Statement from the Council of Ministers of the USSR.

11 October 2024

Today, the Council of Ministers of the USSR announces that the All-Union Government will run a nationwide test of its emergency public warning systems on Wednesday October 16th, letting sirens wail, and interrupting television and radio broadcasts in a twice-yearly initiative amid the war in Haiti, and the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine; which now also involves other paramilitary groups throughout the Middle East.

At around 10.30 A.M. in most of the Soviet Union’s 11 time zones, sirens will sound for one minute, with loudspeakers broadcasting an “Attention, comrades!” call, the Council of Ministers has announced.

The exercise aims to check the warning systems, the readiness of those responsible for launching them, and to raise public awareness, the Government says, adding, “Comrades, please do not panic - everything is going according to a plan.”

The frequency of rehearsals is doubled from last year, following the first such event held in 2020.
