The Unofficial Africa Delegate "Debate" [OOC]

Concerning: Roentgenia Lunar sand Vaspartama Mesothallania Bro Kinaba Navoj Dazpoly

After being reached out to by Bro Kinaba, and receiving the input of two more candidates, I am happy to say that I will be hosting an unofficial Africa Delegate "Debate". This is not related to my official position as an Observer Mod and is not an official part of the campaign through the Moderation Team.

Due to how diverse this region is (one of our many strengths), a live debate is difficult to organise, especially with so many candidates. Because of this, what I'll be doing instead is sending people a set of ten questions, plus one question submitted by every candidate should they wish, at a random time tomorrow (for fairness).

Needless to say, participation isn't required, but if you want to build a profile among Africa's citizens as a Delegate candidate, this is your chance. I'll leave some 12+ hours for people to get back to me with questions, and then you'll have until 12:00 UTC on Saturday to respond. I'll then make a dispatch comparing each candidate's responses.

Just a few quick rules:

  • You can only submit one question to other candidates.

  • Your response to each question must be at least two sentences long.

  • Your responses cannot contain anything off-topic, attacking other candidates, or breaking the Africa or NationStates Rules.

This is a bit of an experiment, so I hope it goes well! If you have any questions, please telegram me or DM on Discord. Hopefully this can be a chance for candidates to boost their own platforms, not attack others's. Bless the rains!

The United Republic of Transvaall

Kingdom of Saint Paul wrote:Invitation to Russia and Transvaall

The Kingdom would like to invite the Russian Socialist Federations and The United Republic of Transvaall to Saint Paul City for talks under the Overseas Board of the South Atlantic Treaty Organisation (SATO) of a non-aggression pact of both nations to the Kingdom of Saint Paul and Aurarian Empire (Lunar sand). The talks will be presided over by the Kingdom's provisional Ambassador to the Organisation and President pro tempore of the Overseas Board, Stephen MacFie.

Ambassador MacFie is opening the board for the nations to send dignitaries and put forward their demands, and hopes to build a mutually respectful relationship between the nations and SATO.

Response from the United Republic

"To the esteemed Kingdom of Saint Paul and the Overseas Board of the South Atlantic Treaty Organization (SATO),

We look forward to productive negotiations and a lasting relationship with the Kingdom and the Aurarian Empire.

Sincerely,

-President Johannes Louie Benedict"

Post: Alexander Ironside Campaigns in Montgomery, Alabama
Nations: United States of Mesothallania
Date: Wednesday October 16, 2024 (irl Gregorian Calendar)

Alexander Ironside appeared today walking from the city limits of Montgomery Alabama. His campaign team established that he started walking from the city limits at around nine o’clock in the morning and walked [most of] the same route that was taken during the Selma to Montgomery Marches in 1965; it took Mr. Ironside about five hours to complete the distance while in the direct sun. He concluded the walk at Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, where he later made a speech about half an hour after arriving at the scene.

Here are the excerpts from the speech he made that is being circulated around many news stories:

Ladies and gentlemen, friends, and fellow citizens,

Thank you for gathering here today on the steps of the historic Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church. This is more than just a location; it is a symbol of hope, resilience, and the unwavering fight for justice. It was here that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired a movement that would change the course of our nation, leading countless individuals toward a future filled with possibility.

Montgomery is a city rich in history, a place that has stood at the forefront of the struggle for justice and equality. From the Montgomery Bus Boycott to the Selma marches, this city has been a beacon of hope. Yet, we must acknowledge that our journey toward true equality is far from over. We are still fighting against the chains of social injustice and racial inequality that persist in our society today.

In 2024, we find ourselves at a crossroads. The disparities in wealth, access to education, and healthcare reveal a harsh truth: our systems have not worked for everyone. Communities of color continue to face obstacles that hinder their potential, while the cries for justice and human rights echo louder than ever. This is not just a problem for some; it is a challenge for all of us. We must ask ourselves: What kind of country do we want to be? What legacy will we leave for future generations?

I stand before you today not just as a candidate but as a fellow citizen committed to change. Together, we can build a nation where social injustice is a relic of the past, where racial inequality is dismantled, and where human rights are guaranteed for every single individual.

My vision for America includes a bold new policy: the establishment of a Universal Basic Income, a “UBI”, for low-income families. This initiative will provide a monthly stipend to ensure that every person can meet their basic needs, empowering individuals and families to pursue education, entrepreneurship, and job opportunities without the fear of financial instability. UBI can help bridge the gap in economic inequality and provide a safety net that allows everyone to thrive.

One: Justice is Accessible:
We will reform our justice system to ensure that it serves and protects all communities equally. We will dismantle systemic barriers that perpetuate injustice and promote transparency and accountability.

Two: Equality in Opportunity:
In addition to UBI, we will invest in education and job training programs in underserved communities, ensuring that every child has access to quality education and that every adult has the opportunity to thrive.

Three: Protection of Human Rights:
We will stand firm against discrimination in all its forms, ensuring that everyone—regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation—can live freely and authentically without fear.

Today, as we stand together on these historic steps, I ask for your support—not just for me, but for the values we hold dear. Let us draw inspiration from the courageous leaders who once gathered here and fought for a brighter future. Together, we can usher in a new era of justice, equality, and respect for human rights in America. Let us rise together, as one nation, united in purpose, to forge a future where everyone can reach their full potential.

Thank you, Montgomery. Let’s make history together!

Venice: A Beacon of History and Innovation

Ever since the city of Venice has become a World Heritage Site, tourism has been booming while more and more people are moving into the city to buy a home and live there. The anti-flooding measures in Venice which have been installed by the government is an excellent example of the growing innovation within the city. Of course, tourism must be sustainable though, so cruise ships are required to dock on the mainland instead of the actual city of Venice which is a few hundred meters away. Additionally, tourists visiting the city must pay a compulsory sustainability tax to enter amounting to $5 a day. Tourists who are staying overnight for one night or more are eligible to opt for a full refund of their $5 a day tax. This will help stimulate the local economy, make tourism sustainable, and generate revenue. There are ongoing projects to build multiple parks around the periphery of the city in order to reduce the flooding in the city and to provide tourists and citizens with ample green space. There will be wellness and recreation facilities in the parks as well.

The Democratic Republic of Roentgenia

I have seen a lot of comments about me in the other candidates' campaigns. And I have decided what they are saying is true and maybe I'll be back after a few years in the next election. I must say, I have gained a lot of constructive feedback from this. After hours of groveling about whether I should release a campaign, I have decided that it is better to back off than to lose by a margin of 200 votes.
Roentgenia will not participate in the upcoming elections.

The Dominion of Kingdom of Saint Paul

Building NAP Connections

Not every foreign ministry believes in the concept of the non-aggression pact. But the times of the world have dictated it to be a necessity for the Kingdom of Saint Paul. The nation, though in political deadlock, has been working tirelessly to advance itself in the foreign field, when the internal one faces difficulty. Recent successful negotiations with the Aurarian Empire can serve to prove that. Still, the Kingdom hopes to achieve further successes in its stewardship of the South Atlantic Treaty Organisation's (SATO) Overseas Board.

Regarding Transvaall

In concern, to Transvaall, the Kingdom hopes to provide Ambassador Mbatha a greeting equal to that provided to Russia. As such, the King has ordered Brigadier McCaldwell to remain in Saint Paul City. The 11th Brigade will proudly welcome Ambassador Mbatha to the country. Ambassador MacFie will similarly also welcome the Ambassador and guide him to the talk rooms in the Chaumers Building. The Kingdom will provide accommodation for the diplomatic team and any assistance they should require.

Dear Excellency,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Saint Paul City. I hope that you can find your stay here as welcoming and pleasant as possible. We are extremely pleased that Transvaall is open to securing a non-aggression pact with the Kingdom and the Aurarian Empire. On behalf of the Kingdom, I extend my gratitude to His Excellency the President and Your Excellency.

I hope that you have found the conditions and premises provided for the negotiations desirable. We hope to make swift progress in our negotiations and have them concluded by the end of the month. I would like to invite you to put forward your requests, and we shall be happy to start work on them as soon as you are willing to. You and your team will be discussing with 50 veteran Foreign Ministry officials, and I will be present when my duties allow.

I hope you are happy with these arrangements and I hope that we will be able to construct something of high utility and effectiveness.

Yours Sincerely,
Stephen H. MacFie

The negotiations will take place on the terms outlined above.

Regarding Russia

With the President and Chairman of the Russian Socialist Federations present, the stakes and desire for the country to impress are naturally much higher. The safety of the Russian team is being taken in extremely high regard, with the capital's Military and Metropolitan Police in much higher numbers near the Chaumers Building and President Putin and his team's accommodation. The 17th Brigade, under the command of Brigadier McHarris, has been called to the capital from Jundiahy.

The King has travelled to the capital to meet with President Putin and hopes negotiations can soon begin. His Majesty would like to invite His Excellency Putin to a meeting at the top-class Fiddler's Restaurant in the upper-class centre-west of the city. He hopes to outline the beginning of negotiations under an experienced team of 50 Foreign Ministry officials, with a goal to conclude it by the end of the month, the same aims for Transvaall.

---

Additionally, the Kingdom hopes to host an event celebrating each nation's culture if or when an agreement is reached. Preparations are currently being made.

Dear First Minister Norström,

We in the Kingdom of Saint Paul are pleased to hear about the stabilisation of your country. It is a good thing for the world to be at peace, and we are glad to have Katti on the world stage.

I am happy to say that the Kingdom would be willing to establish a foreign programme with your nation and provide direct foreign investment aid, amounting to 5 billion USD into your local manufacturing and mining industries, to help your reconstruction.

I hope that you can in turn authorise your Foreign Ministry to send a delegation to Saint Paul City and enter a trade agreement with us limiting tariffs on imports to 3.5% on everything except energy. We also hope you would agree to sign a non-aggression pact with us.

We hope that this can help stabilise your regime, benefit both of our economies, and establish Saint Paul as a friend to Katti.

Subject: Sky Shield Defense System: Overview and Specifications
Date: October 17, 2024
To be done on: January 2025
Signed or written by: Ministry of Defense, Colonel Rafael Marquez, Aurarian Empire. (Lunar sand)

- Sky Shield defense system is a crucial part of our national security strategy, designed to protect the Aurarian Empire (Lunar Sand) and our Africa regional allies. This advanced system will intercept various aerial threats, including missiles and drones, ensuring the safety of our airspace and key infrastructures.

The Sky Shield will feature a multi-layered defense network, consisting of long-range radars, satellite guidance systems, and high-speed interceptors capable of neutralizing threats before they reach populated areas. The system will be managed from a central command center, coordinating responses in real-time.

The estimated cost for the entire project is projected to be around €1.8 billion. This includes the installation of detection systems, interceptor stations, and the central command unit. The initial investment is substantial, but it ensures a reliable defense network, reducing the risk of future conflicts and damage.

Deployment and testing will be completed by January 2025, marking the start of a new phase in our defense capabilities. We aim to protect our people and secure our position as a key defense partner within the African region.

The Response of the First Minister to the Investment Proposal of the Kingdom of Saint Paul

Dear Lord D. Richard Lirquhar,

The Armed Republic of Katti welcomes the generosity of the Kingdom of Saint Paul. However, for the terms attached to this investment, a £5 bn investment would not offset the potential costs to the Kattian economy resulting from increased competitiveness of Saint Paulian companies in our nation, so I would have to ask that the Kingdom significantly increase its investment or limit the tariff cut to a decrease of 3.5%, resulting in a 14.5% tariff rate for the Kingdom's businesses down from an 18% standard tariff.

We accept the proposal for a non-aggression pact should the above revision be accepted, and we hope to establish strong diplomatic relations as equals.

Yours sincerely,
Fredrick Norström,
First Minister of the Armed Republic of Katti

Golden Eagles VS The Saint Paul Ravens!

Russian Socialist Federations VS Kingdom of Saint Paul

Cape Town Stadium, October 17th, 2024 - IRF World Cup

Match Overview:

The Cape Town Stadium hosted an exhilarating match between the Golden Eagles of Russian Socialist Federations and the Saint Paul Ravens of Kingdom of Saint Paul. With 55,000 roaring fans, both teams put on a thrilling display of skill and grit. The Golden Eagles, known for their physicality and relentless attacks, squared off against the agile and quick-witted Ravens. The match was intense, with each side giving their all on the field.

Commentary Recap:

1ST HALF:

10th Minute – Missed Tackle by The Ravens
The Ravens started the match with intensity but were caught off guard early when a missed tackle in midfield allowed Russia’s Isaak Bruyilean to slice through their defense. This mistake gave the Golden Eagles an early opportunity to press forward, putting Saint Paul under pressure.

18th Minute – Line Break by The Ravens
Saint Paul responded well, with Tommy Reed making a powerful line break that took The Ravens deep into Russian territory. Reed's agility and determination were key as he shrugged off defenders, setting up the next phase for The Ravens to capitalize on.

22 Minute: After a series of fast-paced phases, Jimmy MacHarris broke through to score Saint Paul’s first try, much to the delight of their fans. The accurate conversion by Jock MacMorrison gave them a solid early lead. Score: Kingdom of Saint Paul 7-0

32nd Minute – Penalty Conceded by The Ravens
Despite their lead, The Ravens’ discipline faltered when they conceded a penalty just outside their 22-meter line. Russia opted for a line-out, eager to assert their dominance in the set piece and look for a comeback in the match.

36th Minute: The Raven's struck again just before halftime, with Angus MacThomas finding space to score their second try. The clinical and accurate kick for polls from MacMorrison added another 2 points, and Saint Paul looked firmly in control with majority ball time and field coverage. Score: Kingdom of Saint Paul 14-0

38th Minute – Line Break by The Golden Eagles: Russia wasn’t done for the half though, as Niclan Urian made a crucial line break, tearing through the Ravens’ defense and bringing the Golden Eagles tantalizingly close to the try line before being tackled by Johhnny Gold, another frustratingly close encounter for the Golden Eagles. This set up a tense end to the first half.

2ND HALF:

45th Minute: The Golden Eagles came out flying in the second half, with Tryorleain Luka storming through The Ravens’ defense to score the Golden Eagles’ first try. Blake Axlyan made no mistake with the conversion, cutting the lead in half and finally getting momentum in the slow match. Score: Kingdom of Saint Paul 14-7

51st Minute – Penalty Conceded by The Golden Eagles:
Russia’s comeback was momentarily halted when they conceded a penalty near their try line. However, The Ravens were unable to capitalize, with a failed attempt at the posts keeping the scoreline unchanged. Score: Kingdom of Saint Paul 14-7

55th Minute: Russia equalized soon after with an impressive try from Boris Meaiur, who bulldozed his way past the Raven's defense. The following kick for polls by Axlyan brought the match level and shifted the game’s momentum towards the Golden Eagles. Score: Kingdom of Saint Paul 14-14

60th Minute – Red Card for The Golden Eagles:
Drama unfolded when Borat Cohen received a red card for a reckless high tackle almost resulting in serious injury to John Moray, reducing the Golden Eagles to 14 men. This could have been a game-changing moment, putting immense pressure on the Russian side to hold firm with a man down.

67th Minute: Despite the red card, Russia surged ahead with a stunning try from Dekuilan Vlad, who broke through a chaotic ruck to score. Axlyan’s precision from the tee gave Russia the lead for the first time after many close moments and a grueling 67 minutes into the match. Score: Russian Socialist Federations 21-14

73rd Minute: The Ravens capitalized on the Golden Eagle's reduced numbers with Ross Thorney smashing through for Saint Paul’s third try. MacMorrison was flawless with the conversion and swiftly kicking the ball through the polls, leveling the game again and continuing the tense and nail biting closeness between the teams this match. Score: Russian Socialist Federations 21-21

78th Minute: In the closing stages, Russia edged ahead once more as Uman Pyotar powered over the try line. The Golden Eagles’ resilience showed, despite being down a man, and Axlyan added the conversion to put them 7 points up. Score: Russian Socialist Federations 28-21

80th Minute: Russia sealed their victory in the final moments, as Oman Uraiyur was tackled he passed the ball to Dekuilan Vlad who charged down the right wing to score the match-clinching try that would seal the intense match. However Axlyan missed the conversion. Score: Russian Socialist Federations 33-21

Full-Time Score: Golden Eagles 33 - 21 Saint Paul Raven's

Commentators’ Summary:

Commentator 1: “What a thrilling match this turned out to be! The Golden Eagles were simply relentless today, even after they were reduced to 14 men following that red card. Despite the setback, they managed to dig deep, and their cohesion under pressure was impressive. Their forwards, especially, were exceptional, delivering in critical moments.”

Commentator 2: “The Ravens came out firing early on, those two quick tries really gave them the momentum, but once Russia found their footing, it became clear that the Golden Eagles weren’t going to be fazed. That red card to Borat Cohen could have been a game-changer, but Russia’s tactical discipline and commitment in the second half were superb.”

Commentator 1: “You're right, the Ravens showed real heart throughout, especially in the second half when they managed to bring the game level. There were some flashes of brilliance from their key players, like the line break from Tommy Reed and Thorney’s late try, but Russia’s counterattacks, particularly after that line break in the 73rd minute, really shifted the momentum in their favor.”

Commentator 2: “The missed tackles and penalties from The Ravens also cost them at crucial times, allowing Russia to gain ground and keep the pressure on. Still, The Ravens fought hard and nearly turned it around, but the Golden Eagles’ ability to capitalize on mistakes made the difference.”

Final Thoughts:

Despite being reduced to 14 players, the Golden Eagles of Russia triumphed over The Ravens from Saint Paul with a strong 33-21 victory. The Golden Eagles’ ability to capitalize on the Raven's errors, combined with tactical brilliance and precise kicking from Blake Axlyan, secured their win. The Ravens displayed heart and skill, but the day belonged to the Golden Eagles in what was an action-packed and highly entertaining match.

Fredrick Norström,
First Minister of the Armed Republic of Katti

Dear First Minister Norström,

We are happy to hear your response. We understand that Katti will be naturally protective of its industrial interests, so we propose to triple our investment to 15 billion USD, in exchange for a 7% reduction in tariffs to a standard 11% on Pauline imports. We hope this will be a more acceptable proposal to your nation, and will truly let both Katti's and Saint Paul's economies prosper.

We are also pleased to hear your response in regard to the diplomatic front. I have personally selected Ambassador James Christ, 45 years of age and with ample experience, to lead the 15-man Pauline diplomatic team to Katti. We hope that he can enter the country to sign the non-aggression pact, and also hope to hear from you regarding your choice of Ambassador, who will be well-housed in Saint Paul City.

I believe that this has been an extremely constructive and productive conversation, and I extend my gratitude for it.

Yours sincerely,
Lord D. Richard Lirquhart, CJ
Vice-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, KSP Civil Service

Given how the legendary metal band Death is widely loved in Natlan, Mavuika has enacted a contest to create our first national Death Cover Band. A huge talent show is forming across Natlan, with all metal musicians trying out to hopefully make this band a reality.

Dear Lord D. Richard Lirquhar,

On behalf of Katti, I would like to formally accept your proposal. I will dispatch our Foreign Affairs Minister to Saint Paul City to finalise the terms of this agreement.

For our embassy, we will be dispatching former General-turned-Diplomat Ntumba Forsberg alongside an 8-man team of trained diplomats. Due to our instability, we have a lack of properly experienced Ambassadors, so I will have to ask you to forgive any misgivings you have over the choice of our diplomatic team.

Thank you for your time and your investment,
Fredrick Norström,
First Minister of the Armed Republic of Katti

The Democratic Republic of Roentgenia

Dear Mr. Fredrick Norström, First Minister of Katti,

Roentgenia would like to sign a deal with Katti if you would permit. Roentgenia requires Uranium to power its military and to fuel its nuclear power plants. We would like to import Uranium from your nation. If you could deduct your export taxation rate by just 3-4%, it would be really appreciated. In return, vessels from Katti will be allowed to import automobiles to their nation for a flat tax rate of just 5%.

We are eager for your response.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,
Sylvester Greenwood,
President of the State Of Roentgenia
