As the purpose of the operation in Volinovia slowly turned into a futile and costly effort, the Liberal Party urged the Prime Minister to withdraw from southeast Volinovia. Meanwhile, the Conservative Party - the de facto opposition - wanted to strengthen the military presence in the region, effectively bringing it closer to the nation's sphere of influence. In the long run, Estandé might receive some land. The Prime Minister, of course, leaned towards the Liberal Party and believed that the conservatives were just there to mess up the already unstable relationship with the Volinovian Republic. As one of the most powerful political parties, however, the Prime Minister had a compromise; slowly withdraw from Volinovia and focus their attention on the border towns. The Volinovians in the southeast would see the expeditionary forces leave, which meant leaving the towns undefended.

Forgot to mention Volinovia.
