Anti-Government Protesters in Medovia storm Parliament

A huge anti-Government protest demanding the resignation of current center-left Prime Minister, Simon Pagosov, exploded yesterday as hundreds of thousands of protesters filled the streets. The protests brought the much of the city center into lockdown. Government sources detail that Pagosov had ordered a state of emergency just as it became known that protesters are aiming to storm Parliament. It is not known if the law enforcement and military have accepted Pagosov’s decree for a state of emergency.

Outside Parliament scuffles began between police and protesters as police had blocked the entranceways to the Parliament building. Several protesters and policemen were injured during the scuffles, several hundred arrested, however, as the pressure from the protesters grew, the police could not defend the building anymore. Military jets were also roaring above, which some interpret as a sign of support to the anti-government protesters. As the police could not defend the Parliament anymore, the protesters were able to gain access and stormed the building, ransacking the offices of the ruling party. PM Pagosov was nowhere to be found in the building and his whereabouts are currently unknown. Some inside sources suggest he is hiding in a government bunker.

As the protesters took hold of the Parliament, Gregor Genoves declared that “Pagosov’s regime has come to an end” and that he fully expected several members from the ruling coalition to defect and vote in a motion of no-confidence in order to legally dissolve Parliament and thus oust Pagosov, after which snap Parliamentary election will be held. It is also being reported that President Samel Gorgevem, whose duties are mainly ceremonial, is preparing to resign.
