The Athenaeum of War

In 1986, Geologists from Azuria detected a massive, empty space beneath the Konya Desert in Turkey. Months of digging led to the discovery of a massive cavern. During the first expeditions of the underground cave formation, the depth of the cavern was measured to be 6,976 feet. Research continued for 2 years, until in 1988 when a team of geologists found a massive, sealed door deep beneath the caverns. It took 9 months to open the door without damaging the structure. With the help of Azurian archaeologists, the research team responsible for finding the structure hoped to find more answers on how and why it was there. What they found was a massive archive of scrolls, manuscripts, books, records, etc.

When the researchers entered the sanctum, it was not long until they found it increasingly difficult to map the area. They found several doors leading to more chambers which also had chambers within them. The largest room they were able to measure spanned a distance of 12,800 acres before finally giving up and returning to camp. Attempts in electronically mapping the area were unsuccessful as some of their electronic equipment began to malfunction, as they ventured deeper into the sanctum.

When research was conducted further by the archaeologists, what appeared within the documents were detailed descriptions of wars and battles, tactics, timeline occurrences of conflicts, battle plans, blueprints for the creation of an endless variety of weapons, maps and locations, names, etc. Some books explained events as far back as 10,000 B.C. while some contained descriptions of conflicts that never happened or could’ve happened. What scared some of the researchers were the books that contained highly detailed events of what they think is to come. All the books were marked by a mysterious initial of Z.R.X., written in an archaic and almost forgotten dialect.

Many of the researchers, realizing the danger of their discovery, left the sanctum and voted to seal the doors to the chambers indefinitely, keeping the secret to themselves. One researcher, by the name of Larry Vargas, decided to do the opposite. On the night of the chambers’ discovery, Vargas attempted to smuggle several documents from the library. Mysteriously, the ceiling near the entrance to the sanctum caved in and crushed Vargas before escaping. Unfortunately, the documents he smuggled made it out.

In an attempt to destroy the documents the research team leader, Dr. Mitchell Swan, and several of his members tried to burn them, but failed. The documents seemed to be fire resistant. In 2002, Dr. Swan was found dead in his house due to cardiac arrest. Inside his basement contained the smuggled documents, as well as photographs of the expedition into the sanctum. In 2003, an operation, lead by Supreme Leader Dietrich König was conducted in an effort to recover more of these documents. Several tons of equipment were used to clear the area of debris in order to gain access of the sanctum. The operation ended in failure when Dietrich König died in 2015 due to old age. Excavators looked as if they made no progress and with a final analysis of the whole area, scanners revealed as if the whole chamber disappeared.

Although labeled as The Athenaeum of War, Supreme Leader Dietrich König believed that there were more secrets being held within it, other than just records of wars and conflict.

The World Wars: 1914 - 1945
In the wake of WWI, DML was a small but moderately powerful organization. It was founded near Constantinople and Alexandria. In those days, DML was as unknown as the far reaches of the universe. Secrecy was the rule of the organization. It fought on all frontiers from 1914 to 1920. It was a military without borders. The views of the leaders involved in WWI never affected the mentality of their soldiers for they all had pledged loyalty to its leader, Supreme Leader Ariel Kamakura. A code was given to all soldiers to which they must follow at all times. Dicipline was imperative to the success of each soldier. When an unfair treaty was struck upon a nation named Germany at the end of the war, there was no doubt, revenge was going to take place. DML bided their time and adopted isolationism along with the people of the West, a nation named USA.

WWII: 1 September 1939-The invasion of Poland.
"We knew this day would come..."
~Ariel Kamakura

Every soldier that day watched as the Blitzkrieg took place. Germany had risen again.

7 December 1941-Pearl Harbor
"This is getting out of hand, we must put a stop to this”
~Ariel Kamakura

It was at this point that Deus Mercenary Leadership chose a side in the war. It was also this day where they began to transfer their troops discreetly into the soldieries of USA, Canada, USSR, Britain and Australia.

6 August 1945-Hiroshima and Nagasaki
"A new era has emerged...prepare for there will be more wars to follow..."
~General Acheron Malgus

When the bombs dropped, many people saw it as the nearing end, others saw it as a necessity, some even saw it as opportunity. Things would never be the same again.

The Cold War: 1945 - 1991

The rivalry of the of the East and the West and their differences in ideologies brought out the true intentions of a lone, shadow nation. Military supremacy and intel on everything was their prime motive.

Not a second was wasted in monitoring all activities of these alliances called NATO and Warsaw Pact. Every single weapons technology files, tactics, and plans were carefully looked at and was submitted to their spies. Deus Mercenary Leadership was able to uncover members, missions, briefings, etc. of NSA, CIA, FBI as well as MI6 and KGB, the intelligence agencies of other nations. They never wanted war, only knowledge.

During the whole conflict, an estimated 60,000 spies were delivered to the nations of America, England, and Russia as well as the Soviet satellites and other NATO allied nations. Whenever one of DML’s spies were caught they simply blamed it on the US or the Soviets. A few days later they were killed, or so they say.

Neither NATO or Warsaw Pact ever thought of a third participant in the Cold War. When Gorbachev called for Perestroika and Glasnost, I knew that the Cold War was at it's final stages, it was too unlikely of them to do such a thing if stability was their objective. By 1991, all of USSR was dissolved, leaving America as the victor.

National Dismantlement War: ?

In the future, several companies held a worldwide coup to demolish all national borders. The companies involved acted on their own accord. These companies, once regulated by Deus Mercenary Leadership, separated themselves to further their own agenda.

The companies became so powerful that they rivaled those of foreign superpowers. Most of their power stemmed from the construction of nightmarish weapons. Under direct orders from Zio Ryujin, the nation known as Deus Mercenary Leadership declared war on the companies.

Eventually, the nations of the world fell one by one due to economic embargoes imposed by these companies on nations with their superior military. With each nation that fell, the companies grew in strength. Their victories allowed them to gain even more resources, manpower, and establish massive territories. Midway through the conflict, war looked as if it would cease to end. Eventually, competition between the companies became more and more heated and rivalries began to emanate between the corporations. Skirmishes between the companies started to arise. It wasn’t long before they began warring against each other.

Taking advantage of the situation, the companies were successfully infiltrated through direct orders from Zio Ryujin. All heads of the companies were executed one by one in the process. From behind the eyes and ears of the masses, the great and powerful companies thought to be dead would soon be under the hands of a single individual, Zio Ryujin.
