When Alice first stumbles through the doors, it seems like a bucket of water has been dumped over her head; her skin glistens, her hair and clothes are soaked, and -- more concerningly -- patches of her skin are beginning to puff up and bruise. There's some congealing blood to be found among the bruises too.

She grabs a kettle of just-under-boiling water from the fire and pours it out into a basin of what smells like mint; once the tea has steeped for a few moments, she mixes cool water in with it and starts to wash her stinging skin. It's all executed rather calmly, like nothing could possibly be perceived as being wrong.
