Starting:
For those new to the Metaverse or those who have just become acquainted with the topic of geopolitics.
  1. NationStates is a nation simulator, and is generally the most popular in this category. Founded in 2002 by Max Barry, NationStates is one of the best nation simulators ever (in my opinion):

    1. You will start by answering a questionnaire about contemporary issues of today, depending on your choices, classification and political changes may occur in your nation.

    2. After this, the basic settings will appear, such as the name of the nation, the national currency, the national animal, the classification (capitalist, socialist, dictatorship...) and the denomination.

    3. You are now the all-powerful leader of your nation! From this moment on, you will command your nation with ≈5,000,000 in habitants, with the number growing every day.
You will receive 4 questions called Problems, you can skip them by pressing the button discard problem, or answer them: this guarantees you national statistics, banners and policies .

  2. After this, your nation will begin to progress within the metaverse, unlocking ranks, custom banners, and some extra options for their nation. Additionally, you can change your basic information in Settings.

  3. Your nation can now be classified into one type, There are more than 27 types of government in NationStates, and they are classified as: Economic freedom, political freedom, and personal freedom.

Developing:

  1. As you solve problems and your population grows, you unlock certain modifications, such as custom banners, your country's capital (starting at a population of 250 million), leader of the nation (starting at 500 million), the nation's title (starting at 750 million), and religion (after 1 billion).

    1. You can unlock some exotic banners or even custom banners by reaching certain population peaks in your nation.

    2. This is a good time to join the World Assembly (abbreviated as WA), This is where the main decisions about the metaverse are made. To join the WA, you need an email address to confirm your membership in the assembly (More information in the section below).

    3. You can also create Factbooks and Dispatches about your nation or region, ranging from tales of your nation to complex stories that extend beyond the metaverse. They exist There are 4 types of dispatch and 24 subtypes (or themes if you prefer).
New problems will appear from time to time, solve them and create your own ranking!

  2. You are in a place that we call a Region (a grouping of nations). They can be Fortresses, Frontiers, Feeders, Sinkers, Restorers, or even War Zones.

    1. Fortress: These are regions where the highest authority is the Governor, who cannot be replaced by endorsements and may or may not have a dynasty (successors). Fortresses generally do not suffer intrusive attacks because there are few breaches for one to occur, unlike Frontiers.

    2. Frontiers: These are regions where the highest authority is the WA Delegate, which can be replaced by the number of endorsements, In some strongholds, Delegate WA also holds an Executive position, but not above the governor; if the opposite were true, the term (non-executive) would appear immediately after WA Delegate.Borders possess an anatomy of magnetism, which can be increased or decreased in terms of regional structure and endorsements by the WA delegate. Borders are more vulnerable to invasions because they lack a solid power base in the region, therefore attracting more nations that are founded on them (and on Feeder territories), eliminating the need for recruitment telegrams.

    3. GCRs (Game-Created Region's): These are regions that were not founded by nations and already exist in the game, including Feeders, Sinkers, Restorers, and War Zones.

      1. Feeders: These regions are called Pacifics regions and together they attract 50% of all nations that are founded (the other half being divided among the frontiers). They have a structure similar to that of borders, except that they CANNOT become a fortress and do not have a founder. These regions contain thousands of nations, and even though they may not be the largest regions in the metaverse, they are subsequently among the most influential.

      2. Sinkers: These are regions where nations expelled/rejected from other regions meet; they have a system similar to a border, except that they do NOT have a founder and cannot expel nations, They are not targets for mass invasions and do not attract newly created nations.

      3. Restorers: These are regions where nations that have ceased to exist are refounded. They are massively larger than other regions; and could always be among the top 5 in the metaverse. They have no founder and do not attract new nations within their ranks.

      4. Warzones: These are regions that do not have a defined government, or at least that was the case. Some characteristics of a War Zone include: No influence spending required to expel nations, limited time of maximum authority, no production of nations within it, and a low number of nations. They ended up being a technical failure due to a lack of interest in invading these regions for multiple reasons.

Moving forward
After this recommended period, it's finally time to explore more complex topics about the region and the metaverse itself! Things like endorsements, easter eggs, cards, and the forum will be covered here:

  1. Endorsement system
At this stage, if the nation registers for the World Assembly of the metaverse, it will unlock the endorsement system. The endorsement system can have many functions within a region, some such as increasing influence among nations in a region, or even directing endorsements to WA delegates in the region. In general, it is an important tool for both Fortresses and Frontiers (other types also count), which prevents mass invasions and banishments at the border (and rarely at a stronghold) and can boost the growth of a Frontier in the NationStates.

  2. Easter eggs in NationStates
The easter eggs in Nationstes are some custom issues which can be unlocked by following population, ranking, customization, or even time period requirements. They are like "trophies" for older and more experienced nations within the metaverse. Some of these issues won't always conform to the formality the game proposes; they are often jokes or even out of context (breaking the fourth wall/relating to the metaverse itself). There are 13 easter eggs that can be discovered in total, with only 1 not available for acquisition.

  3. NationStates Card System
The cards in this game are an important part of the development of the metaverse itself, comprising an entire market with stocks, auctions and sales of them. The card system itself doesn't affect your nation's status, but it can increase the "international goods" ranking. There are rarities for each card type:

    1. Common: This is the most common type of card rarity. Card bots and newly arrived users can receive this rarity. With an average of 2-5 ratings (10%) and 1-2 ratings (5%).

    2. Uncommon: A type of rarity that is somewhat common. Present in players with short playtime or inactive players. They have an average of 3-5 ratings (5%) and 1 rating (1%). Factors such as in-game purchases can increase the rarity of a card.

    3. Rare: Some nations may obtain this rarity, but not many. Present in older or more experienced players, or those who retained titles such as WA Delegate in a season update. Other ways to obtain a rare rarity would be to have ≈3 ratings (1%) and/or have many ratings (10%).

    4. Ultrarare: A rare find among nations, with few possessing an equal or greater rarity. Some factors include creator of edits (issues), High Influence Delegate, +5 ratings 1%, having purchases within NationStates, high duration nation in NationStates, easter eggs and massive endorsements in the nation.

    5. Epic: An extremely rare level of quality for a card. Less than 10% of nations in NationStates possess epic or legendary quality. Some factors include the creation of resolutions in the World Assembly (whether the General Assembly or the Security Council), Custom nation titles (general assembly editor, bug hunter, problem creator), Condemnations and praise for the nation, high regional influence, +10 ratings 1%, +4 easter eggs collected.

    6. Legendary: The rarest card type in the entire game, with less than 1% of players possessing this rarity. They are composed of NationStates veterans, players who have contributed significantly within the metaverse, moderators, administrators or issue editors. Factors that immediately give you legendary status are being a moderator, administrator, or issue editor. Other factors include +8 easter eggs collected, experienced troublemaker, creator of historical resolutions from the ancient assembly, Founder/governor of a region, high influence and endorsements in a region, population above 5 billion and 15-20 rankings (1%).

  4. The external forum of Nationsates
There are regional forums, which can be large or small, or there can be an external forum, which in this case is the Nationstes forum.
With over 20 years of history, this is one of the largest forums ever created, with hundreds of thousands of nations participating. It is one of the main forms of external communication in the metaverse, being divided into categories and subcategories. They have their own rules and roleplaying style, with topics both within and outside of Nationsates. To participate, simply connect with your nation to the Nationsates forum.
A complete guide to all Easter eggs and how to get them

problems:

Ever wondered why you get some issues but never get the others? Or why some are rare and others are common? Below I'll attempt to provide an overview of the different issue types and the methods to unlocking them. Basically there are 5 types.

1. The normal ones

These make up most of the issues you get. They are randomly selected and placed in your inbox. There are no preconditions to satisfy to get them. From my estimate, 9 out of 10 issues on NS are of this type.

Examples:

2. The issues that get unlocked by population size

The second type of issues are those that are unlocked by your population size. The process is automatic, you will get these issues when you reach a certain population milestone.

Examples:

If you choose to dismiss these issues when you first got them, or picked the wrong option that you regret later (for example, if you selected not to build a Capital City when given the choice). You will still be able to get these issues. Once they get unlocked, they act just like normal issues. They will be randomly selected and placed in your inbox until you've filled up your Capital City, Leader, and National Religion fields.

3. Issues that get unlocked by an issue option

The third group is determined by your actions. You won't get them automatically. They are triggered if you picked a certain issue option beforehand. It's best to illustrate with an example.

#034: Don't Puff On Me, Say Non-Smokers
The Issue
There is a growing call within @@NAME@@ to abolish smoking in public areas.

The Debate
1. "I'm in full support of this motion," says man on the street Konrad Wu. "I'm sick of being stuck behind smokers, sucking in their pollution! They can light up in the privacy of their own homes, if they want."
Result: smoking is banned in public areas.

2. "What's so special about their homes?" says anti-smoking campaigner Tim Mombota. "The government has a responsibility to stop people from hurting themselves -- it's the same reason we should make them wear seat belts in cars. Sooner or later, they end up in one of @@NAME@@'s hospitals, sucking on taxpayer-funded healthcare. Not that that's why we should ban smoking. We should ban it because we care."
Result: an underground movement of cigarette smokers has sprung up in response to a government ban.

3. "Get your hands off my fag!" wheezes long-time smoker Pete Nguyen. "I've been smoking for fifty years and it's never done me any harm. Helps me concentrate, it does! The government should back off on trying to tell me what I can put into my own body. Telling a smoker he can't light up in a restaurant is discrimination, pure and simple. If you want to put a stop to unfairness, stop that."
Result: eight year-olds can be seen lighting up in public areas.

If you picked Option 2 to ban smoking completely, you will unlock issue #139 below.

#139: Drug Debate Hits The Streets
The Issue
Tens of thousands of citizens have taken to the streets demanding the right to smoke whatever they want, wherever they want.

The Debate
1. "Ever since smoking was banned, I've been a gibbering wreck," laments Kathleen Brown, handing you a cup of strange-smelling tea. "You just don't understand - I need to smoke! And sometimes I need to roll a little bit more than tobacco....(etc, you get the idea, this option to unban smoking, is a direct consequence of the ban you picked from option 2 in Issue #034)

For most cases, the unlocked issue will be randomly delivered. Since there are over 360 issues as of this writing, a random chance is approximately 0.27 percent. (there is only one exception to this rule, which is issue 361. In this case, you will get the follow-up Issue 362 the next day)

Examples:

4. The issues that get unlocked by statistic

The fourth type of issues are those that get unlocked only if you have reached some pre-determined statistic. They are, in a way, similar to the issues that get unlocked by population (Capital, National Leader, and Religion). The only difference is it is not automatic. You will have to swing your nation one way or another to get to them.

The general idea is that the options you picked in daily issues will affect your nation in different ways. Some will increase your Economy, some will increase your taxes, etc. The changes can be seen from the 'Government' indicator pie chart (which shows spending allocation), the various trend graphs, and the nation analysis link (page=compare). These stats can help unlock hidden issues.

Examples:

5. The easter eggs and special issues

The last type of issues are the easter eggs and other special issues. Doing the easter egg ones will get you a special "badge" on your nation's main page. There's a total of 7 easter egg issues out there. The methods to get them are different in each case. They are combination of types 1 to 4.

For a FAQ on how to get them, see discussion here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=193229

Besides Easter eggs, I've also mentioned "special issues", these are very rare issues like #132:World Assembly Woes , which you will only get if you are a WA nation, and commemorative issues like #077: World To End, Or Possibly Just Mark Anniversary (This was a One Year Anniversary issue sent out in 2003. It has now become an Easter Egg issue)

That's all folks!

Notes:
1) I'll be grateful if you can up-vote this dispatch if you think it's informative. ^_^♥
2) I'm doing research on all the issue option results and I'm nearly done. If you would like to help, please take a look at the list of issues I still need results on.
3) If you have a specific question about an issue, please post it in the issues subforum or just TG me. I'll try to help if I'm around.

World Assembly (WA):
  1. The World Assembly is a body composed of multiple nations, with a purpose and ideals similar to the real-world United Nations (UN). Here, numerous issues will be debated, but in general it will be divided into 2 categories:

    1. General Assembly: The first assembly, created to discuss a wide range of issues beyond standard gameplay, here, a greater number of issues will be addressed than the security council. Here there is no specific subject.

    2. Security Council: Reports only on the events and gameplay of NationStates, with Praises¹ and Condemnations² (nation/region), Injunctions³ and Liberations⁴ (region) in addition to declarations and revocations (the latter also present at the General Assembly). This one usually receives more attention due to the fact that it is dedicated to regional gameplay, like our region, for example.

  2. The World Assembly has, at the time of writing, an approximate number of 20,000 nations.
To participate in the assembly, an Email (or Gmail, Hotmail, etc.) is required to receive confirmation and thus participate in the world assembly.

More of the WA:

The World Assembly (WA) is the international political centre of NationStates. Membership in the World Assembly allows a nation to participate in areas of NationStates they wouldn’t otherwise have access to, such as raiding/defending gameplay and voting on General Assembly and Security Council resolutions. Multiple regions in the game also give special benefits to WA-enrolled nations that remain in their region and/or endorse their delegate. A delegate is someone who amplifies the region's position with a stronger vote, gained by earning the endorsements of WA nations within the region. As each player is only allowed to keep one nation enrolled in the World Assembly at a time, it is generally considered a reasonable assessment of the number of individual human people playing NationStates.

A player's "main" nation is usually considered to be where they keep their WA membership when not actively participating in other activities.

Description

The World Assembly as an organisation is broken into two distinct branches, the General Assembly (GA) and the Security Council (SC).

Link

The General Assembly is the equivalent of the real life United Nations General Assembly, and oversees proposals that will affect international relations and overall regulations for member nations. The GA is considered to be an in-character body, and as such regional stats can be affected by the passage or repeal of resolutions.

The Security Council is the equivalent of the real life United Nations Security Council, and votes mostly on gameplay matters including commending or condemning nations or regions and liberating regions. As this is a more out-of-character body, it is mostly concerned with achievement recognition and actions taken within the game.

Any member nation with two endorsements or more can submit proposals to either branch, and World Assembly delegates from each region can vote to approve those proposals. If 6% of delegates approve of a proposal, it will achieve quorum and be presented for a vote. Any nation enrolled in the World Assembly can vote on proposals. If the proposal passes, it is enacted immediately; any necessary stat adjustments or badges will be applied to the nations or regions in question.

Signing up for the World Assembly is a simple process. Go to the World Assembly page on NationStates and click the "Apply to Join" button featured in the screenshot to the right. A confirmation email will be sent to the email you registered with the account. Once you've confirmed it, you're in!

The Delegate

The World Assembly Delegate is a regional office which is automatically elected and held by the nation which has received the greatest number of endorsements in the region. If there is no other nation in the region with an endorsement, a region may have its own delegate with as little as one endorsement given. Delegates command an outsized role in World Assembly Affairs as they are able to cast a vote with a power equal to the number of endorsements they hold, plus one. These votes are typically used as the voice of their region at large, and represent that region's interests. A resolution votes passage or failure, therefore, depends substantially on how these delegates cast such a powerful vote.

For the majority of large regions, the vote of the delegate is typically determined by the opinions of their respective region's World Assembly members. In The North Pacific, the delegate's vote is set to whatever the majority of forum responses vote for in that region's local debate thread. In The East Pacific, the vote is determined by the votes of registered World Assembly Affairs staff members. In Refugia's case, the delegate vote is typically derived after assessing the regional opinion in an debate about the issue, carried out on the regional message board.

The nation a region selects to become the delegate may vary. Some regions have policies in place which provide for the regular election of World Assembly delegates. After such an election, there will be a focused effort to encourage WA members in the region to switch their endorsements to whomever won the previous election. As some endorsements will be lost in this process or not carried over in a timely manner, other regions may choose to have longer or undefined delegate terms in order to strengthen the regional vote.

Delegates as Leaders

Typically, the control over a region is left to the executive founder of a region. However, in the case where the founder has ceased to exist or has left the region, the World Assembly delegate will become the executive power in that region by circumstance. For game created regions, there has never been a founder. Leadership, therefore, is always determined by the World Assembly delegates.

Endorsing

Link

Endorsing other nations is the easiest way to interact with the World Assembly within a region. It's also one of the most beneficial to a region overall. Every nation in a region gains two influence per day, with two more added on for every endorsement they've received. Influence is unique to each region, and accumulates over time. While a regional founder can eject and/or ban any nation from the region for free, any other regional officer with ban permissions must spend their regional influence to do so. By having nations with a lot of endorsements and influence, we are protected from a potential rogue regional officer or infiltration attempt.

Once you're registered for the World Assembly, you'll likely notice notifications stating that other people in the region are endorsing you. You can (and should!) endorse them back. At the bottom of their nation page (which you can find by clicking on their name), you'll notice the button shown in the picture to the right. Once you click it, you're done!

You're able to endorse as many nations as you want, and we actually have a tool, LinkTart.CalRef that allows you to do it! Just type in your nation name and the region name, and start endorsing!

Refugia Member States

Because having nations with World Assembly membership brings so many benefits to a region, several regions provide benefits and incentives to those players who are willing to join up with that region and move in that nation. Refugia is no different in this regard. By enrolling in the World Assembly and residing in the region for seven days, a nation can become a Member State. While any nation with residency in Refugia is welcome and a total part of the community, Member States are the voting citizens, the Refugi.

The most obvious benefit Member States get is the ability to vote on regional referenda and elections that are held at LinkVote.CalRef. They are able to submit referendums and run for regional elections, and by endorsing others are entered in the endotarting and delegate-endorsing challenges held in the region, where they can win cards or other prizes.

Perhaps the most fun part of being a Member State is the ability to apply for a spot on the regional map, which has been slowly filled out since its original introduction on November 25, 2019.

Footnote:
¹: Commendation to a nation/region for its positive international contribution to the growth and maturation of NationStates.
²: Condemnation of the nation/region that caused mass dystopias in the local or international population of NationStates. This does NOT involve breaking NS rules.
³: Procedure that prevents, in most cases, the conversion of a border into a fortress. It is an act of defense and is used together with Liberation.
⁴: A procedure that mostly occurs at the border with the aim of preventing the creation of a regional code in the region. It is an act of defense against the so-called invaders. The conjunction between injunction and liberation is also called Libjunction.

The endorsement and about our region
  1. Endorsement is a fundamental tool for the growth and survival of a frontier, given that it is the primary factor for the growth and maturation of a frontier. The nation in which he has the most endorsements is the one that becomes the WA Delegate.

    1. To endorse the delegate, you need to click on the nation, scroll down to the bottom, the Endorse [NATION] button will appear and click it!

    2. Endorsing the delegate increases our international influence and magnetism, which consequently increases our population and regional community!

  2. Bozarkia is a Frontier governed by a WA delegate. We were founded in September 3, 2023 by The Endorse Liverford of Bozarkia 2, initially as a fortress.

  3. On November 1st, our Frontier was declared injunctive in The Security Council, which means that until the resolution is revoked, the fortress process will not take place.
Our history is extensive and our overview is fascinating.

Comprehensive Guide on Joining the WA and Endorsing your Delegate

Why you should endorse the Delegate: Endorsing Tim Stark, our Delegate, is an easy way to support the Order. Endorsing our delegate increases our voting power in the World Assembly, which we uses to support proposed legislation and recognition important to us and the Warden community. Show your support by following this guide on endorsing!

Important notice: You are only allowed to have one nation in the World Assembly at a time, attempting to circumvent this rule by using multiple devices and emails is a surefire way to incur the wrath of site moderation and will likely lead to a blanket ban on all of your nations being allowed into the World Assembly.

1) Go to the settings page.

2) Make sure you have your email in the email field.

3) Click update if you didn't have an email already associated with your nation and needed to add one.

4) Go to the World Assembly page.

5) Click "Apply to Join"

6) If your application was successful this message will display. However, if you have another nation in the World Assembly already red warning text will display below the green one.

7) Go to your email and find the acceptance to your application. Click the link inside.

8) The link will take you to this page, click the confirm button to join the WA.

9) If everything went well you will receive the green message shown here. Now go back to your home region page by clicking its name on the sidebar.

10) At the top of the region page will be a link to your WA Delegate, click on it.

11) Now scroll to the bottom of the delegate's nation page and click the button that says "Endorse"

12) The page will refresh and you can scroll back down to the delegate's national happenings to see your endorsement.
