Well, in fact most don't, the interesting thing when you are a Brazilian with white skin is that even in your own country your race will depends on who you are. Most of Brazilian people don't have a "one drop rule", it's not a genetic thing, it's phenotypical, if you look white, you are white, except in the south, here there is a one drop rule sometimes, or about your last name. People specially from the northeastern and northern region think of us a bunch of burgueoius people, when in fact most of us in south descend from Italians and Germans that where imported to whitening the country after abolishing slavery and substitute black slave labor. There is obvious ressentment, specially because the region voted mostly on right-winger for presidency while northeastern vote in mass for the left-wingers, and there is racism against them in some areas of Sao Paulo so everything nearby must be racist to them. On USA our status is even more weird, because there is not a main classification of us at all, we are not officially considered white, hispanic or even latino, but something else. In Europe we are mostly "one of our ex-colonies people", and this is not restricted to Portugal, but all European nation that had an imperialist past, well in fact we learned quite well from Portugal, Brazil was an Empire by itself after independence, and got a lot of territory by negotiations that were in fact a treaty, and when faced with war Brazil acted with full brutality, we even destroyed Paraguay, they hate us till today (they invaded Brazil, they begun the war, we just finished it, exterminating their male population with no mercy and full cruelty), because they never recovered at all. Oh and here in Brazil you Irish are mostly white people , and Steve Rogers, aka Captain America is an Irish descendant for us too. And Irish always sound Celtic and Gaelic for us anyway, those who studied you knew that there was a Norman invasion and you faced Viking raids, but considering all of them are white, the phenotypical white from europe they are white. Ironically it's the English and other European people that thanks to mass immigration and demographic implosion we don't take as a guarantee that it's white, in fact when I imagine France I imagine everything and a white minority, and I say this with no racism at all. On Portugal we make an acid joke that we are making a counter-colonization of the country, the just thing I have to say to the Portuguese is, it could be worse, at least we are not crescent moon people ok. | |
