The Lupux by N.A. Clegg

As most people in Chycotia know, the Lupux is a member of the canidae family. The lupux is also known as the canis callidus meaning "clever dog" in Latin. They are cautious of people and will not attack them unless they feel threatened or if in their own territory. One can recognize a lupux by its sleek brown coat, white underbelly, and bushy tail. The adult male is averaged to about three and a half feet tall weighing in around fifty-eight puonds. The average female is usually three feet tall weighing around fifty pounds. They can run up to 40mph and can jump over twice their height. The lupux has a total of fourty-eight teeth with a dental of 3.1.4.2 over 3.1.4.3, just like all canids with the exception of the bush dog. This canid, also unlike the bush dog, hunt during the night and primarily eat eggs, birds, young deer, straying cattle sheep, and rabbits. however some are found eating peaches, plums, apricots, and other fruits along with grass to improve digestion.
Like most canids the lupux is territorial and lives in small groups, holding between five to nine members. The group stays behind while an adult male and female travel to hunt. Whenever a young Lupux, or pup, gets old enough it will accompany one of the two on a hunting expedition. Only the Alpha male and female breed and while the Alpha female has pups she does not hunt, instead one of the other members of the group go in her place. The average female gives birth to around five pups and will eat one if it is unhealthy or has died. Once a male or female gets too old they separate from the group and find a safe place away from the groups dens to die. Their average lifespan is six years, two more years than the fox.
