Does anyone have any advice for writing an economic factbook? I don't so much mean figuring out the raw numbers or the main industries, I've done that bit. I'm finding hard to write any actual detail to it. Right now it may as well as to be a bullet point list of numbers and industries.
I feel you on that. My suggestion is to look at wikipedia articles and how other people in TWI have written there's. It can give you a good idea of a format to write in
Yeah economy can be something difficult to flesh out - especially when you're not trying to make it just a wall of numbers. I don't think this is a problem people really need to address until they get deep into writing about their nation and then they can kinda see better how the economy fits into everything else they've set up. It's a nice to have, but beyond economy statistics there's not a lot of need to immediately go into detail. Putting that aside for a minute, here's some things you could do to add detail to an economy factbook.
a) talk more about your businesses b) talk about your statistics with reference to geographic areas - are some parts of the nation richer than others, are some industries more prolific in particular parts of the nation? that kind of thing. c) talk about processes like urbanisation and globalisation and how they've effected your economy d) or, my personal favourite, talk about various government policies to do with your economy (aka does your government try to keep the currency lower or higher relative to other nations, do they try to dampen growth, what do they do in a recession...), talk a bit about trade, economic organisations you're a part of and more broadly the agreements you've signed to do with your economy (at the expense of your foreign affairs factbook) d) make an 'economic history' section where you talk about your history in light of the economy (aka depressions, recessions, boom times... the various ways in which your economy has shifted and changed over time... so industries rising and falling and that kinda stuff) e) if you are really desperate you could probably talk about industrial relations reform too and the industrial relations system in general.
Created a new overview Factbook for just the Kingdom of Wellsia (large island). Hope to finish the rest before the weekend. nation=wellsia/detail=factbook/id=1532028
Pretty good actually! I recommend to just write history that don't involve anything outside your nation and try not to involve any real life countries. You could work out history with other nations on the map later when you're in it
I mean, like when you asked this from me, my response is still going to basically be the same. It's too small to be either good or a fail.
Something worth mentioning though is that it's very disconnected in a way. We have no idea what happened before, so dropping us to what seems to be a rebellion is a bad idea. Others don't know why the rebellion happened, who did it, why they specifically did it and all the other spicy questions.
