Giver of life,
we entrust this region to Your loving care.

You are the rock on which this region was founded.
You alone are the true source of their cherished rights to life,
liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Reclaim this land for Your glory and dwell among Your people.

Send Your Spirit to touch the hearts of this region´s leaders.
Open their minds to the great worth of human life
and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom.
Remind Your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking
and doing Your will.

Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate,
Patroness of our land,
grant them the courage to reject the "culture of death."
Lead them into a new millennium of life.

Peace and All Good! Today is the start of the Dormition Fast.

In giving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition, you did not leave the world, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death.

A reading from the book of Ecclesiastes

More bitter than death I find the woman who is a hunter's trap, whose heart is a snare, whose hands are prison bonds. The one who pleases God will be delivered from her, but the one who displeases will be entrapped by her. See, this have I found, says Qoheleth, adding one to one to find the sum. What my soul still seeks and has yet to find is this: "One man out of a thousand have I found, but a woman among them all I have not found." But this alone I have found: God made humankind honest, but they have pursued many designs.

Thanks be to God.

Reflection:

I do not want to scandalize people, but I want also to consider the question: "What entraps us?" Spiritually speaking, what keeps us from gaining the grace of God? And this is the message of the Dormition Fast and every other fasting season that the mother Church offered for our sake. What keeps us from God? How do we connect ourselves and draw closer to Him?

Spiritually we can get dry, and the Lord says "To the thirsty I will give a gift from the spring of life-giving water." (Rev. 21:6) So this season, Mother Church encourages us to once again be at Lent; to slow down and recalibrate and come back to God through prayer, penance, and charity.

※ The Dormition Fast is highly encouraged and voluntary and not enforced in anyway by the Church.

Let us pray.

O God, who, looking on the lowliness of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
raised her to this grace,
that your Only Begotten Son was born of her according to the flesh
and that she was crowned this day with surpassing glory,
grant through her prayers,
that, saved by the mystery of your redemption,
we may merit to be exalted by you on high.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark

When the sabbath was over, Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices with which to go and anoint him. And very early in the morning on the first day of the week they went to the tomb, just as the sun was rising.

They had been saying to one another, ‘Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?’ But when they looked they could see that the stone – which was very big – had already been rolled back. On entering the tomb they saw a young man in a white robe seated on the right-hand side, and they were struck with amazement. But he said to them, ‘There is no need for alarm. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified: he has risen, he is not here. See, here is the place where they laid him. But you must go and tell his disciples and Peter, “He is going before you to Galilee; it is there you will see him, just as he told you.”’ And the women came out and ran away from the tomb because they were frightened out of their wits; and they said nothing to a soul, for they were afraid…

Having risen in the morning on the first day of the week, Jesus appeared first to Mary of Magdala, from whom he had cast out seven devils. She then went to those who had been his companions, and who were mourning and in tears, and told them. But they did not believe her when they heard her say that he was alive and that she had seen him.

After this, he showed himself under another form to two of them as they were on their way into the country. These went back and told the others, who did not believe them either.

Lastly, he showed himself to the Eleven themselves while they were at table. He reproached them for their incredulity and obstinacy, because they had refused to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. And he said to them, ‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; he who does not believe will be condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast out devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover.’

And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven: there at the right hand of God he took his place, while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it.

Reflection: It is truly a great day! Peter said to Jesus in the Gospel today at mass "Lord, it is good for us to be here." In the same way, as Christ has risen from the dead, so it is good for us to be alive when the salvation had come to the world.

It is great for us to be here, but it should never end on that. It is great and after a while the passion and death would come, would that still be great? Instead, we must keep the fire burning; the fire of devotion as Saint Francis de Sales said, "Devotion sweetens the martyrdom of the saints". And this is the very purpose of the Transfiguration, that man may see the divinity of Jesus (who is wholly God and man) and have hope. With the Resurrection, we have greater hope that with Jesus we overcome the world. Sometimes we would truly be obstinate about our despair, that happens by our weakness, and the apostles too share in this humanity of ours. But Jesus rebuked them, so must we in the moments of softness rebuke ourselves too.

A bible quote I have been pondering for a while from Saint Paul was, "provided that wesuffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him." With great devotion, let us seek not the world, but the promise of the Resurrection, and in turn Transfiguration that we may be of above and not perishable. Let us pray for monks whom make this hard journey.

Today is also the feast of God the Father of All Mankind. It was requested to be held on the first Sunday of August, or on the seventh day of August through private revelation. I have been reading the revelation and truly all I can say is that God loves us more than we can imagine. As the song says, "Tell the world of His Love," we must be inflamed to teach, preach, and spread the Gospel if not in words then in living. If not, the least we can do is stop sinning and be charity.

Let us pray.

God our Father,
in the transfigured glory of Christ your Son,
you strengthen our faith
by confirming the witness of your prophets,
and show us the splendor of your beloved sons and daughters.
As we listen to the voice of your Son,
help us to become heirs to eternal life with him
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Thus says the LORD:

Their descendants shall be renowned among the nations,
and their offspring among the peoples;
All who see them shall acknowledge them
as a race the LORD has blessed.

I rejoice heartily in the LORD,
in my God is the joy of my soul;
For he has clothed me with a robe of salvation,
and wrapped me in a mantle of justice,
Like a bridegroom adorned with a diadem,
like a bride bedecked with her jewels.
As the earth brings forth its plants,
and a garden makes its growth spring up,
So will the Lord GOD make justice and praise
spring up before all the nations.

Reflection:

Today is the memorial of the Queenship of Mary and my parish is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. We had an exhibition of her images in a chapel and as I was looking at her images, I saw her feet, bare but with a (golden) rose. She had no sandals or wrappings or anything that could protect her feet, she remained it bare.

I think this is important to consider because it reveals the many things about Mary. She is simple, humble, and grounded upon the earth. She is willing to accept the pain of soil and those of hard rocks. At the same time, she embraces the fullness of the earth that she may bring all to God.

The presiding priest on the mass I went to today spoke that Mary desires not these things—her immaculate conception, her assumption and her coronation as queen,—instead they are only a gift from God. Mary isn't one to want our own devotions, our own praises, even the Church's canonical coronation of her image, they are only thanks for the many graces she bestows for us from Jesus.

She wants not sandals to protect her feet nor a flower to adorn her. She desires only that the salvation of man is realized.

And in her queenship, she is not queen that must be served. Like her Son, she is queen of service. She is the gate of heaven, a morning star, our hope, refuge, attendant. To quote from the supplicatory canon, "O blessed Maid." The presider said, she became our servant because of the many graces and favours we ask of her. Most of the time, we have no wine, and we go to Mary. And we, grateful and loyal attendants of the Immaculata, like that time in the wedding must also "do as He says," He who is her Son.

This is the beauty of Mary. The beauty of God's love for a woman unknown, unimportant in the eyes of the world, but exalted because of God's love.

Let us pray.

Father,
you have given us the mother of your Son
to be our queen and mother.
With the support of her prayers
may we come to share the glory of your children
in the kingdom of heaven.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Peace and All Good!

Blessed Feast of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, Virgin and Doctor of the Church.

You reveal the secrets of your kingdom to those who become like little children. Among them you chose St Thérèse, hidden in Christ, to proclaim the good news of merciful love. (from the preface of the Eucharistic Prayer for Saint Therese)

In the name of the Father, ✠
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit,
𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗻.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

In the early Church, saints are clearly visible in the graces that pour from them. The martyrs, wonderworkers, and ascetics who lived a life that almost is impossible for our weak human flesh. And it may seem that it is also our calling to do great things, it leads to an error where we focus on what "we can/should do" rather than "what God can make us do". God does not ask for great things, and there is nothing ever great that we can do that fits God's majesty and glory. But God in His infinite love and being Love accepts each of our offerings not because we have something to give but because we give.

Saint Therese made this her doctoral thesis where she sought to find out the shortest way we can walk. She was not learned as the greatest theologians of her time were, nor did she have access to great theological works as well (I think not even the Old Testament). But through prayer and willingness to pursue virtue God gave her the answer to the Little Way.

Her Little Way can be summed up into three virtues, "Humility, Simplicity, and Charity." She was the most unknown among her sisters, and at times teased or bullied. She showed no retaliation, and when she feels she wants to lash out she runs away for a little while and comes back when her emotions have settled. This is the mark of the monks and ascetics whom spent years trying to pursue, to truly control her passions. Her Little Way is simple, yet deeply grounded in the gospel that even the greatest of theologians have not yet written about. Not that they wrote wrongly about the greatest articles of our faith, but maybe by inspiration of the Holy Spirit reserved the writing of ascetical theology to Saint Therese. And when a dying sister asked for her prayers, she showed great faith in God but never forgetting upon her own lowliness called upon God's mercy because God loves each one of us and desires for our immediate communion with Him in heaven. She showed greater trust in God's mercy like a child, and much more than a child, the same way the patriarchs have shown faith in God.

Saint Therese gave her yes to Jesus when He said "Take my yoke ... For my yoke is easy, and my burden light" "Love does not consist in the pursuit of great things," as Mother Teresa said, "But small things with great love". And Saint Therese pursued the smallest tasks of her convent not because she has a duty but because she made it her duty. The priest we went to mass emphasized, "This is only what was written in her autobiography. How much more could it be that have not been written?"

So, church bells ring forth in praise, Saint Therese joined the company of the Saints and Angels and most important of all her Beloved; doing greater love for humanly lesser things, being unknown in her little convent in Liseux but most well known to God and now throughout the whole world and the Church.

May the prayers of Saint Therese along with those of our Mother Mary always keep us ever in God's company.

Again and again let us pray.

God of love,
you have promised your kingdom
to those who are willing to become like little children.
Help us to follow the way of Saint Theresa with confidence
so that by her prayers
we may come to know your eternal glory.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." He then said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." [Jesus] said to him, "Feed my sheep.Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, "Follow me."

Reflection:

Normally we get caught up in the world. And by the weakness of my own I say that I have been procrastinating on my tasks. But this led me to realize this isn't right but I can't seem to fight it. Jesus asked if we love Him more than "these" the meal Jesus gave them, which represented the world and all temporal. In application to my own lives, to feed the lambs, sheep and to tend to them is not just socially to others, but on ourselves first.

These we do through the acquisition of virtues and the constant reception of the sacraments from whom God's grace flows in a clear view. And speaking of virtue, we must also learn to love and embrace our crosses. When I get started on my task, I feel this overwhelming dread, anguish, and sluggishness that I do not want to do it. Then I remembered how Jesus might have done with the cross, embracing it (like in the Passion of Christ movie) and glorifying God amidst being hurt all around.

I want to share this hoping it might help. That constantly we must be reminded of the Passion of Christ, His love for mankind that lead to His death and Resurrection. And it is not easy to guide others, so firstly we must guide ourselves. As Saint Teresa of Avila did in reforming Carmel.

Again and again, in peace let us pray to the Lord.

Father, we thank you for another Sunday where we share in Your loving embrace in celebrating Your Son's paschal mystery. Teach us, through the example of Saint Teresa of Avila the virtues by Your graces we wish to acquire. Especially the virtue of humility, purity, charity, and temperance.

These we ask in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke:

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘See that you are dressed for action and have your lamps lit. Be like men waiting for their master to return from the wedding feast, ready to open the door as soon as he comes and knocks. Happy those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. I tell you solemnly, he will put on an apron, sit them down at table and wait on them. It may be in the second watch he comes, or in the third, but happy those servants if he finds them ready. You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what hour the burglar would come, he would not have let anyone break through the wall of his house. You too must stand ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.’

Reflection:

Who is in our hearts? In another gospel verse, Jesus speaks about where our hearts are, there also our treasure. What we love occupies our entire being. As Christians, importantly as Catholics, it is important that our hearts are directed towards God in all things. God in all things, and be totally His. Because God made us, and God did all the effort to bring us back to Him. Saint Augustine writes in his confessions that our hearts are restless until they rest in God.

One day, Jesus will come back to ask us to follow Him into heaven. And what we have built for ourselves, what habits we have set our hearts while we live determines our answer. A total and complete yes, as the saints have did (even to the point of martyrdom, physically or spiritually) made Jesus smile and led them to heaven. A yes, although partial and still holding on to the earth, as the souls are, made the waters of mercy flow from His Most Sacred Heart and led them to purgatory that their yes, their holiness may be perfect; our weakness be supplied. A total rejection of God, in pursuit of the things of this world (especially those that harm others and inspire hatred, discord, and animality) led the poorest of the poor sinners to hell.

Our decision starts now, at least, we start building them up now. All of us, except two born in this world, are weak and sinful in nature and that is true. We then must not despair, because despair is pride and pride is yuck. We must hope, because we belong not to ourselves but to God. God can transform us and not any other man or machine, only God. We are subject to none but God so our hope is in God because God is already loving. I remember watching a preacher and he said, "If we fail, God already wins." Let us imitate the virtue of abandonment and charity to God as we walk on our pilgrimage.

Faithfully, let us wait for the Lord. Again and again, in peace let us pray to the Lord.

All-powerful God,
increase our strength of will for doing good
that Christ may find an eager welcome at his coming
and call us to his side in the kingdom of heaven,
where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

May the Prince of Peace, reign in our hearts. Amen.

In the name of the Father, ✠
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke

At that time, as Jesus was speaking to the multitudes, a certain woman from the crowd lifted up her voice and said to Him, Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts that nursed You. But He said, Rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God and keep it.

Reflection:

Everyone is born with Original Sin except Mary and Jesus. Since Original Sin or Ancestral sin is passed down and inherited by everyone, Mary couldn't have original sin that she might not pass it on to Jesus. This is a grace and privilege so beautiful and fitting for the Mother. I love imagining this as the best Mother's Day gift God could give. A soul so beautiful it's like whiter than marble or purer and clearer than water; unstained. In an unstained soul, a soul in a state of grace, God's grace flows easily and His presence is stronger. We achieve this state of grace when we are baptized or when we confessed our sins correctly. Our souls are pure and white and clear.

What does it mean, then, for us who are stained with original sin? We are perverted with the idea of wanting God's creation for ourselves. Original sin, the knowledge of good and evil made us crave selfishly for things and not for God. This is called concupiscence by Saint Augustine which is the disorderly desire to want. And this is the origin of sin where we desire for something we perceive as pleasing but intrinsically evil.

Then to Mary, God poured out grace by grace to a woman and her response was to cooperate with that grace; because God gave us free will. And the beauty of the fall from Eden is that although we have disordered desire to everything, we still can choose God. We fall, we rise up, we learn, we avoid. Mary could've experienced temptations, Mary might've not. But if God did permit temptation, first of all I assume she would just let it pass. For example when Jesus died, she might (or might not) be led into despair but she held into hope of the Resurrection holding firmly on trust to the Father's plan, remembering her Son's words, cooperating with the Holy Spirit.

This we must imitate in the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Again and again, in peace, let us pray to the Lord.

Father,
the image of the Virgin is found in the Church.
Mary had a faith that your Spirit prepared
and a love that never knew sin,
for you kept her sinless
from the first moment of her conception.
Trace in our actions the lines of her love,
in our hearts her readiness of faith.
Prepare once again a world for your Son
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

and of the Son,

Not by granting us unbroken sunshine,
But by keeping our face bright, even in the shadows;
Not by making our life always pleasant,

Gracious God,
Today begins a period of inner reflection and examination.
The days stretch before me and invite me inward to that silent, holy space that holds your Spirit.
This special time beckons me to see my life through Christ's eyes and the truth and reality of your love incarnate.
Give me the grace to enter the space of these days with anticipation of our meeting. And, when I open my soul to your presence, let your loving kindness flow over me and seep into the pockets of my heart.
I ask this for the sake of your love.
Amen.
