Official Message from Hakelforge Public Relations Ministry
Following a joint meeting by government officials from the CIC, HSA, HSRaEC, CBLOS, and NSRC a new "Hakelforge Industrial Space Expansion/Exploration", or HISE^2 (whatever that means), task force has been created to manage the new effort to expand Hakelforge's space industry in a cheap, safe, and cost effective manner. After much deliberation on the matter they also decided that instead of constructing a "space elevator", as was previously announced, they will instead endeavor to construct a "sky hook". This change was made due to the fact that it will save significant quantities time and money due to the fact that the materials necessary for a "sky hook" currently exist. A sky hook, for those who do not know, is essentially a hook that is being hung from space down into the atmosphere. While it does require something to actually fly up to it to be hooked and carried into space, this something will be significantly cheaper and safer than a rocket. With this new development, they say that they should be able to reach their goals even faster than with a space elevator.

Effectively, it's a material that allows for great energy production for relatively minimal expenditure, and little pollution. This also makes it excellent for building weapons.

"We are offering an economic, and, if you are willing, military alliance. Such an alliance between our prosperous nations will help us stem the tide of global uncertainty. We can ensure that the fundamental questions being raised are answered in favor of our interests. We can finally decide for the world that interventionism and playing world-police is too dangerous, and must be stopped."

"What are you offering for trade? And what would be the terms of such a military alliance? A pact to carve up Jiyutera? A deal to protect ourselves?"

Hayden gets up and strides over to the window, looking out at the lights of the city below.

"And what would be your price for all this? What would you expect from us?"

Speaking of said space laser, I'm assuming it's an anti-missile defense system, rather than an offensive weapon. Am I correct?

Well, i had to make a decision and i think writing down the whole "return" thing is gonna take a lot longer than i want so i'm just gonna toss a quick think tomorrow for that instead

it's a weapon

Like, hit targets on the ground? From geosync orbit? Jesus.

Since when is minimal pollution optimal for weapons?

Publica wrote:Like, hit targets on the ground? From geosync orbit? Jesus.

I feel like if it's a laser then the main problem would be seeing what you're shooting at.

Since always. The smaller the weapon can be while retaining effectiveness, the better for the soldier. More efficient weapons need smaller power sources.

The main problem would be the power requirements. Lasers require huge amounts of power to destroy things, and if you're hitting something from so far away, you need even more power. To destroy 100 meters for example, you need the power output of a small power station. I think you'd need something like 200MW? Which increases as the area increases. Hitting targets at such ranges would require little aiming, just some maths.

I misspelled pollution and it autocorrected to solution, sorry.

Ah, I see. minimal pollution isn't necessarily a benefit for weapons, but you generally speaking don't want to be polluting stuff you wish to own. It's one of the reason nukes are awful for conventional war.

Personally, I'm of the "when you're offered bioweapons you say yes!" mindset, but whatever...

There's a difference between "we're going to kill everything over there, stay out of the way" and "we're going to make an area completely unlivable for the next century".

"It would be an agreement of mutual defense, Mr. Hayden. Not a deal to carve up foreign land or invade innocent nations. As you said, it's a deal to protect ourselves. Kronomia would expect nothing more than your military cooperation in the event that one of our nations are attacked."

The council meets again.

The dust had finally settled a few days ago, and the Commune seemed more stable than ever with the public announcement of both the destruction of the counter-revolutionaries and the reveal of the R4C laser. The rupture in the Jiyuteran Peace was patched, and it seemed that everything would be alright.

So naturally, the question of what to do with historium came up in passing during some random argument during the vote to carry out the attack on the counter-revolutionaries, and that topic threatened to rupture the peace once again. It has proven time and time again to be a great boon to Jiyutera on the world stage, but it also seems to be the reason the nation is in any danger nowadays. See: Kronomian invasion of Jiyutera.

It was evident that the policy of hoarding it all was ineffective, and incredibly evident (painfully so) that it's only putting the Federation in a great deal of danger. Therefore even though there was ample resistance to the cause, it was eventually decided that Jiyutera should now begin to export the wonder mineral of historium. The money made from this could ensure Jiyutera's place in the world as a genuine superpower, and you know money is always tempting.

The Commune publicly announces its intention to sell the mineral at a cripplingly expensive price.

President Teris scoffs at the news. Are you serious? After all the trouble to invade that backwater to get some of that green rock, and after countless negotiations that went nowhere, now they're just selling it?? Pfft! Whatever. Our future invasion plans remain the same. And the Osseus Project is on schedule... should be ready to announce to the world soon...

And that space laser cannot be ignored. President Teris ponders the possibility of repairing ATKOS to full operational capacity. He remembers his engineers told him it would be more costly than just sending up another one....

Out-of-Character

Apologies my replies are taking a while. To kick off my side of the cold war RP, I shall announce the Osseus Project in a few days.

OCC :Announcement!

So, I gatta say, I am sorry for the big delay in the Map update, These last few weeks have been a tad hectic in College and I've been readying myself to fly to Chicago because well, I've never flown and I'm absolutely terrified of any height, so should be fun.

I'm also getting a new Laptop finally, so Thats nice, I'll try to get the update out this weekend so it'd be out before my Trip.

Now, Time to RP!

IC:Smallish objects From various airbases and Space sites across the Empire would launch into Orbit around the planet, these objects were Small, atleast in terms of Military Satellites, hopefully small enough to be hard to detect, but if detected, numerous enough to overwhelm any target its assigned.

They were in the simplest terms, a independent or controller able thruster and several Missile pods attached to a lightweight body, Numbers were their only real advantage, They were either indirectly controlled or controlled via several signal Sats sent within the swarm, able to remotely control the "dumb Sats" around them, these Signal sats were controlled from various command points from across the Empire.

There would be reports on this, with any sightings covered up.

In other News, Manchuria offers to buy Historium from Jiyutera at any price the Jiyuterans set up.

OCC+: Did we ever name the Planet Libertas is set in?

Also Esagreum, How'd ya feel about a Rp?

No, but we definitely should. I don't think it should be called planet Libertas, or planet Earth. That's too basic. We should give it a cool name, like Nirn or Arrakis or something

Think we've been calling it Libertas this whole time but would be cool to name it differently.
Congrats on laptop upgrade too!
