Opiachus announces devolution of World Assembly membership
Today, the Government of Opiachus announced the diplomatic accreditation of Opiachus WA Mission, henceforth the official Mission of the Government to the World Assembly. The Government's WA member status will be held in proxy by the Mission, which will assume the rights and duties of WA membership on the Government's behalf. The Mission's mandate is indefinite but revocable at the Government's pleasure should the Government find it advantageous to return to direct membership in the World Assembly. The divestment of the rights and duties of WA membership will allow the Government to reverse the negative economic consequences of several recent General Assembly resolutions which have greatly reduced the national employment rate and economic freedom indices as measured by the World Census, while simultaneously ensuring the national interest and perspective remains represented in international affairs. By preserving an indirect degree of participation in the World Assembly while avoiding direct exposure to the General Assembly's concerning trend of recently proposed anti-economic policies, the Government hopes to remain a pro-jobs, pro-market, pro-trade voice in a General Assembly that is increasingly lacking in consideration of the effects of policy proposals on member state economies and industries. The Government is proud to have been such a pro-economic voice in its long history of World Assembly membership, including having been the regional delegate of Outer Space and the author of GA 135, and regrets that the economically masochistic direction of the General Assembly has made the continuance of direct WA membership no longer justifiable. |
