On Wikipedia's list of national days it's listed as a national day, but not an independence day, and Hungary wasn't founded on this date.

fun fact: some hungarian opposition leaders during ww1 were talking with the entente about declaring independence and working with the entente, against Austria, if they did worse than they did on the Italian front
