To be as nice as possible:

I dislike that Biden is an empty shell being exploited by his wife and others. If he were a fully cognizant individual he probably would have been at least as corrupt and evil as LBJ (if not more so) but he and the press would have been able to hide the corruption better. The gross incompetence of his handlers not even the mainstream media can ameliorate.

Carter had enough sense not to ignore the clear game plan of a nuclear power for gobbling up another state, let the nuclear power advance, then afterward try to back that power into a corner and then dare it not to use nukes. He didn't have much sense in whom he appointed around him. I think he really believed the progressive lies. and pivoted to a more Christian understanding after his presidency.

Buchanan was the wrong man for the wrong job in the wrong place at the wrong time in history. He was pro-slavery. Had he been born 70 years later or 70 years earlier he would probably be considered just one of the Democrat pack who wouldn't have been asked to run for president. Had he stayed in diplomatic service he might have even been considered one of our better ambassadors.

I think because he was in overseas during the formation of the US abolition crisis that he never gain a reasonable grasp of the gravity and complexity of the situation. He treated abolition like hyperbole and empty threats not realizing it was a driving force behind the American spirit. At best his misunderstanding paralyzed him to inaction which is bad enough. It is conceivable that might have been passive deliberately. That would make not only make him one of the worst presidents, but also one of the most evil men in history.

Evil men beget evil societies (deprivation and denial of life, liberty, and property). They have no place in polity.

Biden has brought back to us the worst of the 60s and 70s. Ideas have consequences. Do stupid things, win stupid prizes. Ideas of 20th Century big government illiberal "Liberalism" that brought about the horrors of the social unrest of the Cultural Revolution, national malaise and economic destruction didn't work back then. Why do Leftists think that it will work this time around?

It works for their plan to destabilize the United States enough to implement their truly radical communist agenda

Tulsi Gabbard's "Dear John" speech to the Democratic Party is worth listening to. I hope she does well as an Independent. It would be nice if she eventually gives up her big government ideas.

Even if I don't agree with her most of the time it's nice to see some independent thinkers remain on the left

Yep. Ms. Gabbard is thoughtful, personable, capable (can shoulder responsibility, knows how to delegate authority), and can handle a weapon. She a human being who sees other's as fellow human beings -- exactly what the Democratic Party of the US is sorely in need of in the early 21st Century. It seems that she understands the basic concepts of liberty and constitution, but sadly, is still for big government, and high taxes.

Hopefully after leaving the Democrat Party she can leave the big government mentality.

Can I get specific laws and instances where the State usurped the role of the churches, friendly societies, and voluntary organizations in providing social assistance and charity?

The question is about 50 years beyond the ability of the average person to quickly locate common sense bibliographical references from that perspective in that line of questioning in media (books, magazines etc.). Media answering questions framed that way would have been considered right-wing conspiracy theories and eventually removed from shelves controlled by the ALA, Academia, and media in real time (1960s, 70s, and 80s for LBJ's Great Society and the 1930s, 40s, and 50s for FDR's Raw Deal). By the 70s it was very hard outside of special interest groups like Young Americans For Freedom, and John Birch Society (and finding the right JBS Chapter) to locate specifically accurate material outside of personal libraries (which get scattered to the wind when the person dies), even though society was much more Christian back then.

I would recommend contacting a research librarian from a Liberty-loving intellectual university trying to keep Americanism alive (and such not hostile to Biblical Christianity) such as Hillsdale College, or a Conservative Evangelical Seminary such as Calvin College, or perhaps you can find somebody at New Saint Andrews College. I had some luck in the 00s with Mercator group within George Mason University. In the 90s FEE (Foundation For Economic Education) was a good source for tracking down specific failed legislation from a classical Liberty perspective. LoC and NA are basically worthless I will keep my eyes open and get back to you when I find some good material.

There are some really good candidates running for senate and governor in some of these races. But remember the even more important races are often the school board races. Elect liberty minded, common sense candidates who will uphold common sense

Like with Biden, I am saddened that there are not people around Fetterman that care about him enough to tell him the truth that he is not capable of holding office. But ideologues blinded by their own hubris tend to see the truth as a commodity to dispensed sparingly if at all. Why shine the light of truth, when maintaining a web of lies grants power over others? Deception is oppressive. Abiding in truth liberates, and where there is liberty there is no need for coercion or deception.
