Expansion 19/Asheville Aching

Commissar Samuel Palmer of the Commissariat of the United Prefectural Protectorate hummed lowly as the distant sounds of battle reached his ears, the chattering cracks of machine guns and the whoomphs of mortars a discordant, wailing chorus to his nameless song. Judging by the look of his aide, Samuel was being less than subtle in his appreciation of the musical accompaniment to his dirge for the dead and general nonchalant attitude to the ongoing operation. Frankly, Daniel was a bit of a hard*ss in his opinion who really needed to get laid and stop his blatant sycophancy with the General Secretariat's bureaucrats. Bad enough his reports were overly and unnecessarily lengthy, they were also downright boring and mostly the same drivel with some words changed to fit different provinces, which themselves were barely described. Not that Samuel would tell him that, it would just make him stare menacingly at his back and mumble increasingly malicious things to himself under his breath, as well as writing negative things about him. For whatever, the Protector thought that Daniel was abjectly hilarious and competent, so Samuel could not sack him for an aide who did not threaten dire threats under his breath at the slightest criticism.

Records of Aide Daniel Smith/Slight Editing by Commissar Palmer

The Asheville Operation-Operation Angry Molerat-involved the 1st Protector Unit and the united raiders of the province of Asheville-the Ashburners, of all names they went with-who had consolidated into a semi-cohesive gang beneath a singular leader-the supposed Arch-Arsonist-who had managed to force the local settlements into compliance, as tenuous as that proved to be. Ruling by fear-and a downright fetishistic embracing of pyromania-, the Ashburners brutally lorded over the settlers and mutilated anyone who dared to raise a hand to them-their weapons were very easily repurposed for branding...-. Vanguard elements found that the people of the province were all too willing to rise up if given the opportunity, albeit refusing flatly to not take part in the operation itself so as to minimize their casualties. Thanks to tribute caravans, the various strongholds of the Ashburners were well known and easily located, with the largest and greatest being inside a hotel named the Foundry, well named given the smoke stacks and thick plumes of billowing smog. However, the Ashburners had by now become very aware of the oncoming threat and had prepared accordingly, launching an all-out assault against their now openly revolting tributaries and the Arch-Arsonist personally vowing via a radio broadcast to burn the whole of Asheville to the ground for its treachery. Thus did the whole of Asheville plunge into a cauldron of fire and blood, with the Protectors forced into a battle they had never before encountered.

Rare was the battle where the Protectors did not overwhelmingly win the battle for maneuvering and in Asheville, that inexperience would come back with a vengeance, as the Ashburners outright abandoned many of their strongholds to maraud the region and attack the various settlements within it. Many of these settlements would fall to the fury of the pyromaniacs, their inhabitants put to the sword or burned alive, with their Protector defenders dying to the flames. Yet their war was always one of momentum and once that began to slow, the Ashburners began to crumble, as Protector marksmen and vanguard cadres cut down their leadership in droves and their supplies began to reach the bottom of the barrel. The Arch-Arsonist, still alive despite the best efforts of the Protectors, summoned to him every Ashburner alive who could reach him and prepared for the mother of all sieges, as the noose tightened around the Foundry. Enraged at the costs of the operation, Commissar Palmer prepared his artillery batteries to shatter the defensive structures of the Foundry and prepared his elite assault sections for the grim task of excising the insane defenders from the ruins. In the end, the Arch-Arsonist did not go quietly, armored as he was in custom fitted power armor and belching flame and smoke like a living furnace with his flaming blade, perishing to a well placed rocket in the back and having his own blade punched through his throat by a certain ensign.

The Caesar's Legion of The Rising Solaris

The White Buffalo Clan, pt. 3
Marcus Longinius had taken over as the Praetor of Boise City after his compatriot, Lucullus Pompeius, had successfully conquered Oklahoma and moved his command to Oklahoma City. Now it was Longinius who had been handed the unenviable task of defending Boise City from Middle and keeping Oklahoma from being cut off by the barbati. Though he did have three normal-sized cohorts to work with, at least.

It was easily apparent to Longinius that there was something he could do to help his mission: Finish off the White Buffalo clan by taking Amarillo. Securing both his southern border and a secure southern route for logistics would enable the Legion to keep supply lines open to Oklahoma even if Boise City fell. Amarillo would also provide a secure base from which to conquer the rest of that mythical land known as Texas...

Unfortunately, this would be easier said than done. Though the White Buffalo Clan had been decimated at Dalhart, they had since rebuilt their strength from Osage warriors that had managed to escape the enslavement and evade the Cherokee and the Legion's patrols. Their numbers had swelled, practically becoming a whole tribe of their own. According to rumors, Red Sun had taken to calling himself the King of the Osage and was swearing vengeance against the Legion.

Longinius had to smile. This "King" will never stand a chance against the servants of the Son of Mars.

The Praetor laid out his plans one hot spring morning. A cohort, supported by a small contingent of Cherokee auxilia, would move south to the ruins of Shamrock, once upon a time a small town sitting on the confluence of Route 66 and Highway 83. Now it was little more than a stabling for bands of Osage. Longinius' plans called for a cohort to move into the town and fortify it so they could use it for a flanking maneuver when the time finally came to assault Amarillo.

Speculatores reported that the town was mostly abandoned. The Ninth Cohort left immediately, 620 men escorted by 300 Cherokee auxilia. It took a week to march there, covering 15 miles a day over a distance of approximately 90 miles. The town was still abandoned when they arrived, and they set about fortifying it, setting up the encampments, and establishing a perimeter.

Their work did not go unnoticed by the Osage, however. Three days after their arrival they were set upon by a band of 1,000 Osage riders intent on driving them out. Unlike in Boise City where they had attempted to siege out the Legion, the White Buffaloes intended to assault the town using a new weapon - mortars. From somewhere the Osage had procured a number of M2 Mortars that they had mounted on buggies and wagons. Shortly before the attack began, they fired ten mortar rounds into the incomplete fortifications. A massive cavalry charge followed immediately after the rounds had made their impact.

To their credit, the Legionaries held their ground, and the Osage attack was repulsed with heavy losses. The Celerii then led a counterattack that hit the enemy line on the left flank, dealing heavy casualties and almost breaking them before withdrawing. The Osage tried again with a mortar barrage and a second charge that was beaten back just like the first one. This time, when the Celerii counter-attacked, they managed to break the flank and inflict severe casualties. With the flank gone, and with the infantry cohort showing no signs of breaking of their own, the Osage commander called for a withdrawal. The Osage retreated from the town, dragging their mortars with them.

Shamrock was secure, for the moment, the Primus in charge doubtful that the Osage would try again so soon. Now all that remained was to actually take Amarillo for the Legion.

While clearing out some of the ruins for tent sites (and building materials), Legionaries uncovered some technical documents related to manufacturing and factory construction. The documents were forwarded to Colorado Springs for the artisans to look over.

The Thestral Union of FreeAmericanStates

FreeAmericanStates wrote:Liberation of Everglades (The Floridan Unification Campaign Part 3)
Following the annexation of Fort Myers it became clear at least to the south did not have the same threat that they accounted back in Tampa, which while normally the New American Army would focus on the rest of the hostiles they first encountered the President made it clear that they need to focus on the reunification first following an order after quested on why the president responded stating "Firstly, I am the Commander and Chief of the New American Army as the President, As well as served along side the New Continental Army so I know this from experience forcing the enemy into a situation is where their back is to the sea well is always a better option as it forces a last stand to permanently remove them as a threat. Furthermore, even if those hostiles are out there if we manage to unite with the rest of the south excluding their main bases then they will be trapped against the sea where we can ensure they never rise up again as a threat." The military leaders were somewhat shocked that was the response as that was a legitimately good reason based on stone cold military experience. Subsequently the New American Army did march south towards Everglades City or as it was known after the bombs the Everglades do to the damage done to the city proper but, the outskirts of the old city became the new de-facto city of the Everglades. However, the way this new city worked was by sending out bands of groups to the surrounding countryside and forcing farming settlements to give them food. This was made clear after New American Army scouts came towards the farming settlements and asking about what happened to the Everglades to cause this and apparently its been like this since the war. Apparently, the Everglades lost all security and had been forced to live in fear of the Outskirts. After double and triple checking with other settlements thee New American Army decided to take it upon themselves to deal with the Outskirts as from they heard it became clearly operating in the same exact way raiders operate even if it was longer lasting. The New American Army started the liberation by snipping guards to Outskirts and then breaching the walls of the Outskirts following this it became a rat hunt through it and fighting all hostiles who put up any resistance. Luckily however the Outskirts was only about a few hundred and able to be dealt with by the much more numerous New American forces. Shortly after pioneers were taken and then the settlements were informed they were freed and that the New American Republic offers them membership to help allow them to govern themselves under a proper goverment rather then being subjected by a de-facto raider state.
The New American Republic has gained 1600 population from this liberation.

Liberty Does not Come Cheap (The Floridan Unification Campaign Part 4)
The New American Republic had the New American Army prepare for the march south to liberate Miami. As the former city being taken would not only secure valuable prewar supplies but more importunately follow the Prime Directive of the New American Republic of spreading law and order first and foremost by bringing discipline into the wasteland. But the trouble was this is Miami a city that has since after the bombs have the biggest set of tragedy known in the wasteland at least in the south. Miami was once a city of immigrates specifically of Cubans who fled from communist oppression by the tyrannical Chinese or Soviet puppet state called the Republic of Cuba a brutal regime that ruled over its population with a communist iron first. Unfortunately, after the bombs things changed the mostly Cuban residents who had survived the bombs turned into ghouls but even worse had been forced by circumstances into becoming raiders and took over the surrounding area of the city and turned into a Fiefdom of their own. However, the Republic had established a long case of history and order for the military regarding current raiders on a shoot to kill basses which while normally benevolent has led to an awkward situation for the Republic in its values. Could the Republic commit genocide on the sole remnants of Cuban Americans something fundamentally against its values of Life and Nationalism do to their fundamental history within the culture of Florida and America as a whole or could the Republic betray its fundamental values of both liberty and security by allowing the raiders to continue operating as they are destroying the liberty of fellow Americans living under tyranny furthermore it is in the best interest of the Republic. A rather awkward compromise was made involving what to do with them within the Republic's goverment on attempt to arrest all of this raider gang possible but to also defend themselves with lethal force as needed. So rather then the executions by military personal against raiders all without a trial or even a military tribunal the military will have to capture them as do to the Republic's need for per war information involving both technology and some secrete project related to the island of Cuba, the Republic can not allow any unnecessary deaths on the account of this raider group do to their status as Pre War ghouls, the fact they are Cuban Americans only makes it more convenient for a rather bold plan for a likely future administration or a second term of the current administration for the Republic that is firmly confidential until after Floridan unification and near by regions are secured. But regardless, the New American Army took up positions for sniping main guards of the patrols and senteries and then breached the city and then a rather an unfortunate situation happened the New American Army had to begin a slow door to door campaign to capture any and all Ghoul raiders possible while regular non ghoul raiders who joined were shot on sight. After hours and an unfortunately rather high casualty count do to being for the first time not allowed to use full capabilities the military force normally has. However, at the end the main administrative center the raiders used to control the Fiefdom was seized and surrendered after a day of being seized.
The New American Republic has gained 1500 population and 100 Pre War Raider Ghoul Prisoners from this invasion.

The Other End
While the Victory of the Lake was a resounding success, suspicion began to brew between Mazaltan and Durango. The Socialist system of Soviet Mexico is completely incompatible with the oligarchic Council. Rumors circulated that the Barons will back out of the deal, their most imminent threat neutered.

Motivated by uncertainty, the Republic decided to move first. Not long after the guns go silent over Lake Manor, boots marched down the boulevards of Durango, flying the battle flag of the SFSR. Leading them is 2nd Regimental Commandant, Hermann Oscar. He has come to take the Soviets’ part of the deal: annexation. The Council... was surprised, but not shocked. They know it’s coming, they just didn’t think it’ll be so quickly.

“Since our socialist system is incompatible with your oligarchy” Hermann stated, “We will give you an offer. Resist, and die, or relinquish all your private assets to the Mazatlan government. You will be appointed as military commanders, and your troops will serve the nation, not you.” They balked at his points and demeanor. Calm and polite, but they can tell he isn’t joking around. In the meantime, men of the 2nd and 3rd infantry regiments of the Mexican Red Army has surrounded the barracks and stables, preventing a breakout by the individual charros. Machine guns are brought upon the rooftops of nearby buildings, pointing squarely at the bases. A hundred or so managed to hop onto their steed and flee into the countryside, but they are few.

Unable to do any other course of action, the Council of Durango officially surrendered it’s sovereignty to the Mexican Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. What followed was a massive restructuring of... Well, basically every system. A temporary provincial council is picked from the best and brightest of the area, with Sinaloan supervisors. The old estates of the barons were carved up into grazing grounds for new collectives, replacing the old individual farmsteads. Official taxation was introduced, and the funds were used to install a basic healthcare system and expand education.

The biggest thing of all though, are the charros. These are horsemen serving their barons, like how knights served a lord in the far past. They were bound to their master, not to some frivolous idea of a nation. This makes them a potential liability, and most within the government advocated for their disbandment as soon as possible. After they’ve trained loyal troops their craft, of course. The target of this is a new generation of charros, one serving the Republic, not individual bosses.

With the Diktat growing across Mexico, it is in need of better methods of transportation, other than walking. While horses did fine before, the resources had finally opened up for the real possibility of making something new: trains. Old fashioned trains by pre war standards, melicles of engineering by today’s, being able to carry thousands of tons of resources and equipment without stopping, all while going at 75 MPH, would be a massive boon to the Diktat logistical network, especially at this early stage. Thus, the diktat begins this massive public works project across every corner of their lands, which will one day spread across all of mexico.

Expansion 20/Murphy Megalomania

Commissar Samuel Palmer of the Commissariat of the United Prefectural Protectorate was getting distinctly irritated by the general behavior of this latest entry in the list of provinces he had overseen the annexation of. Murphy was, by all accounts given by traders, a small, quiet and prosperous province free from much of the same chaos and anarchy that had set in across what used to be the state of North Carolina. Samuel was initially amused to find such an island of calm in a sea of turmoil, but his amusement faded when the Protectors arrived and the diplomatic mission began, for the very reasons that made Murphy so attractive to the Protectorate were the same reasons they were thus far disinclined to joining the Protectorate. Generally, settlements were lining up to join the Protectorate when there were raiders at their gates, but it seemed that was not the case when the worst threat they had to deal with was the occasional mutant attack. Not to mention they were even more hesitant given just how extensively the General Secretariat wanted to interfere in their lives and the diplomats were frankly getting nowhere, so Samuel was going to handle this personally with his own brand of diplomacy. That was why the gathered leaders of the various settlements, sitting at a table with him, had the opportunity to hear straight from the devil's mouth that not joining the Protectorate was unacceptable and just why they should reconsider their choices.

Records of Aide Daniel Smith

The Murphy Operation was marked by diplomatic skirmishes rather than military ones and saw a noticeable straining of the Diplomatic Bureau in that they utterly failed to convince the various settlements to join with the United Prefectural Protectorate. To be fair, until then, never before had such a peaceful province been encountered and the diplomats were unused to settlements not under siege by raiders or mutants who would line up to join the Protectorate. The issue got so bad and pressing that they practically begged the Commissar to intervene, which he did so with characteristic bluntness. Frankly, directly telling the gathered leaders of the province that the Protectorate was not giving them a choice in the matter of them joining or not and bluntly laying out their chances against the gathered strength of nearly reunified North Carolina was a...curious method. That the leaders did not storm out of the meeting could only be given to the straightforward nature of the Commissar being well known and that they agreed to even continue talks could only be given to the grace of God. Of course, by then, they knew the talks were just formalities by this point and acquiesced to the diplomat's terms, all of them.

Tenas River
With more expansion comes with a more demanding populus, as the simple staple foods of the wasteland have become well supplied in Union markets. Now the call for more varied food-stuffs came along with the demand for more land for plantations, as more people began looking to grow the old crops that were staple goods of the southern export. As most land within the union was devoted to staple goods. Though there was plenty around the territory claimed by the union, the prime real estate along the Mississippi river was in more demand thanks to the ease of transport and other logistics.

So a small detachment was sent up into the Tenas river asn told to secure the area, along with bringing the small homesteads in the area into the union. With little in the way of major settlements the small population was scattered through the land. So the more simple job was to set up camp to keep most of the unwanted elements out. So the regiment went out towards the small abandoned town of Monroe and set up in the town’s civic center, creating camp Monroe. Now with a presence the locals were quite happy to have the roving patrols to ensure law and order.

Bayou Bartholomew
Further to the north of the Tenas River layd another open area for farming. vThe wild land of Bartholomew Bayou. Long abandoned to the wildlife of Yao Guai and other feral species, it is only populated in the small town of Lake Village along the Mississippi. Still populated by the descendants of the original towns people, its only kept afloat by the small amount of farming they do along with trading with the passing caravans. Though they had become besieged by the large amount of wildlife that has begun to encroach on the small town. Enough that with help they would gladly join anyone willing to help them fend the animals off.

Having sent a force of 500 into the area to help have a more controlled animal population, it took some time for the Union forces to actually put a dent into the surrounding wildlife. With some more daring soldiers having fallen to the serious threat and the only experienced hunters being the Couriers, the forces had little to do but drive off waves for the beginning. After the animals had moved away from the town the army made groups lead by Couriers to hunt down the remaining packs of wildlife. Once that was completed the town was very happily joining the union.

Mortar and Pestle
The reports of the Osage utilizing wagon-mounted mortars has finally made its way back to the Legate in Colorado, and the idea intrigues him. He hadn't considered mortars before; they would certainly provide an interim solution to the problem of indirect fire while he figured out a way to make long-range artillery strikes work without killing his own men in the process. The idea that they could be mounted on the back of a horse-drawn vehicle, like one of his chariots, meant that they could even be utilized with more cavalry-heavy forces.

With this in mind, the Praefectus Castrorum has ordered 100 mortars from the Colorado Springs Artisan Guilds. Utilizing schematics recovered from a nearby pre-war depot, the artisans got straight to work building what had once been known as the M2 Mortar, though in Legion service it would be known as the Vespula. The Legion has also tasked its own blacksmiths with fashioning 50 more chariots to which to mount the mortars as part of the Legate's experiments with more mobile heavy weaponry, capable of keeping up with cavalry units.

Lookouts spot the Courier and his merry band of robots coming from a mile away, and the Century jumps into action. The ones with the anti-Materiel rifles (10) rush out to start taking shots at the armored behemoths while the remainder of the century readies the explosives. The situation is grim, they do not expect to win, but they will take down as many of the Securitrons as they can.

One Legion sniper draws a bead on the Courier, takes a deep breath, exhales, and pulls the trigger...

Cottonwood Cove

The Courier marches forward as the three-hundred Securitrons storm forward, unleashing their multitude of weapons against the Legion forces. As the Courier marches forward among the sea of Securitrons, the Legion sniper's bullet strikes him, and he collapses to the ground. The Courier's vision was blurred and his hearing was muffled as he reached to the side of his head where the bullet carved a path right across the right side of his face. The Courier could feel the flesh missing and the blood pouring down his face. Even through the pain, he smiles. 'Third time's a charm,' he thinks to himself. It is the third time a bullet has left its mark on the Courier's head. Keeping down, the Courier scrambles to cover as the Securitrons continue their assault. Taking a peek, the Courier notices the sniper's position. Turning to two nearby Securitrons, he gives an order, "Bring me that sniper, alive!" The two Securitrons immediately comply, speeding across the battlefield and confront the sniper. "Lay down your weapon," One Securitron states. The Securitrons have their 9mm submachine guns aimed at the sniper.

Meanwhile, the battle continues heavily in favor of the Courier's Securitrons. Several Securitrons get taken down by fire from the Legion's Anti-Material Rifles along with the various mines and explosives, but their positions are quickly overwhelmed by the sheer number of Securitrons and the extensive heavy fire, laying down bullets, grenades, missiles, and lasers across the Legion's lines. The Courier comes out from behind cover and rushes into battle, helping eliminate the remaining Legionnaires, although being much smarter about keeping behind cover. The Courier begins working his way towards the Securitrons and Legion sniper.

"Yes, centurion!"

"Good. Everyone not loading civilians withdraw to the main building!"

Initiative of the Foederati, pt. 2
It has taken some time, nearly a year and a half of trial-and-error, but the Weaponsmith's Guild has finally come up with a way to increase their output. A combination of new machines that make rifling and casting easier as well as innovations in workflow have led to significant improvements in the efficiency of their work. The Guild's leadership has sponsored the construction of a whole new building to take the concepts they have developed and put it to work smelting the scrap into useable steel.

The only problem is that the machines are powered by various different means, from people-pushed mills to wind and water-powered. One place even has a mule hitched up to the gear in order to provide power to the machines. While that's fine for now, a mechanic recently immigrated from Vegas (from before the destruction of Cottonwood Cove) believes there's a better way to power these factories. In his spare time, he's begun working on building a high-pressure steam engine that will further improve the efficiency of the factories.

Confronting the snipers, the Securitrons pause for a single moment before splitting off. One Securitron rushes over to the sniper still firing and sprays several 9mm bullets through the Legionary sniper’s hands before forcibly grabbing the sniper and lifting them off of the ground, “You are coming with me,” The Securitron states. The other Securitron confronts the sniper with the explosives, “Do not make any sudden movements,” The Securitron states. It aims its weapon right towards the sniper’s hand, “Surrender, or you will face the consequences.”

Meanwhile, as the Cove becomes engulfed in flames, the Securitrons make quick work of the final remaining Legion survivors, although the fires begin to spread at a rapid rate and damage many Securitrons. The Courier turns to the Securitrons around him and gives his orders, “Back away! Get out of the cove and let the flames-“ The Courier stops when he sees the barge with Aurelius of Phoenix and several civilians leaving. The Courier feels the blood from his gunshot wound dripping down his face and his mood suddenly shifts. His hearing becomes blurred except for the sounds of battle around him. A feeling of rage takes control of him and he points at the barge, “Target that barge,” The Courier says, his voice almost a whisper. Several Securitrons aim at the barge with their missiles and open fire. The Courier wasn’t sure if the barge was still in range but he didn’t care, all he sees now is red, his fury and rage controlling him.

At that moment, the dynamite explodes. At the very least, the Legionary is killed by the explosion. The explosion should be enough to destroy the securitron, but it's hard to tell through the smoke.

Aurelius isn't on the barge, he's standing on top of the command building, firing wildly below him and tossing dynamite everywhere. He watches as the barge explodes and begins to sink, taking everyone onboard with it. He is shocked, not at their deaths, but that the Courier might be capable of such cruelty. He smirks. He'd have made a fine agent of the Legion had he not gotten delusions of Grandeur. He is so tickled by the notion, in fact, that he begins to laugh, crazed by battle, the sound rising above the tumult. "So this is the great and mighty Courier Six!" he roars between peals. "Killer of defenseless women and children!" He doubles over in laughter. "So this is what your freedom looks like! The freedom to die! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!"

Desha County
Along the Arkansas river laid the small town of Pine Bluff, having been occupied by raiders that have disrupted caravans moving along the river heading towards Little Rock. Having filled in the county sheriff office, they’ve caused denough of a nuisance to have the Union army called in to clear them out. So 700 men were sent in to clean the town along with some of the heavier Union equipment including 3 of the Napoleons.

One haved arrived in the region it became evident that the raiders were more well prepared than planned, as they had set up a few machine gun emplacements towards the approaching Army. While it caused a delay, it only lasted until the 12 pounders could be brought up into position. Afterwards it just took the better part of the day to pound them until they abandoned their positions. And after moving further into the town, the Napoleons were moved forward to continue the bombardment. The explosive shells had continued to prove effective to the hastily made scrap barriers, though were hard pressed to continue support once the infantry moved into the town. Leading to more dangerous close quarter fighting. Now that the town cleared a more ambitious march was planned within the halls of the Union senate, as questions were raised of the city of Little Rock.

Desha County annexed, 67 men lost.

The explosion from the Legionary’s dynamite blasts the Securitron, destroying its screen. The Securitron collapses to the ground, it’s systems shorting out. Sparks fly everywhere, catching fire and within moments, the Securitron is destroyed and the area is engulfed in flames. The other Securitron with the captured sniper gets caught in the blast and collapses. Jagged shrapnel and debris impact the captured sniper right before the Securitron collapses on top of the sniper, crushing him.

Meanwhile, the Courier watched as the missiles destroy the barge, slaughtering all of the civilians on board. The Courier could not hear the battle around him, only voices whispering in his ears. He turns his attention to the Aurelius of Phoenix, making a desperate last stand. The Securitrons quickly surround Aurelius and spray him with bullets and lasers as the Courier marches to the command building. The Courier looks Aurelius dead in the eye. Aurelius could see the Courier’s eyes were distant and glazed, almost like he wasn’t even there. The Courier levels his revolver with Aurelius’ head and puts the final bullet in him.

For a moment, the Courier doesn’t move. Instead he only stares at Aurelius’ corpse, his rage and anger still not subsided. He shoots again, putting another bullet in the head of Aurelius. And then again, and again. He keeps shooting until the revolver fires no more. Then, he hears a familiar voice in his head, calling to him, ‘Wake up,’ The voice soothes the Courier and he calms down. He looks around the flaming remains of the Cove and then to the remains of the barge, the corpses of civilians floating in the river. He puts his revolver away and feels his gunshot wound on his head once again, his hands shaking. He takes a few deep breaths before turning to his Securitrons, “Clean up the mess.” He then storms out of the Cove, desperate to put everything that happened behind him.

Little Rock, Hard Rock
The city of little rock was stated as a simple river crossing in the center of the state of Arkansas. Later growing into the future state capital thanks to its central location and consistent trade. Sitting along the I-30 and I-40 interstate roads, as well as one of the major ports along the Arkansas river. Being an important stop, align the midwestern caravan routes heading into Oklahoma and Northern Texas. Being well traveled and hit with more fallout than nukes, it was quickly repopulated after the bombs fell. Now being occupied by a sizable population all ruled by the city’s governor, Henry Porter. A charismatic man who has run the city for the last 27 years. Kept in power thanks to the numerous soldiers under his payroll. Having put down most opposition through cunning and guns. He runs Little Rock as his own personal Kingdom. Though with the Union encroaching closer and closer, he has so far turned away the diplomatic approach the Senate has been taking. Firm in his belief in staying in power over the small city and keeping himself as a leader in the waists.

However, things have changed within the wasteland. With refugees coming in from the west, talking about a red clothed horde of fanatics and lunatics. With most willing to stand against them being overrun with endless waves. With the choice of joining the Union and living lower on the power scale, or torn out of his nice home and butchered in the burning streets in his city. Porter was glad to take the bribe to join the Union, along with staying governor of Little Rock. Soon after the Union moved into the city to cheering crowds, happy to have greater security from the horror stories coming from Oklahoma. A permanent garrison of 500 was placed within the city to ensure security along with the local guards.
Little Rock annexed , 15 gold traded, 2451 pop gained.

Recruitment Drive

As an ever expanding border puts a larger strain on the Union forces, a large recruitment drive was started to replace losses and fill the gap of needed men. Along with the recruitment drive some more specializations were put in place to take advantage of the expanding arsenal of the Union army. Along with some specialists that have joined from the expanded territory’s.

On the far side of the lake, in Legion territory, Foederati Auxilia scour the bank for survivors. A couple of people are still alive, having the presence of mind to jump right before the missiles impacted, though they were knocked unconscious by the blasts. It is from them that it is learned what happened.

The local Centurion orders a moratorium on travel to New Vegas, either through the now-destroyed Cove or through the Dam. Caravans coming from the Dam would be detained and no one would be allowed to approach the Dam.

If New Vegas didn't want the Legion's business, so be it.

Chapter 3: Operation Hearth

Following the Battle at Cottonwood Cove, the Courier heads back through the gates of New Vegas with his remaining two-hundred and seventy Securitrons. He didn’t pay any attention to the residents who gawked and watched the Courier. He didn’t pay any attention as he walks through the doors of the Lucky 38 and heads to his Suite. Arriving inside he storms into his room and begins packing his belongings. ED-E hovers nearby and curiously beeps, but the Courier ignores him.

A few minutes later, Arcade Gannon walks into the Suite. “What happened?” The Courier doesn’t respond, still packing his things. “I have reports from people about bodies floating in the Colorado. Tell me-“ The Courier turns and stares down Arcade before grabbing his bags and exiting the Suite. Arcade rushes after him and stops him in the hallway, “Just tell me what happened.” The Courier sighs before turning to face Arcade, “I lost control, it was a switch, I couldn’t stop it. . .” Arcade shakes his head, “You’ve always been able to control it.” The Courier looks away, “I used to. But not after Big Mountain. . .not after-“ The Courier points to the surgical scars where his brain had been removed and then placed back, “Not after that. It’s why I always leave, why I never stay. . .I shouldn’t have come back. . .Arcade, I’m leaving, and I’m not coming back, so-“ Arcade walks and places his hand on the Courier’s shoulder, “Listen, we need you here. People aren’t happy about the Securitrons we have across the Mojave, there are new gangs popping up in the New Sector, we need you now more than ever.” The Courier turns his back to Arcade, “You don’t. I placed you and everyone else on the Council for a reason. You never needed me.” The Courier begins to walk away, but Arcade calls out, “Jeremiah!” The Courier stops in his track and turns his head, “Goodbye Arcade.” Arcade closes his eyes as the Courier walks into the elevator and leaves the Lucky 38. ED-E, hovering nearby, gives a lingering mournful beep. Arcade sighs, “Follow him, make sure he stays safe ED-E.” The little eyebot cheers up and beeps happily before going after the Courier.

Arcade turns over and notices the large portrait of Mr. House in the hallway. He could almost here the former ruler of New Vegas laughing through the painting. Arcade remembers the old mantra of House, ‘The House Always Win.’ With everything happening, a part of Arcade can’t help but feel like this is all House’s revenge. He never liked House, but over the years Arcade gained more of an understanding of the man, Robert House. A man that spent his life pushing technology and humanity, a man that spent so much for the city of Vegas, only to be betrayed and to lose everything he had ever built and worked on in the end. Arcade turns and leaves the Suite, his fate, the fate of Vegas, and the fate of the entire Mojave now heading into an uncertain future.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
Expansion Post 4

Some of the last free assets of the Cherokee remained in Oklahoma's upper northeast. Whether they were dissidents or too far away for the Legion to efficiently control remained to be discussed, but the deep spacing in between Revolutionary Middleland's territorial advances was a statement that Middle was slowing down, feeling itself around expansions as if they were tactically-minded about what land specifically to occupy and which belonged to the Legion. This land in particular was valuable because it was the quickest gateway into the lands which were once Arkansas. This stretch of land would offer Middle the perfect launching point for the least expense in terms of mobility and logistical standards.

2,000 men and women of the Revolutionary Middleland's army were rallied and marched to the borderlands from the north. They would have been moved three days in advance in order to also transport the appropriate number of horses to mount them. This final invasion of the native americans would be done in a similarly ruthless blitz as what had happened in the first phases of Middle's existence. Red flags once again lit up the horizon as a night raid was ordered. By the quickly-fleeting light of dusk, an incursion would be launched. As the lands in the region's south were long since abandoned in fear of a Legion invasion, the keys to this region's power laid in four cities: Miami, Vinita, Nowata, and Grove.

A company of 225 soldiers each would be dispatched to each city, with the leftovers laying claim to more rural settlements. Knowing full well that the peoples isolated between two giants and petty scavengers to the east would be on a streak of defeatism, four envoys would be sent to propose a surrender ultimatum-- with much less 'kind' terms than the ones delivered to the Osage's remnants.

Miami was the first to decline, and suffered a city-wide slaughter of all of its male residents after a short skirmish gone terribly wrong.
Vinita surrendered instantaneously.
Nowata declined and held off Middle's detachment on 3 separate occasions, but completely collapsed upon the arrival of the rural reinforcements. Thankfully, it was spared slaughter.
Grove surrendered instantaneously.

A small foundry would be found in Vinita in a moderately damaged shape, and resources would be devoted to repairing it. There was also an order made to build a small factory across the city from the same. An attempt to loot blueprints was made, but came out minimal- if any.

Middle would gain 1,688 civilians out of this endeavour, finally through with the Oklahoman theatre and ready to concentrate on internal matters.

The First Step

President Robert E. Lee III lifted the flap that divided the tent he estabilished as his headquartes in the southern outskirts of Nashville: beneath him, around 5.000 soldiers of the 1st Confederate Infantry stopped chattering between them and started staring him silently. The President looked for a moment around him, he was surrounded by all the high-ranking officers of the New Confederate Army and, behind them, many local journalists, some with salvaged cameras, were observing him with the same religious silence of the soldiers around them, and everyone was waiting for his word, to finally know what was about to happen.
The President took a deep breath, and began the speech he had so carefully prepared: "Men and women of the New Confederate States, in the last week many viciuos rumors about have spread, rumors that said we're getting ready to reclaim the territories that are rightfully ours, stripped from us and our ancestors by the Northern Agressors, and I've come here today to tell you...this rumors are completely true."
If before the camp was quiet, now it was dead silent, many soldiers turned to theireighbors in search of reassurance or explanation, but they were equally incredulous. President Lee expected this type pf reaction, so he continued his speech: "After decades of preparation, the War Council has decided it is finally the time to start the campaign of reconquest of the stolen lands. Brothers, for long enough the fear has prevented us from reclaiming what was rightfully ours, aren't you tired of sitting here while savages roam through our lands?" various voices of consent could be heard coming from the mass of soldiers "In secret, our scouts have prepared our way to Memphis and the Mississipi river, which will have the honour to be the first Confederate city we retake from the barbarians that surround us!" the consent voices became more and louder as the speech progressed "I know that many of you have never even stepped outside Nasville, but I can ensure that our march will be glorious, we'll welcome the scared citizens that live in the wastes and show their loyalty to the Confederacy, but we will crush any savage that stands in our way. Ready your weapons man, tomorrow...we go to war!" the soldiers erupted in cheers and applause, while the President returned to his tent.
In fact the next day the 1st Confederate Infantry was ready to march into battle, despite the old I-40 was a more direct connection to their target, it was decided to start the expansion following the I-65, because the scouts found it a less-defended area compared to the one directly to the west of Nasville, or to be more precise the Route 31.
Much excitement filled the whole army when it crossed the Harpeth River, which had been the Confederate border for more than three decades. As the explorers reported, the area was loosely controlled by some small communities, and apart from the occasional crazy raider gang or feral ghoul pack, resistance to well equipped and trained army was basically minimal, with many locals welcoming the incoming army, seeing them as bringers of stability to their lands.
Some man were lost, many were left behind to control the newly acquired lands, but the bulk of the army, personally led by the President encamped on the northern shores of the Duck River, ready to continue the expansion.

1.567 civilians joined the New Confederate States, as now the Confederacy was in full control of the territory around what-once-was Murfreesboro.

With expanding needs in regards to the growing industrial power of the Union, electricity had begun to become a rare commodity to many of the common people. In regards this has pushed Union researchers to try and rediscover the past usage of energy production. As the Mississippi could not be damned, and the meager amounts of coal coming in from the mines. Some scientists looked to rediscover the use of Energy cells for some small generator usage. As well as trying to figure out how to use the small amounts of solar panels found within the city’s in hopes of expanding the power grid.

Along with the opening research, the mines in Beaumont were slated to be expanded, as some more entrepreneuring industrialists were gutsy enough to take a loan from the Gray Foxes to finance the expansion.

And with Houston now in firm control of the Union, paid scavengers from the Scav-Union flooded the city to pull up any salvageable equipment from the wreckage of the old world. Mosty finding large arms from the museums scattered within the city and its outskirts.

Research into E6 started, Beaumont upgrade started, Houston scavenged (14 vehicles, 14 guns), 21sc spent
