Football in Anzaronesia

Football is the third most popular sport in Anzaronesia, behind cricket and volata. The national team first played in 1893. They are the lowest ranked team in Trinity Legion, but have recently made strides and are no longer near the bottom of the AFC rankings. They are ranked between Hilverton and Vrynabia. The national team are known as the Red and White Boars.

National Teams
The men’s national team has never qualified for the AFC Nations’ Cup, but barely missed out on qualifying for the 2024 edition, finishing fifth in the qualifying stage first round behind Frixtan on goal difference and missing the second round. From 1981 to 2015, they finished second bottom of the qualifying group only ahead of Hilverton. Their top goal scorer is Maurice Klingham with 25 goals between 2015 and 2024.

The women’s national team were runners-up in the TLFA Women’s Invitational Tournament in 2006, behind Kambistan but ahead of Ganzilistan and North Grenham. In the first fully sanctioned TLFA Women’s Cup in 2018 the Anzaronesians hosted, they finished bottom of Group 1 losing 3-0 to Kambistan and 2-1 to Scapete. They have never qualified for the AFC Women’s Nations’ Cup. Alice Goden is top scorer with six goals between 2005 and 2017.

The mixed national team has played a total of nineteen matches, the most recent being a 5-2 win against Yoshmarya in July 2020.
