Election Central: The 328 Elections ALA [Archive]
Preface:The election for the 39th Aurevbushan Presidential Elections commences in Kekasmy 328 ALA.
Voters in each state and the AMD will elect their president for a term of four years, in two separate rounds. If no candidate wins at least 50.1% of the first round, a second round with two parties receiving the most votes, is held two weeks later. The Incumbent President Len Zorra has served 3 terms, totalling up to the maximum presidential tenure of 12 years, meaning he is not eligible to run or serve a fourth term.
The record for President Zorra shows to be a fairly mixed to positive ordeal overall, with an average approval rating of 60.4% across all his terms in office. Zorra's first term started out with measured reforms for economic recovery via cutting taxes on the poor and middle class, rolling back arduous regulation, and cutting back on spending on programs and initiatives considered "wasteful". Zorra's government also took this opportunity to combat the creeping urban crime and terrorist threats by creating a new federal law enforcement agency, Office of National Operations and Security Enforcement (ONOSE). This has been a break from Zorra's more fiscally conservative agenda considering how much money went into pushing forth this initative through the Senate Budget Committee and actually setting up ONOSE as a substaintial police force. The lowering unemployment and the rises in the standard of living landed Zorra another term in office, where a bulk of his time was spent tightening immigration laws and renegotiating trade deals with allied trading partners. But Zorra's finest hour came in 324 ALA when the planet faced an unprecedented threat, an asteroid of alien origin dubbed "Kali" was detected on a direct collision course for Aramnah. Zorra played part in global cooperation to activate the Space Hedge of Protection Initiative, a planetary defense network established years prior and made operational by then. With the asteroid blown up, and an extinction level crisis averted, Zorra's image as a determined and resolute executive has been solidified, and gave way to his third term in office the following year. But his heroism did not last well into the next term come his alleged complicity in several cases of embezzlement with select senators and former First Consul Elijah Manx (and disorderly conduct with the staffers). And the affairs of ONOSE did not come without its problems, with several cases being done aleging abuse of power and lack of transparency. A growing populist movement stemming from the liberal-left emerged arguing the economic recovery had left many behind and that Zorra's policies for national security has gone in contrasts to the civil liberties enshirned in the Constitution (right to privacy, due process, freedom of assembly). As the campaign season gains momentum, a recent and unprecedented cyberattack on the nation's critical infrastructure has raised significant doubts about the government's national security policy. Investigations on the matter are in progress.
