| Plang man tiden | Hi people! Id love to announce that on sunday, CS will be hosting a Flag Creation competition. If you participate, you will be tasked with creating a flag for our humble region! You may notice the new channel in the bastion, this is where your flag submissions will go. Depending on the amounts of submissions, we will show off flags on Sunday/Monday. Winner of the competition gets to have their flag represent our region for two days! Even if you dont know much about flags, we still encourage you to give it a shot. Tenurium and I love flags, and i'll speak for myself saying that I'd love to give any needed advice. If you're feeling shy, Ten has posted a dispatch on NS ( The basic principles and rules of flagmaking: Format: The vast majority of flags are square, and NS is generally optimized for square flags. Therefore, entries should also be kept square shaped. Simplicity: Flags are supposed to be identifiable at a glance. Using too many elements will result in superfluous clutter and make the flag as whole harder to read and less aesthetically pleasing. Colours: Limit yourself to two primary colours in order to not make the flag overly complex. A third one can be used for accents, but more are generally considered excessive. Additionally, use contrasting colours, usually a combination of darker and lighter tones, while keeping it easy on the eyes by avoiding to stark a contrast. Symbolism: Symbols hold meaning, and as such, power. A lot of symbols are representative of certain ideologies or areas. If not consciously trying to evoke their ideas, do not use these symbols. Equally, try using meaningful symbolism. Even the most basic flag designs, like tricolors, stand for something, frequently features of the nation they represent. The goal of a flag is not just to look nice, but to also communicate what it represents, and using fitting imagery will not only make the flag easier to read, but also more unique. Heraldry: Coats of arms and other related symbols are typically avoided in flag making due to their complexity and the idea of nations supplanting the things these symbols stand for, effectively making them outdated. Because of Caer Sidis medieval setting however, using coats of arms is an appropriate way of adding symbolism to a flag. Text: Text has next to no place in flag design, despite some real flags utilizing it. Flags are about communicating an idea or message through composition and imagery alone, and using text undermines that. It also simply doesn´t look very appealing. ) Of course rules apply, no fascist rhetoric/symbolism and all the things youd expect from CS, but also please dont use copyrighted things.
