Hello everybody. The October release of the IDU Map is now ready. We have added back the continent names: Neria, Liberalia, Hesperida, and Caxcana and also touched up the color of the salt water and the unclaimed territories. My attempts to add in the lines of longitude and latitude didn't look good (e.g. parallel), so I'm going to punt on this until the next release. We welcome to the map Maraix and Sunemia as well as a few "filler" non-player nations: Porphurya, Central Liberalian Republic, and New Darya. The filler nations were added to reduce the vastness of unclaimed territory as well as to provide options for common role plays. Have a look -> https://app.box.com/file/731590063479?s=isgiktrgkpjwogx53lkp6keo6z87h090

For your nation, some possibilities: native species similar & closely related to RL's Chinese Foxnut, Chinese Mahogany, Japanese Hop-Hornbeam, Chinese Crocodile Lizard, Yangtze Giant Softshell Turtle (also present in Philosophical Pandas, where I have decided that the major river flowing into Laeral -- the river in whose basin this species lives -- is known locally as the "Myt'hai"...), Azure-winged Magpie, Red-headed Blue Magpie, and Common Green Magpie [local species is the 'Red-headed Greenpie'...]. Three species of Conifer that also exist in RL (Nothotsuga longibractea ['Bristlecone Hemlock], Thuja suthchuensis, Podocarpus nobilis), and maybe a member of the Plum-Yew family [Cephalotaxaceae]. A species of bird that also exists in RL [Lidith's Jay], for which you'd need a local name. RL's "Butterfly Bush" [Buddleia], and also an IDU-endemic "Moth Bush" [commonly "Smittia", scientifically 'Schmidtia'; introduced elsewhere as a garden plant] which is similar but has white flowers and blooms at night rather than during the day...
Do you want any of those?

The Second Allied Provinces of Laeral

Hello all!

It appears that despite speculation (and Max Barry's remarks to the contrary) Z-Day is in fact happening this year. First of all, I encourage everyone who is not already familiar to read the dispatch featuring the IDU's Anti-Zombie Policy:

1. If the game gives you ‘cure missiles’ then use them: if it only gives you ‘zombie extermination teams’ (or whatever they’re calling those now) then you could use them to help reduce the spread, but that would also reduce the number of potentially-curable survivors so is probably best saved for nations that need really urgent action to prevent total collapse (or for your own puppets, if that’s how you want to play it, of course…) and nations that are actively “exporting” zombies.
2. If the game gives you ‘zombie hordes’ to “export” to the rest of the region then please do not use these: Any nation seen deliberately spreading the plague could be subject to expulsion if & when anybody with Founder access — or the regional Officers, if they can find enough Influence for this — finds out, and although they’d be allowed to return once the crisis is passed they could be put on trial (with the possibility of being banned from the region, if found guilty) afterwards.
Any nations that are seen deliberately spreading the plague, and that do not cease doing so when asked, are legitimate targets for ‘zombie elimination squads’.
3. Based on strategies that have been seen to work before, I suggest that _
A/ When you come online during the outbreak, and once you are able to start launching cure missiles, announce these facts in the RMB.
B/ Do not target nations that have said they themselves are launching missiles, unless they post again specifically to request this help, because doing so would block them [temporarily] from continuing to launch.
C/ Multiple nations targeting their curative efforts at a single nation isn’t actually a problem, unless it means that weaker countries are left to be destroyed at that time: In fact, if the nation being targeted is one that itself is very useful to the curative efforts & research, concentrating on it for long enough to make a significant difference might actually be a good idea.
D/ If you see a nation that’s very close to collapse, post that fact in the RMB. If you join the effort to save a nation about which somebody else has made such a post then you could say so, if you have time, so that we don’t get too many people concentrating on the effort to save that one at the expense of others that might also be endangered.
E/ If you see a nation that’s actually spreading the plague, post that fact in the RMB – and if they haven’t been involved in our discussion so far then send them a TG asking them to stop, and point them to this post’s explanation of regional policy.
F/ If you see that a nation has been completely cleared, post that fact in the RMB… and copy-&-paste any existing list of already-cleared nations into those posts, too, so that we can see more easily where help is still needed.
G/ However, check “cleared” nations now & then, especially after the game updates, in case the problem has resurfaced there.
H/ When you have to drop out of the campaign, post that fact in the RMB so that other people don’t count on further help that isn’t coming…
I/ Large nations are more effective at curing zombies in other large nations than smaller nations are, and large nations targeting smaller ones (or ones with only a few zombies left) may find their efforts having relatively small effects, so if there are enough people helping then it might be a good idea to concentrate on nations of about your own size first unless somebody else is calling desperately for help. Remember, though, that small nations might be at greater risk of quick collapse, and should require less clearing than larger ones, so if they’re willing to help in the campaign once cleared then giving them priority might be useful.
(There was also a possibly-useful dispatch posted in TNP last year: page=dispatch/id=505793.)

The number-one takeaway from our regional Z-Day policy:
Everyone participating in Z-Day within the region is required to research a cure. No exceptions. Nations found to be intentionally spreading zombies or kill-squads will be ejected from the region for the duration of the event.

Thanks very much, and enjoy joining us in curing the zombie scourge!

Z-Day General Hints & Tips

1. Unless a nation that is active has requested cure missiles, target nations that are offline. This is because when a cure missile hits a nation, that nation cannot then launch their own missiles.

2. It is often more effective to target nations of a similar population to your own, however this is not necessary.

3. CURE MISSILES ONLY.

4. You can see which nations have the most zombies here: page=list_nations/region=international_democratic_union?censusid=82 and which have the highest proportion of zombies here: page=list_nations/region=international_democratic_union?censusid=84

5. If you see a nation violating the regional anti-zombie policy then you can send them a TG from the templates (available on discord, or TG me if you don't use discord). Please mention if you have sent a TG and who to.

6. You receive your first cure missiles two hours after you first selected the "cure" option in your zombie control page.

7. When you are going offline, it is helpful to state that you're doing so, so that active players can then target you. When you return online, notifying others is also a good idea. You can do this on the discord channel #z-day or on the RMB.

There is a "no zombies" option in your nation settings if you do not want to participate in the event.

I am going offline. You may target my nations in the region:
Lauchenoiria
Kerlile
Zongongia
Fleura
Aeluria

Less than usual as I didn't move my puppets in before the event because I thought it wasn't happening & was not at home.

We have managed to get rid of all our zombies! Congratulations, and thank you everyone who took part!

A note of caution: Max Barry has already thrown two curveballs at us this year... we should be vigilant should something else happen before the end of the event.

The Social Democracy of Gardavasque

So it looks like another Z-Day is behind us. I believe our showing was respectable given the circumstances. This year's annual zombie game was peculiar in that the news messages from Max almost appeared to indicate there was not going to be any Z-Day and then seemed to gaslight nations into accepting more zombies rather than curing them. Once again, the year 2020 proves to be full of surprises. I'd like to recognize Xiomera in particular for choosing to keep up with our cure strategy even when doing so seemed questionable, given the misdirections from Max. Several others deserve recognition for finding a way to make time for Z-Day especially when they had other plans Lauchenoiria, Sunemia, Legionas, Aertemedia, Democratic Republic of Eiria, Maraix, Laeral, New Lusitania and the Algarves, -Astoria, Trive 38, and Libertas Omnium Maximus all deserve our gratitude. It's been fun, y'all.
