederacy of Novian Republics | After quickly scrolling through my Facebook feed (which now consists mostly of ads and news since I don't follow people) I came across an article about this Indo-Japanese girl (Kimura Hana) that passed on after enduring cyberbullying, mental health issues as well as the "polite racism" seemingly ingrained in Japanese culture. Since I'm biethnic myself it piqued my interest so I read the article and then proceeded to read the comments. Obviously, comments in most social media are often not really worth reading (like Youtube comments) so I only really have myself to blame for what followed; that is me being irked the wrong the way by the overall sentiment in the comment section. Now get this, people were supposedly condemning racism while at the same time lumping all Asians together by saying things like; "Japanese are polite racists who believe “Japanese” are a race apart from “Asians”."; "...at face value...she was half Asian...and half Asian." and in response to the former "[REDACTED] probably that being Japanese isn’t the same as being Asian from their point of view." To me, this is just as racist as it's essentially racism via wilful ignorance, that is to say the implied assertion that all Asians are the same regardless of differing cultures, the opposite of which is somewhat implied by there being different Asian nationalities and/or ethnicities. That's essentially lumping all Asians together and is obviously a case of gross overgeneralisation. It's also ignoring the fact that Asian is most probably not a primary identifier for people living in Asia in the same way it [probably] isn't for people living in Europe. I for one would for example never identify as a European/African first and foremost if asked about my origin/ethnicity/nationality (e.g. the question "Where are you from?") With all that said, I would like to ask you all for your thoughts on the matter, as well as how you self-identify. I'm also quite interested in hearing about how Asian-Americans self-identify, so if any of you know any or if you are one yourself then your input would be most appreciated.
