The purge of aristocrats

On the 17th June 1775, Prime Minister Goo Jong Young, Chief State Councillor Yang Bok Gong, Third State Councillor Choo Bin Yun, Minister of War Yum Beh Lo, Minister of Taxation You He Lee and Minister of Personnel Tay Bun along with Prince Goh Si Chu attempted to assassinate the Crown Prince and King on the day they left for the Ancestral Shrine at mount Yuing. 200 Palace Guards, 65 King's guards, 25 Crown Prince guards, the 4 princes and Heads of the Ministries of the Goh Dynasty left the Royal Palace. However, Prince Si Chu and his followers had over 400 Private Guards ready to ambush the Royal Convoy.

During the trip to the Shrine, Commander Hun Lee, Head of the Palace Guard noticed something suspicious and informed the King. King Goh Luh Heh, the 21st King of the Goh Dynasty agreed that there was something suspicious and immediately activated 1000 Capital Guards to their location. At this time, the Ministers and Prince Goh Si Chu were not aware of it and continued their ride. An hour later, the Capital Guards arrived and the Ministers and the Prince panicked as their soldiers were very close to their convoy and were completely outnumbered. Minister Yum Beh Lo in an attempt to warn the soldiers were caught by the Crown Prince and he told him everything. The Crown Prince immediately rushed to the Commander and informed him to hold defensive formations around the convoy. 3 minutes later, the soldiers attacked the convoy but were ambushed by the Capital Guards and were quickly wiped out and the remaining soldiers admitted to everything and named their masters. The Prime Minister, Chief State Councillor, Third State Councillor, Minister of War, Taxation, Personnel and Prince Goh Si Chu were later executed. After that day, King Goh Luh Heh became very paranoid about the people around him.

On the 15th December 1775, the last straw came as 15 Government Officials were caught killing Military Officials and soldiers to cover up their dirty doings.

A week later, on the 22nd December 1775, the Royal Command came in during the Royal Court and was read out loud by the Chief Royal Secretary. Upon finishing reading out the Command, Deputy Commander Hui Shu of the Palace Guards along with 10 unknown soldiers suddenly entered the Main Hall where the meeting was held and 35 soldiers behind him were killing the King's Guard outside the Hall. The doors behind him soon closed and the Minister of Justice Ho Loong walked in and ordered the King to step down from the Throne. According to records from the Royal Secretaries, 100 unknown masked soldiers entered the hall and killed the rebel soldiers. Minister Ho Loong and Deputy Commander Hui Shu escaped the Palace but was caught trying to leave the Capital 8 days later. To this day, historians still do not know who the masked men were but they believe that it was men sent by the former Chief of Defence Force, General Albert Yong as he was fired after informing the King of the impending rebellion.

Minister Heng Loong and Deputy Commander Hui Shu were executed and the King, out of paranoia, ordered the execution of over 4000 Government officials around the country. People called this the purge of aristocrats and a total of 6000 Government and Military officials along with officers and soldiers lost their lives because of this.

King Goh Luh Heh's actions were justified, but many saw it as treacherous and this caused the Yue Min Rebellion which was led by Former Vice-Minister of Personnel and deposed Prince Goh Yue Min.

The Rebellion cost the lives of another 800'000 people including King Luh Heh [65], Crown Prince Juni Luh [38] and Queen Mheng Huo [55].
King Yue Min became the 22nd King of the Goh Dynasty.
