Sri Malawi wrote:Japan is a completely different situation. Japan, a xenophobic island nation, and the USA, a massive country with massive borders, and very diverse population. It's very difficult to compare them.

Japan's culture is inherently rule driven. There are so many cultural rules, that it's easy to follow governmental laws. And, Japan has an incredibly well developed policing system. And, older people generally don't commit crime as much. Also, Japan does not totally ban guns.

The USA is very different culturally. Being a "rebel" in the USA, is actually the more common viewpoint. The American policing system is quite developed, but not in the same way. There are a plethora of issues with America that directly hurt policing efforts.

And why did Japan suddenly come up?

Japan is isolationist, not that xenophobic, although it is certainly a problem. I'd consider the US just as xenophobic, but in a different way. And yes, in the case of a well developed policing system, there's no need for everyone to have guns. The government should strive for that. "Other than the police and the military, no one in Japan may purchase a handgun or a rifle".

And I'm just giving Japan as an example because its a nation in which all your problems with not allowing guns are practically nonexistant.

Racism and xenophobia is very much still a problem for Japan. They haven't even instituted any official laws against discrimination, that I know of. It is changing for the better, but it will take at least a couple more decades for this issue to pass.

It's the combination of the policing system and the culture that make it possible for Japan to do this. I am saying that Japan is an anomaly.

You can purchase a Shotgun, if you have a license, and an Air Rifle.

I have no problems with your proposal, I just feel that we can reach the same conclusion with guns. The only issue I have brought up, is the drug trade. That will not change until the Cartels are finally destroyed.

And as I said in my first comment, Japan essentially does have a "Stasi"-like policing.

America is fundamentally xenophilic to the point where it becomes an issue sometimes, it's deeply ingrained into the culture.

Also Japan is deeply oppressive societally, and that's been hurting them recently.

I sided with the teacher who was a former porn star, and I got this, which I thought was hilarious:

The Talking Point
Attendance of fathers at PTA meetings is at an all-time high.

Reclassification
Threinfhiria was reclassified from a Corrupt Dictatorship to a Father Knows Best State.

On a side note, who likes cliff diving?

Correcting the very different course I set several years ago when I created this nation has been proving more challenging than anticipated, but I did at least score a minor victory here.

The Armed Republic of Gonswanza

Bored, hoping that something interesting will happen on II, also noting the sheer lack of regions that actually have active RPs within them. I mean, yea, there's one here, but the proboards are pretty inactive, bordering on dead-ness.
