Speech by Uprea

Greetings fellow members of TWI,

with this speech I want to formally and officially announce myself running for the position Secretary of Information.
I have been in this region for about 1 and a half years now and also spent about the same time (except for a few days in the beginning) on the map consistently. As some of you may already know, I have also been part of the Government for about a year now too, handing out the "Nation of the Month"- Award for the Office of Roleplay. As much fun as it was, creating the award and motivating new nations to strive for something through activity in TWI, I have had the feeling these past couple of months that it is time for me to look for a new challenge. I believe the Office of Information is the perfect project for that.

The Office of Information has been due for a remodeling for a long time and while my potential predecessor Baumes has been doing a good job in continuing the work of legendary former Secretary Nhoor, the activity from the Office of Information has not exceeded weekly posts of what dispatches have been released in TWI. Information, that can be viewed by anyone by simply navigating through the Activity Page of the Region without ever looking at the Office´s dispatch post. This does not only cause many to label the job of Secretary of Information as rather dull and boring, but the Office´s activity has also looked its part from the outside.

This is what I mean to change by restructuring the Office. I do not want to leave out the part that weekly post of dispatch activity just simply aren´t possible for me to do because I am in preparations for what in the US would be called "taking the bar exam", which basically keeps me busy like a full-time job. Instead I want to ramp up the quality of the Office´s posts and move away from the, in my point of view, rather pointless weekly dispatch activity.
With me as new Secretary, the Office of Information will move more towards representing in-character information, working closely together with the Office of Roleplay, focusing on giving short overviews on the topic of discussion of each roleplay and the status they are in, perhaps in form of a regularly updated dispatch. In a way it would be a more detailed version of the existing RP Directory, which is currently run by Ainslie and not by any Office. Of course, OOC activity shall not be entirely neglected, but rather displayed in longer reports highlighting three-four months.
Already with these two new posts, I believe the Office will have gained a much more purposeful role in the Government and become a useful tool for nations to use in order to get information they really need.
I also do have further ideas in my head but I haven´t had the time to really think about them yet.

As you can see, the Office will not be the same with me as new Secretary. It will have a new identity, leaning more towards displaying information regarding the driving force in TWI, the Roleplay. Reports on the OOC stats and happenings will further provide a OOC perspective and be a way of providing statistical data over a longer period of time and just generally orientate itself more on the 2022 year report that was written by Nhoor. Rather pointless weekly dispatch reports will be a thing of the past. Of course, should Esterazdravo decide to stay on board, I am sure I can find him a new position in the Office to work with to revamp its look.

Thank you for considering me for the position,

- Rea

Hi Ainslie. Below is my speech for the Secretary of Information election.

Gday, fellow Western Islanders. For anyone who doesn’t know me, I am Biaten. I am a nation that originally joined in September 2020. Outside of our Roleplay, I am a university student currently studying mathematics, as well as a politics enthusiast. Outside of the Western Isles, I have participated in numerous political roleplays, which eventually led me to The Western Isles. The Western Isles has felt like a home to me, and not just on NationStates.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I stand…er…type before you today to ask you to elect me as your next Secretary of Information. This role carries immense responsibility in keeping the members of these region informed through effective communication, transparency, and efficient record-keeping. As the Secretary of Information, I will continue in the footsteps of my predecessors, Baumes and Nhoor, by providing you, the good people of this region, with Weekly Happenings, Monthly Reports and up-to-date Record Keeping. Furthermore, I will also work with our other regional officers to improve the office and its portfolio, potentially expanding include information about the Roleplay as well as the OOC information.

I understand the importance of comprehensive record-keeping. The Office of Information plays a pivotal role in preserving the history of the Western Isles, and I intend wholeheartedly to preserve our records for future generations.
