The Gardener's Gazette, edition 21

The Gardener's Gazette

Welcome to the twenty-first edition of the The Gardener Gazette! The Gazette is released monthly and keeps gardeners and guests alike informed on the happenings within the Card Gardening Society.

Garden Insight
by Giovanniland

As you might already know, the Garden Insight article reports interesting happenings in the Gardens during the month before the one our edition is actually published in. This time I write about February 2022, a quieter month than January overall but still fairly active. The highlight of the early month was, obviously, the Collection Bracket, whose voting started in January 28th but extended until February 7th. Seven members submitted collections—Panagouge, Indusse, The United Peoples of Centrism, Economichunger, Vylixan, and The unified missourtama states (TUMS)—and popular vote decided which collection would win. In the end, the podium was composed by Vylixan, Panagouge and TUMS in the first, second, and third place respectively.

The three nations then received valuable legendary cards and Gardeners celebrated a very successful contest, about which you can read about in detail in the 20th Gazette, published in the second week of the month. Soon after, the overall cards community saw the 2022 Cards Symposium happen, with several card-themed events, competitions and speeches happening. Notably, all four Panelists were Gardeners, as were four of six Speakers, including myself that participated on both. Each of these people gave insightful talks on interesting themes, such as card collections, history and the community. Furthermore, in the second edition of the Card Awards, the Gardens are among several organizations being considered for Indescribably and Irrevocably Irresistible, whereas this very Gazette is one of two options for Card Publication of the Year—voting has ended already, and winners will be announced soon!

Later in the month, both cards and non-cards topics were discussed in the Greenhouse, such as a discussion on books and reading habits, and another on disabling recruitment telegrams on card farms. A Card Question of the Week near the end of the month about what new article ideas would Gardeners like to see in the Gazette also raised interesting discussion, with Economichunger suggesting an advice column. I remain open to more of these ideas in order to diversify the Gazette, and am glad to announce that Economichunger's idea has been accepted and will appear soon! Furthermore, channels such as the Farmers' Market and Garden Displays continued active, with several Gardeners such as Vylixan, Seanat, Neim, and Furballland posting their own collections on the latter, some of which will also be featured in another edition of the Garden Spotlight published every four months.

Last but not least, it is a tradition to mention in this Garden Insight the names of new members that joined the Gardens recently! February had less members joining than in January, but it's nevertheless nice to see new Gardens, so a warm welcome to Giraffeton that joined this month! Stay tuned for the next edition of this summary.

Winners of the Month
by Giovanniland

In February, which is naturally a smaller month, we had twelve giveaways! However, that doesn't mean many valuable cards weren't awarded—the 2/2/22 giveaway featured Season 2 Noahs Second Country in honor to former Gardens moderator Noah, and the last giveaway of the month saw the valuable Season 2 Reploid Productions card in the giveaway. In sharp contrast to January, in which no members won more than once, February saw the first time in history where a Gardener had insane luck to win three times in a month, namely Mediobogdum. Aerilia and Neim also won two giveaways each, whereas the other five giveaways were shared by five different Gardeners you can see here:

Monthly Contest Results and Update
by Giovanniland

February saw a Valentine's Day Collection Contest happen, as the Gazette was published a few days before that day. We had one entry by Racoda, a creatively empty collection. Well, don't worry there Racoda, I can relate to your feelings. It did make me laugh though, so I've decided to gift a Season 2 Corfad.

Anyways, following this contest, I've decided to bring back our bracket competitions! With a twist, however. Thanks to another idea by Marxmeans, we'll have a Card Bracket this time around! It will work in a similar way to the Collection Bracket—Gardeners will have a two-week submission period to link me two cards, one for Season 1 and one for Season 2, that they own either in their main nation or a puppet. They should then submit its link to Giovanniland by Discord DM or NationStates telegram until 23:59 UTC of March 27th, with an additional short explanation of the card choices if they desire, although this is not mandatory.

After that, pairs of cards will compete through popular vote, the number of rounds of course depending on how many submissions there are. There will also be separate brackets for each season, so there may be different winners for each. The winner will receive a Legendary card, though additional rewards may be sent out depending on the number of entrants. So think about what cards you have that could potentially win this tournament, and let me know once you've decided. Choose your cards wisely, and have fun!

Second Anniversary: a Sneak Peek
by Giovanniland

We're approaching our second anniversary! The Card Gardening Society was officially founded by The unified missourtama states on the day of April 7th of 2020. This means that our cards organization will turn two years old in less than one month! Of course, we'll have several special celebrations, including a special Gazette edition scheduled to be published on the anniversary day. It will include a special monthly contest, the fourth edition of the Community Contribution Awards, and also the results of the Gardener of the Year award.

That's right, the Gardener of the Year award is making a comeback! For the newer Gardeners, this is a yearly honor given to special members of our community and decided by popular nominations. Each member of the Society can pick another member to receive this award except themselves and the administrators, and the nominations must be sent to Giovanniland via Discord DM or a telegram until 23:59 UTC of 6th April. The required information is your nomination's member nation in the Gardens, and optionally a few sentences on why you think your choice should be the Gardener of the Year. After the deadline ends, the person with the most nominations will earn this coveted award.

See you all next month for another Gardener's Gazette edition. Credits to Giovanniland for leading the newspaper publication and writing the articles! If you want to contribute to the Society, apply to join the Sub-Administrative Committee, or donate cards to EpLeHo! Feel free to ping @administration on our Discord server for more details.
