SUMMARY

ČEBELA
AERONAUTICS

est. 1946 [🜇]

The Čebela Firewasp (1950).

Čebela ("honeybee") is a majority state-owned aircraft manufacturer
founded in January 1946 to fulfill the needs of the Slovenian Air
Fleet. It was given the designs and several models of the relatively
modern inventory of the Royal Yugoslav Air Force—upon independence,
Slovenia had inherited almost one hundred planes from its parent state.
An early partnership with Boeing's design department helped foster an
indigenous design team.

POTOČNIK
ROCKETRY

est. 1947 [🜇]

A welder at Potočnik.

Building on the legacy of Slovene electrical engineer and space visionary
Herman Potočnik, the logo of rocketry firm Potočnik evokes the wheel-like
space station design Potočnik felt could be the future of human space
habitation. In close cooperation with Pregelj, Potočnik—founded in 1947
has helped Slovenia keep a technological edge and has contributed to the
country's culture of sharp scholarship.

RUSJAN
AERONAUTICS

est. 1911 [🜇]

The Rusjan Puščica trainer (1955).

Rusjan is a Gorica-based civilian aircraft manufacturer. It was founded
by the brothers Edvard and Josip Rusjan after Edvard retired from flight
performances following a grave wound in a January 1911 plane crash.
The brothers pioneered designs for private civilian planes in the interwar
period; Edvard retired at age 65 after the company successfully debuted
its first passenger plane
in 1951.

UČKA
ROTORCRAFT

est. 1947 [🜇]

The Učka Galeb (1950).

Named for the eastern Istrian mountain range, Učka is Slovenia's first
helicopter venture. The company was founded in 1947 and commenced
operations under chief designer Anton Grilc soon after. In 1950, tests
of the Učka Galeb
yielded Slovenia's first domestically designed and
built helicopter.
