WAIT. Many people can tell bad jokes. However dad jokes are told by dads so even though a joke can come off as a dad joke, it can only be one if told by a dad.

"Dad" is a rung on the joke quality scale no matter who tells it. It's right above "Michael Scott" and well below "local improv group". The only exception to this rule is Mitch Hedberg.
