Resolution at vote: Prohibition of Unwarranted Digital Surveillance
Forum voting thread: https://forums.europeians.com/index.php?threads/ga-prohibition-of-unwarranted-digital-surveillance.10056558/
Vote recommendation: FOR
As stated perfectly in the preamble of the resolution, warrantless digital surveillance has repeatedly shown to be ineffective at preventing terrorism and other illegal activities and is conducted at the cost of a person or people's right to privacy and at a huge monetary cost to the state. In addition, the data collected from this mass unwarranted digital surveillance could fall into wrong hands, and as a result, could put lives at risk because private information was compromised. Through outlawing it, many of these dangers could be averted and the state could use its resources on more effective tactics instead, increasing its chances of being able to protect the safety, lives and properties of its citizens.
The Ministry praises the author's decision to restrict member states from employing the services of private entities or foreign governments to conduct an unwarranted digital surveillance program, closing a possible loophole, which could have been exploited by the government of member states to continue/conduct such programs. The resolution has made exceptions only if unwarranted digital surveillance is necessary to prevent serious injury or death or if conducting digital surveillance on foreign entities is in the interest of national security. The resolution also outlaws digital surveillance on anyone on basis of their "religion, sexuality, race, nationality, gender identity and other arbitrary reductive" categorisation.
The Ministry of World Assembly Affairs agrees with the purpose of the resolution and is especially pleased that it was authored by a Europeian. It is convinced that that the resolution's writing is of a high standard, achieving its objectives and purpose concisely, without any significant loopholes. Thus, the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs recommends a vote FOR this resolution.
