The State of Maneiras

West Pangasinan wrote:

"Very well, I'll try to make this brief. The Grand Duchy of Pangasinan is a constitutional monarchy and follows a parliamentary system of governance. The Parliament of Pangasinan is divided in to two houses - the Chamber of Peers and Chamber of Commons. The lower house, the Chamber of Commons, consists of publicly elected MPs from various districts and whose primary job is the passage of legislation. The Chamber of Peers, meanwhile, is composed of members of nobility, members of various ethnicities, and relevant public groups whose job is to review legislation coming from the Commons. Through this role, the Chamber of Peers acts as a check on the more powerful Chamber of Commons.

"For our society, Pangasinenses are divided in two groups: Nonscion settlers which dominates most of the country's coastal settlements, and ethnic Pangasinenses, which are then further divided into further tribes and clans. The former are pale-skinned," Francisco says, unconsciously looking at his hands before continuing, "while the ethic Pangasinenses are of slightly darker color. In the centuries since the first settlers arrived, both groups have adopted the customs and traditions of each other: religion, naming conventions, myths and folklore, clothing, etc. There also exists a small number of Neko-jinn, those called Catfolk by the westerners, who also adopted some traditions from both groups.

"Lastly, our economy is a dominated by agriculture and aquaculture, followed by a rising manufacturing industry. Other industries include mining, toruism, shipbuilding, healthcare, and BPOs."

“It seems like Pangasinan is just a normal and stable parliamentary democracy. It is certainly relieving, as both of us does not want to be on the wrong end of a rifle, nor does it beneficial for each of us.” president Kusuma nonchalantly comments. He steps up and picks up a long white metal stick and gently swipes it across the TV screen. “And certainly, we would appreciate economic cooperations, however I'm getting ahead of myself.”

The TV screen changes to an image of a large wood panelled hall with seats and tables in a semi-circle arrangement. The Maneiran symbol and motto displayed on its front wall, alongside a row of flags. “Maneiras is a parliamentary semi-presidential federal republic, under the pretitle of federation. The government is split between three branches. The legislative branch is composed of the two chambers of parliament, with the Chamber of Public Representatives representing the people and concerned about matters of public concerns. While the upper chamber, Chamber of Regional Representatives represents the interest of federal provinces. The judicial branch perform the daily judicial operation of Maneiras. While the executive branch is composed of the president, prime minister, coordinating ministers, and ministers.”

The president swipes once more, now displaying downtown Sarya city as it seems. In the night sky, the skyscrapers which dominates the landscape is alight, and the logos representing the companies that owned them proudly displayed on the side of their highest floors. The camera turns into a building complex, the Kai Sai Plaza and zoomed into one of the room, the exact room where the delegates and president is standing, the camera clearly seeing them sitting in the distance. “The Maneiran economy is large, industrialized and robust, dominated by private interests and conglomerates which operates multiple sectors, commonly in the manufacturing, services, banking, e-commerce, retail and food processing.”

“The Maneiran society is built around the value of meritocracy, where any skills that proves useful and economical is valued greatly. It doesn't matter if you're good at something everyone's good at, as long as you have a knack in doing something good, there's a good chance society will help you get to the top, or live comfortably.” he swipes and switches the screen to displaying an enormous white, black, and blue sleek and sharp structure, which resembles palaces in layout, however is brutalist. “The Maneiran society as they held meritocracy is very driven by academic and athletic prowess, and often pursue only the best for their future generations. Economically, it ensures the families and parents have a source of income once they're retired, while the child enjoys an easy life with employments clearly available everywhere. While for Maneiras, it provides us with an educated low and middle class. Ripe for innovations to sprung up everywhere.”

The president swipes once more, and the screen is a podium, where a Neko-Jinn female, fully furry in a clear white fur is in a speech. “We're a very tolerant culture towards any and all ethnicities and species, we have a neko-jinn prime minister as seen here, our current prime minister Sasha Nila Natasha. Other neko-jinn enjoys similar living standards as humans, and some even dominating entire sectors, mainly in entertainment, journalism, and strangely geology.”

"Yes, that is truly a surprising news to us, a Neko serving in such a high position. An inspiration for Neko-jinn rights activists in Pangasinan, and for the world as whole," Francisco replies, hoping to maintain his hosts attention by addressing the Maneiran prime minister, lest they notice the temporary shift in attitude of Col. Alonzo from the early comment made by President Kusuma. While it seems he has regained his composure, it's better to be safe than sorry. "Unfortunately, the status of Neko-jinn in Pangasinan is still a thorny subject, due to a combination of historical biases and religious opposition. Thankfully, hate crimes against them are almost non-existent, the few who do are mostly religious fanatics or the odd human supremacists. Maybe with the help of the current talks with a government featuring such a prominent Neko-jinn, we can finally break down the last barriers to integrate them into the wider society."

It will open its doors this year.

The 2023 university entrance exam has not changed in terms of papers, and will still consist of six subjects with a total score of 600. German, Maths 1-1 and Foreign language are the basic subjects, arts students use Mathematics 2-A and arts combined exam papers (history, geography, philosophy), science students use mathematics 2-B and science combined exam papers (physics, chemistry, biology).

The federal police, the National Guard and the National Security forces have all been mobilized to conduct anti-terrorism and anti-cheating security checks. The radio detection vehicle of the Joint Logistics Force is on 24/7 operation. At the same time, several airports across the country were closed to avoid affecting test takers, and diplomatic work was immediately suspended.

The Grand Duchy of Malvekia

The low hum of the jet engine as it cruises above the clouds does little to distract Ambassador Marcini, poring through his visit itinerary once more as the aircraft makes final adjustments to enter Karmoyen airspace. His aide looks out of the window anxiously, waiting to take a peek at this new land that will soon join the ranks of other Oriental nations to form diplomatic relations with Malvekia.

"They say Kamorye used to be part of the Plajian Empire." The aide enthusiastically speaks. "But then after the collapse industrial pollution and conflict turned the air black and thick with smog. I hope they're joking. When I asked to be put in the diplomatic corp I expected rolling hills, cities that light up the night sky, good weather. Not some smog-ridden hellhole."

"Just be glad you weren't assigned to Arque, okay? Lord knows what the embassy staff went through when the civil war broke out." Marcini snaps back. "And you better watch your mouth when we land, then. Kamorye might be polluted to hell and back, but the Kamoryens are a hardy and proud people. They're already living a hard life, best not get on their nerves, yeah?"

"Still though, imagine living in constant smog, with no chance of ever seeing the sun or the sky. How the hell do people live like that?"

"We'll find out soon, won't we?" Marcini replies as the voice over the plane's intercom crackles to life.

"Attention all passengers. We will begin our final descent into the Kamoryen capital of Orloha soon. May I remind all passengers to remain seated, and have a safe flight."

The plane dips into the clouds as the occupants take their seats. All eyes turn to the windows, and as the plane emerges from the cloud cover as it descends into the airport, the sight before them catches many off-guard. A dusty landscape of grey as far as the eye can see, as if looking through a thin veil. Around the capital, billowing clouds of smoke and dust churn out of the tall cylindrical chimneys of what remaining factories that were functional. Faint glimmering beyond the smoke and dust can only be assumed to be street and building lights. Despite the plane approaching the ground fast, the landscape nor even a speck of greenery can rarely be seen, obscured by the thick wall of smog that constantly embraces the aircraft as it makes its final approach onto the runways of the designated airport.

"Christus Almighty." One assistant mutters.

"This is worse than I thought." Another mumbles with dread in his eyes.

"Alright alright. Enough yapping from you lot. We're here to represent Malvekia. And I'll be damned if any of you say something stupid that gets us kicked out of here." Marcini says as he passes face masks to the rest of his entourage. "Here, you better wear these for your own safety. Now, we've come this far, so let's get to it then. And someone go check on the special gift and have it prepped for transportation."

The airplane touches down, the brightly illuminated runway the only source of light piercing through the dense smog surrounding the airport. Taxiing into a hangar the plane comes to a stop, the doors open up with a hiss as a smoky, sour smell wafts in through the cracks. As the door fully opens the delegation is blasted with a face full of fumes and smoke. The encroaching smog proving to be a vicious assault on the senses that left many in the delegation with watering eyes, coughing fits and gasping for air.

"Come on now, it isn't that bad." Marcini grumbles as he rubs his eyes before signaling for the rest of his delegation to follow him. They proceed down the steps and onto the hangar floor, where the Kamoryen delegation awaits them. Many in the Kamoryen delegation had on themselves bulky gas masks and oxygen tanks, a better defense against the smoke and dust than the meager face masks that the Malvekian delegation was given in preparation for the journey.

"Mr Vlasov. My name is Alessio Marcini, designated ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Malvekia to the People's Republic of Kamorye." Ambassador Marcini says with a hearty smile as he holds out his hand to a man in the Kamoryen delegation that looked like the highest ranking official, hoping it was Vlasov. The bulky gas masks are not helping much in distinguishing who's who. "A pleasure to meet you, my good sir."

Maybe with the help of the current talks with a government featuring such a prominent Neko-jinn, we can finally break down the last barriers to integrate them into the wider society."

“It is rather sad that Neko-Jinns around the world are discriminated against, and especially our second closest neighbor, the backwater down south of Maneiras. Even though Maneiras is a muslim majority nation, we respect and tolerate the existence of other religion, species and ethnicities.” the president comments, he swipes again and the screen switches to the Sarya main avenue in the blistering ray of the sun at noon. Lively and full of people, the street is lined with stalls, storefronts, and even interspecies friend groups are seen. Some looked Usnistani, while others looked Nonsciscan. “Maneiras is built on the foundation of tolerance, and unity in diversity. Not because of an ideology, however out of necessity.”

The screen is swiped, and is now a graph of supply and demand with the timeline stretching into the late 1800s. “Here, we can see that before the year 1903 and the tolerance act, the economy of Maneiras have been rather stagnant with no rise in productivity or demand. Simply equilibrium, an equilibrium that equates to low unemployment, low demand and low productivity due to our lack of manpower. As before the act, Neko-Jinns are barred from employment outside of agriculture.” he then marked the graph, that then shows the line of demand skyrocketing after 1903. “Basically, we introduced a ton of manpower into the economy, give it some government incentives and a little debt crisis and the economy is industrializing. Manpower and brainpower shortages no more.”

He swipes again and its back on the brutalist building, it's noon in the footage, and students are entering and exiting the academy building. “Nowadays, we are advocating for the equal rights of Neko-Jinns, as an equal creature. Not just due to it being socially correct, it additionally gave us more brainpower and manpower to use, thus an educated and skilled labor pool.”

He swipes and the screen slides into a collage of footages, CCTV footages and photographs of CCTVs present in nearly every building corner, lightpole, or windows, with drones deploying and landing on rooftops of buildings, glinting the red glare of their camera. “And in preventing hate crimes, or any crimes for that matter. As the most monitored state in northern Orientalis as a whole, with 2 million security cameras, several dozen thousand of surveillance and pursuit drones, and thousands of online personnels be it private or in the police monitoring the internet. We have ensured that Maneiras is one of the safest nation to live in.”

“Not even a single person that has entered Maneiras or Maneiran onlinespace is undocumented.”
