Frostland General Election Results 1910-present
19102015
2019-2020 (Federal Democratic Republic of Frostland)
General Elections were scheduled to be held on December 23, 2019. However, on December 20, President Terrence Biesdraal issued an executive order postponing the election to an undetermined date as part of his response to the emerging Coronavirus epidemic in Frostland. This postponement was controversial, as it was widely viewed as a unilateral action to keep the current government in power. Biesdraal had been polling at very low levels in the run-up to the expected election, as voters disapproved of the adoption of free-market capitalism and alleged claims of censorship against the far-left and the far-right. Widespread civil unrest ensued in the following days, eventually leading to the start of the Frostlandic Civil War.
As the civil situation intensified, the rump Congress of the Federal Democratic Republic authorized the substitution of the popular election with a nomination by national convention, with representatives chosen by subrepublican chapters of the governing National Unity Party. The convention took place from May 20, 2020 to July 15, 2020.
Terrence Biesdraal and Wërzi Brandeis (National Unity Party) were unanimously nominated in every subrepublic. They were sworn in for a second term on September 1, 2020.
No other candidates were fielded.
2020 (Frostland National Popular Commission)
As FDR Frostland President Terrence Biesdraal postponed the official general election, protestors called for a boycott of the eventual election, should it have taken place, and instead organized their own election by forming the Frostland National Popular Commission.
The legislative election was held on July 16, 2020. Many polling places were raided and ballot boxes burned by FDR forces in the run-up to and during the election.
