Of course, I'm not a resident, but surely the automatic citizenship to WA members is a security risk? After all, raiders usually have WA membership on their nations...

A very good point. The law will no doubt need some tweaking into the future, but we're just trying to get a base model to work with at the moment.

Hagston wrote:As the Hagstonian parliament assembles for the first time since the election, a number of major bills have been proposed.

Perhaps most notably, is the proposal drafted by the increasingly influencial LINK Party, that aims to reconstruct the way the labour force functions. A four-day working week is a concept that has been brought to the parliament many times before, but has never taken off. However, as the dynamic of the country changes, more notice has been taken this time around.

The bill seeks to increase worker productivity and the welfare of the population, by giving workers the opportunity to work less, and rest more. Weekend penalty rates would be applied to an extra day of the week, to encourage employers to follow the system.

Unsurprisingly, the proposal has been met with much opposition.

The opposition party, Foundation, claims that such a system would damage the economy, as less progress would be made during the working week. They also believe that employers, such as those in the hospitality and retail industries who would normally operate on the weekend anyway, would face increasing costs to operate, shattering multiple businesses across the country.

The Government is yet to comment, so far remaining neutral to the matter.

Hagston wrote:Revisions have been made to the proposal, and major inconsistencies ruled out. A much cleaner bill attempting to implement a 36h week, up from a 32h week, has been brought to Parliament, and will be put to vote at the next assembly.

The proposal has the support of all four drafting LINK Party MPs (OOC: can't think of an original name for them yet). Foundation plans to vote against, as well as the Country Party. Citizens is likely to vote for, although some MPs have expressed the possibility of crossing the floor. If this is the case, the vote of Durkst is very important. No comment has been made from this party.

Many companies and businesses across the nation already independently adopt this system, or that of a similar structure. They mostly welcome legislation that would help to standardise the system, to make trade and communication more flexible between business partners. They just hope the parties they voted for have the same ideas.

Parliament was back in session once again, with the working week debate top of the priority list. The week's media cycle has been filled with fiery debate and awkward interviews, giving the vote an exciting lead-up.

And for many of the nation's workers, an exciting result was announced.

40 For
32 Against

LINK voted as expected, as did Foundation and The Country Party. Citizens managed to get members back on their side, with only one crossing the floor and voting against the bill. Durkst had the deciding vote, of which they used to pass the bill.

The 36h working week is expected to be trialled and implemented slowly throughout the nation and its industries.

RP:TL2 - Koxoriek election reform bill
The 38th Koxoriek Parliament has convened to vote on the election reform bill. First it will be voted on by the 320 members of the Imperial House, then by the 120 Federal Council seats. If both houses pass it, it will become law, but if one does not, the bill will go through a revision and amendment process, which will be repeated until both houses pass it. The king technically needs to give his consent to pass the law, but ever since an incident in 2013 when he refused to pass a law to limit his powers, the royal assent requirement has been indefinitely suspended.

RP:TL2 - Koxoriek election reform bill
After days of campaigning and voting, the Imperial House has reached a verdict on the term length bill. As predicted, a large number of seats held by the ruling Humanist party - 159 out of 171 - voted in favour of the bill, but more unexpectedly, a significant number of Nationalist seats - 43 out of 98 - also voted for it. Only 7 out of the 45 Republicans voted for it. The one seat each held by the Socialist and New Liberal parties both voted in favour of it, as did 3 of the 4 independents. In all, 214 members of the House voted in favour of the bill and 106 against, enough for a significant majority and a passage to the Federal Council, where a 2/3 majority is required for the bill to pass.

TV Troubles

The popular Hagstonian childrens' television show, Sammy Seal, has become the subject of debate.

The show takes place in the Rhegian Ocean, following the main character of Sammy Seal. Many side characters, such as Oscar Octopus and Captain Chris interact with Sammy throughout the series, often leading to some kind of adventure or mission.

As the highly popular show released its newest episode at the start of the week, many parents and critics have complained of the depiction of a cigar. Shelly Shark was accompanying Sammy on a rescue mission, when she was spotted blowing bubbles from a piece of coral lodged in between her teeth.

Many say behaviours like this should not be shown or promoted in childrens' television, or even television at all. The Hagstonian Television Regulation Board has received a record number of complaints, promting an investigation into current TV standards.

While the fire burns behind the scenes, the children of Hagston are just happy to see Sammy Seal back in their living rooms once more.

This dispatch talks about pacifism, it should fit in your category:

PEACEPROMOTING FACTION

Why We Fight for Pacifism

Why We Fight for Pacifism, we Fight for Pacifism, as it makes your region safer and it prevents your region from condemnations, many regions and nations have been condemned because of raiding and defending, we thought of now giving raided regions natives their voices again to make their community better in a passive way, that's why we have left this raiding policy

Our old military organisation, the Lightning Army, was closed because of having too many enemies, which
could potentially result in a possible condemnation from either the enemies or by newsreader nations, we have promised that
we would follow TLA's purpose and be the successors of it, but we have failed, after we realised the error we have committed
after we have seen SC condemnations and their actual purpose seriously.

Because of this development, we stood up for pacifism, as our States also did, we also created the Peacepromoting faction, to show our fanatism for pacifism.

"We will bring Peace to NationStates as a whole." That's our Promise that if we Break, we will suffer the consequences of breaking it.

So to fullfill our Promise, join us on our mission to make NationStates peaceful and better, and to prevent the condemnations that come from raiding or defending.

Hereby publishes and declares Ethemalia, Grand Peace Promoter of the South African Union and the South African Union's Peacepromoting Faction.
