Defense of Life Act (2024): Introduced by North Sion Cosponsors: Stotavia, Nothern Fores, New-EriePURPOSE OF THE ACT:
The purpose of this act is to officially codify Covenant Shores' stance on the preservation of human life, and to guide government policy in accordance with that principle.
SECTION 1: DEFINITIONS AND AFFIRMATIONS:
1.1 Recognizing that there are more than forty million abortions per year, most of which are performed for non-necessary reasons.
1.2 Committed to the absolute safety and support of fathers, mothers, and their children, all nations of Covenant Shores are encouraged to establish welfare and other support programs for parents. Further, support likewise should be given to those individuals who have mental and/or physical disabilities.
1.3 Covenant Shores, in accordance with Biblical principles, hereby officially affirms the region's defense of human life in the womb from the moment of conception.
1.4 All nations are hereby encouraged to prohibit all induced abortions not for rape, incest, the mother's life and/or physical health, or for mental and/or physical disabilities of the infant in the womb.
SECTION 2: GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
2.1 In accordance with Covenant Shores' affirmation of life, neither the Secretary of State, nor any other government official, shall seek diplomatic relations or open an embassy with any region which explicitly endorses the anti-life position, or which explicitly advocates or defends abortion in cases where no rape, incest, infant mental and/or physical disability, or life and/or health of the mother is in jeopardy.
2.2 Neither the Director of Recruitment, nor any other government official, shall advertise, promote, or state in any capacity that Covenant Shores is a "pro-choice" region, or that we shall safeguard that position.
2.3 The Director of Recruitment and/or any other government official responsible for recruitment shall continue to list Covenant Shores as a region where the pro-life position shall be safeguarded.
2.4 The Secretary of State shall seek to establish formal diplomatic relations with other regions which defend the right to life, and shall open embassies with all such regions so long as they are in accordance with other regional embassy policies.
SECTION 3: ON CAPITAL PUNISHMENT:
3.1 Nothing in this act shall prohibit any nation of Covenant Shores from affirming or carrying out capital punishment against an adult which has been convicted of a crime.
3.2 No regional government official shall seek to outlaw the use of capital punishment in legitimate cases, where guilt has been clearly demonstrated, such as rape and/or murder.
SECTION 4: ON ASSISSTED SUICIDE:
4.1 While lamenting that despair and/or non-availability of medical services might result in an individual committing suicide, nothing in this act shall prohibit any nation of Covenant Shores from permitting physician-assisted suicide of an adult individual with a sound mind.
4.2 All nations of Covenant Shores are encouraged to establish welfare and other support programs for individuals suffering from suicidal thoughts; and to take other action to limit the causes and means of suicide.
4.3 Congress reserves the right to amend this act, or to pass new legislation, to prohibit physician-assisted suicide.
4.4 No government official shall advertise, promote, or state in any capacity that Covenant Shores supports or defends the practice of assisted suicide.
SECTION 5: DATE OF EFFECT:
5.1 This bill shall come into effect and be enforced immediately upon passage of Congress and the Lieutenant Governor's signature.
